Early life

Laura Almeida was born on May 16, 2004, in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro.[1][4]

Career

In 2020, Laura originally began her[b] career inspired by the digicore artist saturn's song "omegle".[5] She later became a member of the digicore scene.[5] Music journalist Kieran Press-Reynolds, writing for Pitchfork, labeled Twikipedia's song "born to pwn" featuring Midwxst as "Maybe the most hyperdigital 'digicore' of all time, a mad brainjection of surreal stutters, 8-bit twitches, and lyrics blending Mario, Pokemon, and Roblox with threats about gunning people down."[6]

On his review of Twikipedia's EP Still-Life (2024), Ewan Gleadow writing for Cult Following's described it as bedroom pop.[7] Stereogum cited the album as taking inspiration from the shoegaze artist Parannoul.[8] On May 10, 2024, Day released the album, For the Rest of Your Life.[8] Frank Ude of Doth Music labeled the album a "punk and shoegaze" combined record that "balances peacefulness with an attention-challenging edge."[9]

In a Pitchfork review of digicore musician Kuru's 2024 album re:wired, Press-Reynolds stated, "The twikipedia-produced highlight 'if u cant change i wont either' brings everything together: a matrix of choppy breakbeats, fairytale piano rolls, and tortured lyrics."[10]

Influence

According to music journalist Kieran Press-Reynolds, writing for Pitchfork, the artist Syzy cited Twikipedia's song "seams" as an influence.[3] Blogger Eli Enis cited Asian Glow as "a crucial contributor to the 2020s shoegaze renaissance", which inspired the "DAW-designed digi-gaze" of Jane Remover, Twikipedia and Quannnic to transition from digicore to shoegaze.[11]
