Chambers says that Russia's hybrid threat doctrine is known as "New Generation Warfare" or the "Gerasimov Doctrine"
Fedyk relies on Berzin's assessments, which, according to him, are based on "recent Russian actions in Ukraine, as well as speeches and writings of Russian leaders translated into English, most notably that of Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov"
In his work, Berzin cites two Russian sources: one by Gerasimov and another by Chekinov and Bogdanov from 2013.
Other authors, Karber and Suchkov, refer to some unnamed writers.
The linked article in Russian Wikipedia provides 15 references; only two of them are in Russian, by Gerasimov and a news article that overviews American work titled "The Russian New Generation Warfare". Kelob2678 (talk) 12:50, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- An article on the Gerasimov doctrine claims that the GD underlies the concept of NGW, citing two sources. However, one of them is Chambers, who doesn't distinguish between the two. The other source, a 2020 paper by Berzins, claims the GD represents "Gerasimov’s views about American contemporary ways of warfare" and that NGW is "a result of [the Russians'] own understanding and interpretation of Western military strategy." This doesn't support the idea that the GD and NGW are substantially different. Kelob2678 (talk) 13:56, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Berzins here. Not exactly. In the paper you're citing, already in the abstract I say that "The Russians have their own framework that, although influenced by Western military doctrine, is the result of their
- own theoretical developments." That should be enough to make the point they are different. However, there's another problem. Galeotti coined the term first but later retread in an article entitled "I’m Sorry for Creating the ‘Gerasimov Doctrine" That's why Kofman says that Gerasimov is a man without a doctrine. My point is that: 1. the two articles shouldn't be merged. 2. The article about Gerasimov Doctrine should focus on how it's a hoax. 3. Hybrid Warfare is a Western concept. The Russian term Gibrydnaya Voyna is indeed about Western Color Revolutions and appeared first in the Russian military literature in Voyennaya Misl in 2016, I forgot the name of the author, might be Marueev, but I really don't rememebr. Keep the good work! All the best, Janis Berzins Betulus (talk) 19:06, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
