1. Magic pipe trick: Synonymous article titles may be clarified with terms in parentheses, like this: [[Self (psychology)]]. But when you want to include such a link in the body of an article, this would look rather awkward. So all you have to do is use the "magic pipe trick", like this: [[Self (psychology)|]]. Notice the pipe ("|") character stuck in there at the end of the link? That makes the link look like this: Self, without having to type the name of the link after the pipe! This trick also works with namespaces, so that [[Wikipedia:Tip of the day|]] (again notice the pipe character) displays like this: Tip of the day.
2. Plural trick: While editing, you will often need to make a link to a plural. For example, suppose you wanted to link "Fred Foo was famous for his study of puddles" to puddle; you could link it like so: [[puddle|puddles]]. However, you can save time by instead writing [[puddle]]s. This also works for adjectives ([[Japan]]ese), verbs ([[dance]]d), and any other suffixes or prefixes, like [[bring]]ing. It does not, however, work for some irregular verbs. For example, [[try]]ied does not work; you have to use [[try|tried]]. Nor does it work with apostrophes needed outside the wikilink like: [[J. R. R. Tolkien]]'s.
On the 16th of June, 2025, my request for the role of Pending Changes reviewer was approved.
If you contribute in any way to the Wikipedia project; be it while logged in or as an unregistered user - and by contributing entire new articles or by fixing misspellings and marking dead links - You Are Valuable. Your input on policy discussions has merit; your concerns deserve to be heard; your right to be bold and actively edit articles yourself is not up for debate. This also means you have the same responsibilities as the rest of us - to always assume good faith in your interactions with others, and never to intentionally disrupt the website - to name but a few. Finally, you will of course be forgiven for making mistakes - just as any member of the community would be.
As a reviewer of pending changes, I have been entrusted with the ability to approve proposed edits to specially protected pages - or to reject them as out-and-out vandalism. That's where the role begins and ends. My opinion is not worth more than yours. I am not presumed to be more knowledgeable on Wikipedia's policies and guidelines than other editors. I am not innately more attractive than other community members. It is merely a janitorial role in which I use the tool as set out in HELP:REVIEWING.
You can find the log of pending changes I have reviewed here.
You are welcome at any time to ask me about a judgement call I have made - publicly or privately, whichever you prefer. All I ask is that you be understanding if I am not as prompt in responding to you as what I would like - just as you are, I am contributing to Wikipedia as an unpaid volunteer. All of us have other demands on our time.
A Tesla Roadster for you!
