History

The Rake magazine was founded in 2008 by Wei Koh, building on his earlier success with Revolution magazine. Launched in 2005 in Singapore, Revolution was conceived as a publication focused on high-end watches and luxury goods. It set itself apart by blending technical detail with a modern aesthetic and was published in several languages across international editions.[1][2]

During the 2008 financial crisis, The Rake was introduced to address a gap in the market for a men's lifestyle publication emphasising classic style, timeless elegance, and artisanal craftsmanship. It aimed to cater to an audience that valued enduring quality over overt displays of wealth, drawing inspiration from historical figures renowned for their refined taste.[2][3] Initially based in Singapore, it is now based in London.[1] The Rake's editor is Tom Chamberlin.[4]
