Redirect Page
This was formerly a redirect page leading to Kristyn's husbands page with information. I deleted that redirect, so that people were not automatically moved to her husband's page. If I did this in error please correct this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonahman10 (talk • contribs) 22:56, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- Hey, I made a new article, and therefore I put the redirect back onto this page. If Kristyn Getty is notable enough to get her own article outside of Keith & Kristyn Getty, then feel free to remove the redirect and improve this article. Awsomaw (talk) 02:30, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Tacyarg and Onel5969, I was wondering if you noticed that Lnel247 removed the redirect on this page. Is Kristyn Getty notable enough to deserve her own page instead of linking it to Keith & Kristyn Getty? In addition, I've reverted the changes on the Keith & Kristyn Getty page. I don't have time to sort through the good and the bad of that edit, but if you want to tackle that, feel free. It seems to me like there is more unhelpful information than productive encyclopedic information that was added. Awsomaw (talk) 01:24, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
External links
I have removed the external links which were against some of the recordings linking to sites where they can be bought. They seem clearly against WP:ELNO. If others disagree, please discuss here. Tacyarg (talk) 00:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- You have been reverted, I don't feel you understand promotionalism. Summerdays1 (talk) 09:15, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
John Lennox Uncle
Kristyn's uncle seems to be John Lennox, as mentioned on her husband's wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Getty. I think this is an important information to add, as John Lennox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennox is quite a big figure in apologetics in Christianity, and he is a somewhat well known scholar in other disciplines. Also, on John Lennox wiki page this information is also mentioned. 84.79.242.251 (talk) 20:45, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
Edit Request
![]() | The user below has a request that a significant addition or re-write be made to this article for which that user has an actual or apparent conflict of interest. The backlog is very high. Please be extremely patient. There are currently 400 requests waiting for review. Please read the instructions for the parameters used by this template for accepting and declining them, and review the request below and make the edit if it is well sourced, neutral, and follows other Wikipedia guidelines and policies. |
- COI note:
I am not sure if I have a COI. (I'm not being paid to edit this page but have a personal relationship with the subject of the page.) I've tried to remain neutral and well-sourced, but wanted to suggest changes here rather than make them directly out of an abundance of caution.
- What I think should be changed (include citations):
See below for the recommended new draft of the page. I have included brief notes at the beginning of each section (in brackets) to provide additional context.
I'm new to editing wikipedia so please let me know if there's a better way to propose such significant changes for review.
- Why it should be changed:
I believe this page could use signficant revisions to accurately reflect the subject's prominence and accomplishments, including to note awards and other recognition, and to accurately depict her discography and bibliography.
Introduction
[I recommend replacing the existing Introduction with the below, which includes a more comprehensive summary of Getty's reach and influence.]
Kristyn Elizabeth Rebekah Getty (née Lennox, born 22 May 1980) is a GRAMMY-nominated Northern Irish artist, hymnwriter, author and co-founder of Getty Music organization and foundation.
Career
[I would suggest replacing the existing Career section with the below. This revision primarily adds new content, with the listing of Children's Albums in the existing page now reflected in the Discography section.]
Getty has headlined shows at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, the Grand Ole Opry, and Ryman Auditorium.[1][2] Hymns she has written and recorded are sung an estimated 100 million times per year.[3]
Together, the Gettys founded the annual Sing! Conference in their adopted hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, and co-edited The Sing! Hymnal, published by Crossway in 2025. In 2020, Kristyn recorded the entire English Standard Version (ESV) Bible for Crossway.
Collaborations
[I would suggest adding a collaborations section as below. I wasn't sure of the best way to provide sources for all of these, but they are widely available online.]
Getty has recorded collaborations with artists across numerous genres, including country artists Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs and Vince Gill; gospel artist Heather Headley, South African a capella chorus Ladysmith Black Mambazo, rapper Trip Lee, Contemporary Christian artist Chris Tomlin, and Celtic legend Moya Brennan.
Recognition
[I would suggest revising the Recognition section to include the below. This incorporates content already on the live page with new, neutral, sourced information. In some cases, I've suggested revisions to existing content to remove unsourced or inaccurate claims, or to provide better sources.]
Christianity Today has described Getty as one of the world’s “preeminent” hymn writers and credits her and her husband, Keith Getty, with having “changed the way evangelicals worship.”[4][5]
Getty’s album Confessio–Irish American Roots was nominated for a 2022 GRAMMY Award in the Best Roots Gospel Album category.[6]
Her album Evensong – Hymns and Lullabies at the Close of Day, which features the Gettys’ four daughters and collaborators from country, bluegrass, and contemporary Christian genres, reached #1 on Billboard’s mainstream Kids Album chart in November 2000, displacing Disney’s Frozen II soundtrack for the first time in 36 weeks.[7]
She has won two GMA Dove Awards: 2019 Inspirational Album of the Year for The North Coast Sessions and 2022 Children’s Album of the Year for Getty Kids Hymnal: Hymns from Home.[8][9]
Her book Sing! How Worship Transforms Your Life, Family, and Church was a finalist in the Ministry Resources and New Author categories for the 2018 Christian Book Awards.[10]
She was named a Fellow at the Royal School of Church Music in 2019, and was bestowed a 2025 “She Leads UK” award at Windsor Castle recognizing contributions to positive advancement of Christianity in Britain, and was named an International Woman of the Year by She Leads Tennessee in 2025.[11][12][13]
In 2017, the Gettys performed for then-US Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence at the vice president's residence, which is on the grounds of the Naval Observatory.[14] They have performed for George W. Bush, the United Nations, former South Korean president Lee Myung-Bak, and former UK prime minister Theresa May.[15]
According to CCLI, "In Christ Alone" ranks as the No.1 most-sung song in UK churches.[16] Written by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty in 2001, the song is the second most popular hymn in the UK according to a survey conducted by the BBC's Songs of Praise programme.[17]
Getty’s two sold-out shows at Belfast SSE Arena in December 2024 were the highest-selling Christian music event in the history of Northern Ireland, the highest-selling carol service in the history of Northern Ireland, and only the second two-night sellout of SSE Arena by a Northern Irish artist after Snow Patrol.[18]
