Renaissance Papacy → Catholic Renaissance – This is more understandable and more accurate, since we even had antipopes during the Renaissance who could be included here—not to mention the Orthodox Church, which emerged from Roman Catholicism, and the French antipopes. - Oppose, as the suggested title does not make it clear that the subject is the papacy specifically rather than Catholicism generally in the Renaissance period. Move to Renaissance papacy or Papacy in the Renaissance or or Papacy of the Renaissance instead. The word "papacy" does not need to be capitalized, and it is not capitalized in the body of this article or in the Pope article. See History of the papacy, History of the papacy (1048–1257), Social teachings of the papacy, and Legends surrounding the papacy. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:58, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. My preference is Papacy during the Renaissance as that is both precise and clear. "Renaissance papacy" is not found in RS and is not as natural. Wh1pla5h99 (talk) 21:13, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Agree
— BarrelProof (talk) 21:15, 16 April 2026 (UTC) - Move to Papacy during the Renaissance I concur that "Catholic Renaissance" makes it less clear, not more. I agree with User:Wh1pla5h99 that "Papacy during the Renaissance" is the most natural formulation. For what it's worth, it's a single data point, but the only external link/reference in the article that's actually titled after the concept is the Met link, which uses "The Papacy during the Renaissance." - Agree
- Oppose. The article is part of a series on the history of the papacy. "Catholic Renaissance" is not clearer. The exact term "Renaissance Papacy" is well used, so I would oppose the alternates suggested as well. Srnec (talk) 17:09, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose for clarity. Also support "Papacy during Renaissance" or some variant of that to clarify that "Renaissance" refers to the general European era, not a specifically Papal era. The Papacy itself has had several periods characterized as "renaissance" (e.g. mid-11th Century). Walrasiad (talk) 13:13, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
