Faction or Fraction?

Red Army Faction is the usual English translation of the German Rote Armee Fraktion, but in my opinion it is not true to the original meaning. It's a mistranslation.

A faction, in English, is "a group of persons forming a cohesive, usually contentious minority within a larger group."

A fraction, in English, is "a portion", "a part of a whole".

The same happens in other languages, such as Italian (fazione, frazione), Spanish (facción, fracción), French (faction, fraction), Portuguese (fação, fração) and Dutch (factie, fractie), but not in German, which has only one word with the two meanings, Fraktion.

In this case Fraktion should be translated as Fraction in English, not Faction, which would suggest a contentious minority or a splinter group.JBarreto (talk) 16:19, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Why does the See also section link to Yonatan Netanyahu's article, it seems the articles have no connection whatsoever. Shouldn't it link to Revolutionary_Cells_(German_group) or Entebbe_raid instead?  Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.250.215.69 (talk) 23:14, 20 September 2025 (UTC)

Olof Palme

RAF Dritte Generation assassinated Sweden Prime Minister Olof Palme with a revolver handgun caliber 38 or 357 on February 28, 1986. Perhaps Wolfgang Grams was involved. At approximately 2:00 AM March 1 1986 only ca 2 hours after the assassination, RAF members telephoned Swedish ambassador Peter Telje in Bonn BRD to claim responsibility for the murder. No traces left behind. ~2026-14770-55 (talk) 22:10, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

Why? Are you in the CIA? If so, and you have reliable secondary sources supporting your claims, they should be presented them here. Cheers, Fortuna, imperatrix 23:11, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
