User:Newmantra, what exactly is the problem you think File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg has? We don't require permission of people for their images to be used on Wikipedia. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:46, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
I see you've uploaded another image. It seems fine, but please correct the image caption, since the image is clearly not from 2012. Please also understand that you're claiming that you were in Sydney and took the photo yourself. If another person is the author and granted permission to publish it, this must be declared on the image description page. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:53, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Newmantra, okay, I see that you attempted to start a deletion request at commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File talk:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg. However, the request was malformed and will have no effect unless the image page is tagged with the correct template. I'd point out, though, that your claimed reason, "This image is taken from the clip recorded by Prachatai without permission from Prachatai," is incorrect, as Prachatai has licensed the YouTube video under a Creative Commons licence, which means they already granted permission. I suggesting deleting the malformed request page. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:56, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- Note: commons:COM:PEOPLE does exist, and is a complex topic, but this needs to be discussed on Wikimedia Commons if it's allegedly an issue here. I have a feeling the proposed replacement by Newmantra may be more problematic in this regard. Knowingly giving a TV interview seems to have a much stronger implied consent for publication than giving a lecture indoors to a limited audience. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:58, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Paul_012 What is wrong with the photo I replaced? I deleted the previous photo for 2 reasons 1) I doubt the copyright of the image as it was taken from a vdo clip and 2) the photo is old. I owned the image to replace as I was in the room and took the photo myself. Newmantra (talk) 23:31, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't have a problem with Newmantra's replacement. Judging from the above-linked deletion request, it seems Newmantra was rather referring to permission from Prachatai (a misunderstanding given the YouTube CC licence) rather than the photograph subject. I don't think lecture hall would be considered a private place per commons:COM:PEOPLE, so I would agree with using the more recent image, unless ToBeFree or someone else objects. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:38, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- That's fine, Paul_012 ~ ToBeFree (talk) 05:45, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

- @Newmantra You kept insisting that you actually own the image that you intended to use on this article but you never tried proving your ownership on Wikimedia Commons, why?
- If you actually had tried to prove your ownership you probably wouldn't be blocked from editing Wikimedia Commons 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 09:45, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Pronoun as he/him?
On Facebook this person referred to self with ดิฉัน and ค่ะ I'm unsure if this warrants pronoun change to she/her 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 03:33, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- I think we should stick to what is known to have been directly stated in English. There are different nuances between the languages, and the Thai terms can be read as sarcastic. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:53, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Fair enough. 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 19:19, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
Should c:File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg be used as the infobox image?
Should c:File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg be used as the infobox image? Khiikiat (talk) 13:15, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, the image should be used. It has a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported licence, and it is the only image now available at c:Category:Pavin Chachavalpongpun. All other images have been deleted. Although the image dates from 2012, the person in the image is still recognizable as Pavin Chachavalpongpun. Khiikiat (talk) 13:16, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Khiikiat ~~I afraid that the topic of this RFC isn't precise.~~ Everyone here thinks that this article should have an image. The actual problem here is that User:Newmantra kept insisting that the existing image in Wikipedia Commons (c:File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg) is inferior as it's taken from a long time ago and Newmantra claimed to actually own a better image and thus Newmantra has been changing the article's image to theirs. However as Newmantra had never actually provided proof that they've taken that image. The images (the very same image but reuploaded multiple times) got deleted from Wikimedia Commons and Newmantra got indefinitely blocked from there.🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 06:11, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I have edited the title of this RFC for further clarification. 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 06:30, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Jothefiredragon:
the very same image but reuploaded multiple times
: Newmantra has uploaded at least three different images. All of them have been deleted. One was deleted because it was clearly taken from this YouTube video. Another was deleted because it was clearly taken from this website. Khiikiat (talk) 08:35, 23 July 2025 (UTC)- I wasn't aware of the other two images you just mentioned. I only was aware of reuploads of this image.
- One of the deletion logs on Wikimedia Commons said that this image is a copyright violation but I'm not entirely convinced that it is definitely a copyright violation (the image in the article is cropped compared to the one on Commons.)
- That said I don't mind denying contribution from people that refuse to talk in a good faith. 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 09:01, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Jothefiredragon:
the image in the article is cropped compared to the one on Commons
: Newmantra may not have taken the image directly from The Times, but I do not believe Newmantra owns the copyright to the image. As I pointed out at c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:PavinC2019.jpg, the image is of low resolution and lacks EXIF metadata. Given Newmantra's other copyright violations, I think it is reasonable to conclude that Newmantra simply found the image somewhere on the internet. Khiikiat (talk) 10:41, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

- Since this is a policy / user conduct matter, it's not an issue appropriate for RfC; I've removed the RfC tag. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:52, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- Newmantra claimed above that "I owned the image to replace as I was in the room and took the photo myself." (Referring to File:PSydney.jpg.) So far i'm not seeing reason to doubt the claim. The image was deleted on Commons due to the file page not being properly listing author info. (It should have said "own work" if that was the case.) I'm going to request restoration of the file and that they be unblocked. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:03, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Paul 012: I have replied here: c:User talk:Krd#File:PSydney.jpg. Khiikiat (talk) 00:28, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Update. Administrators at Commons have declined to undelete c:File:PSydney.jpg. This means the only image we have left is c:File:Pavin Chachavalpongpun.jpg. I would like to restore it to the infobox, and I think Waniosa Amedestir would like to restore it too. Khiikiat (talk) 07:46, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Khiikiat I don't have any objections to the usage of that image on the infobox. 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 08:24, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that article should have the picture, although the date when it happened is long ago, and right now there's no new "free picture" of him yet. Waniosa Amedestir (talk) 12:37, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
Should info about Pavin's opinion of Thai government during the 2025 border conflict with cambodia be added to this article?
In this facebook post by Thairath, Pavin gave an interview, stating an opinion that Thai government shouldn't cut support for Cambodia in retaliation of 2025 Cambodia–Thailand border conflict. Not sure if this is worthy of inclusion in the article. 🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributions✨log🐉 08:39, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
