Firing from position as Secretary of Homeland Security
Prepare for furious editing...
From Trump's post on Truth Social: I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), effective March 31, 2026. The current Secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us well, and has had numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!), will be moving to be Special Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, our new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere we are announcing on Saturday in Doral, Florida. I thank Kristi for her service at “Homeland.”
Should the language change to "was" for her position as DHS head or should this wait until March 31?

- No, it’s been said that she will stay on until the end of the month. ~2026-14306-02 (talk) 19:23, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- She is outgoing not gone
- the other guy is a nominee not confirmed yet
- so until the formalities are complete she is still nominee for that new position and the outgoing secretary
- Update the article as accordingly it’s is woefully inaccurate. I dont like cricket I love it (talk) 19:56, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- It does not appear to matter whether the other guy is confirmed or not; according to at least one source, a nomination is enough. Mátyás Rákosi (talk) 23:58, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- That’s nice but there is no evidence she has actually left the role as of now and if she has then who is acting secretary as the law does not allow for a vacancy, there is a mechanism in law always for an acting secretary. I dont like cricket I love it (talk) 01:29, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Up to the end of March
Many sources claim that she will continue to act as a secretary till 31th of March. So I don't think it is correct to say her term is already finished. DonDragonWilson99 (talk) 19:53, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Yes she is outgoing, not gone, she is nominee for the new position, hasn’t taken up the new position.
- the other guy is a nominee not confirmed yet.
- The formalities need to be gone through before all this jumping to the end point is done. I dont like cricket I love it (talk) 19:58, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Termination and status.
I don’t think Noem remains in place, I believe DHS is under an interim leadership structure until Mullin’s confirmation, and Noem’s tenure ended on March 5th. Someone may want to check that out. ~2026-11678-00 (talk) 06:34, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Kristi Noem is no longer the Secretary of Department of Homeland Security. Donald Trump fired her. So, it shouldn't say "incumbent" because that would imply that she's still in that position when she's not. ~2026-15224-84 (talk) 06:19, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Not done: I thought that president Donald Trump's nominee needed to be confirmed by the Senate first and I haven't seen news of that happening yet. To correct you: the infobox currently says "outgoing" rather than "incumbent" and clearly lists her next position as "designate", I think that makes it quite clear that she is not permanently serving in the role anymore. Qwerty123M (talk) 06:24, 10 March 2026 (UTC)- Also to note the very last sentence in the lead section states:"Noem is set to leave her position on March 31". So Qwerty123M's logic looks sound. Disruption
Bias in regard to the senator being handcuffed. Important to note he was being disruptive ~2026-17733-03 (talk) 16:03, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

You have the wrong date for her assuming the position she just vacated. You have her date left as date assumed the role. EFNF (talk) 19:51, 27 March 2026 (UTC)
Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Prolabelmaker (talk) 00:44, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
