Talk:Tel Hanaton

Horribly bad history section
- Fully unsourced till Late Ottoman period.
- Huge mistakes, see for instance the tagged anachronisms. Did some tagging and superficial editing, but it MUST BE COMPLETELY REVIEWED & PROB. REWRITTEN.
Took out this complete BS paragraph:
- Most Bronze Age cities today made visible by the tells they left behind, were forced by increasing populations to expand beyond their hilltops during the Iron Age, the period of Israelite settlement and rule, protected by retaining walls built further out and encompassing a greater area. In these cases the former tell forms the acropolis of the expanded city. Hanaton could not expand in this manner, as its immediately surrounding land in the Netofa Valley is periodically subject to months-long flooding due to winter rains, and drainage technology of the period did not allow for drying up such land.
That's BS, A) the "descent from the tell" is a major characteristic for the much later, Hellenistic period, and B) most cities in the region reached their widest expanse in Bronze AgeA IIB (Canaanite), not in the Iron Age (Israelite). (And the Beit Netofa Valley, closed from all sides, has always been flooded during winter rains, it's not period-specific.) Arminden (talk) 20:04, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
- Mariamnei, Richard Nevell, hi. I see you've taken some interest in this topic. Should you find more time, it needs thorough reworking and expansion. I won't be able to do it myself. Thank you and all the best, Arminden (talk) 20:14, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
