Reverted content re: Mullin’s defence of Trump’s Reiner murder remarks
In response to @PerpetuityGrat reverting my new edit.
For raising the question of, I agree entirely that Wikipedia is not a catalogue of every remark an article subject has ever made (WP:NOTEVERYTHING). My intention here was not to document a stray comment, but to summarize a widely reported, nationally covered controversy in which Senator Mullin publicly defended remarks by a President Trump that themselves generated wide bipartisan condemnation. To my knowledge, Senator Mullin is alone in being the only Senator to defend President Trump’s controversial remarks.
This episode is notable for several reasons that go beyond a routine statement:
It involved the violent murder of a prominent public figure and his spouse, making the underlying event inherently significant.
The remarks by Donald Trump were covered extensively by mainstream national outlets, indicating broad public and political impact.
Senator Mullin’s defence of those remarks was specifically reported and quoted in secondary sources, and places him on record aligning himself with a highly controversial response to a tragedy.
Comparable controversies and public defenses of Trump’s conduct are already routinely summarized in the biographies of sitting U.S. senators when they attract national attention.
In that context, the material was added not to exhaustively list Mullin’s commentary, but to document a politically and reputationally salient incident that received sustained coverage and illustrates his public positioning. That aligns with standard biographical practice and WP:DUE.
In summary, I respectfully disagree that this is an example of WP:NOTEVERYTHING, as it reflects a discrete, well-sourced controversy rather than an incidental remark.
Happy to discuss further or work toward consensus on wording.

- You understand that of the three paragraphs you added, only one even mentions Mullin? Okay so he defended Trump's comments... that's all the one paragraph said. This is not significant and you can disagree, that's totally fine, but this is a classic case of WP:VNOT. Is there a more relevant connection to Mullin other than he just defended him? If not, why are we including this? --PerpetuityGrat (talk) 03:45, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
Markwayne Mullin named as DHS Secretary
On 3/05/2025 Markwayne Mullin is said to be the replacement by President Trump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYhr53-pTTc ~2026-14273-83 (talk) 18:58, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Added 2 links with reliable information to support this.

- This is false. Trump can’t replace Noem, he can only nominate a replacement. ~2026-14484-52 (talk) 16:00, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
- The article now says he was nominated for this position. —MiguelMunoz (talk) 20:02, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Link to MMA Regulation legislation
In the Political positions -> Regulation of mixed martial arts section, the final reference (Former Fighter Hints At Possible Senate Reintroduction Of The Ali Expansion Act) uses a broken link. It referenced a missing page at www.mmanews.com. I googled the title and found that exact headline at a www.musclechemistry.com, with the same date, which supports the referenced sentence. It looks like the article was moved to musclechemistry.com. I'm changing the reference to the new link. MiguelMunoz (talk) 19:53, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
I've chosen to semi-protect this talk page temporarily
The news cycle will provide lots of detail about this subject in the next days and weeks. Today I've chosen to briefly semi-protect this talk page, based on the last 48 hours' activity. The subject talk page is an important place on Wikipedia where we shouldn't normally restrict free speech, so long as the speech directly involves improving this BLP subject's pagespace. I urge each contributor to keep the five pillars in mind when contributing about this subject, including on this talk page. BusterD (talk) 20:11, 6 March 2026 (UTC)
31 March
See this Politico article stating that Mullin will assume the role of secretary of homeland security "effective March 31." Should this replace "TBD" in the infobox or not? aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 08:06, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
Rand Paul
Should Mullins beef with Rand Paul and his "understanding" of the neighbor who attacked Paul be included here? It was a notable part of his confirmation hearing. — jonas (talk) 12:30, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
