Not landlocked
Paraguay might not have a coastline and on a map might look as if it is surrounded by land, but it is not locked away from the sea by land. This means the lead section is wrong by describing the country as landlocked. Roger 8 Roger (talk) 22:49, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Roger 8 Roger, this is a matter of the definition you're using for landlocked. Bolivia also has access to the Paraguay River - is it also not landlocked? Wiktionary defines landlocked as having no borders with the sea. Coeusin (talk) 02:05, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm not sure if there is a geographical definition but my initial view is that if you have a port for ocean going ships you cannot be landlocked. (Not a country, but is London 'landlocked', for example?) However, if that access is dependent on another country granting access though its territory by way of a treaty then the matter is less clear. Roger 8 Roger (talk) 21:18, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
