Introduction
Hello, I'm Shaun Thompson, also known as AxonsArachnida. I am a New Zealand based entomologist/arachnologist. I am still somewhat new to Wikipedia/Wikidata but I am learning fast. I am employed by Te Papa as detailed in my Conflict of Interest below. Although I am associated with Te Papa, my wiki related activities are not part of my professional work there and are entirely a hobby.
My overarching goal
My aim is to turn Wikipedia into a extremely detailed and reliable source of information on New Zealand's wildlife. Much of what is known is hidden within academia and is difficult to access for the lay person. This information should be made easy to access and understand.
Reviewing
If asked, I'm usually happy to review species articles for Good/Featured status if time is permitting. I'm also happy to make suggestions for species articles in general.
To do
- Get Huhu beetle up to Good Article, then Featured Article status.
- Get Megadromus capito up to Good Article status.
- Get New Zealand bat fly up to Good Article status.
- Get Nysius huttoni up to Good Article status.
- Create article for Rowan Emberson
- Get Austrovenus stutchburyi up to Good Article, then Featured Article status.
- Get Harmonia antipodum up to Good Article status.

About meI am a paid employee of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa), an autonomous Crown entity of New Zealand that provides a forum in which the nation may present, explore, and preserve both the heritage of its cultures and knowledge of the natural environment in order to better understand and treasure the past, enrich the present, and meet the challenges of the future. We are working to make our holdings, publications, and other resources more accessible to the public by engaging directly with the Wikimedia Foundation projects Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
Conflict of interest statementWhen I am editing the Wikimedia Foundation projects Wikipedia, Wikidata or contributing to Wikimedia Commons as part of my official professional duties, I always strive to strictly abide by the accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability of that particular project. Because Te Papa's educational mission is in line with Wikipedia's mission to disseminate knowledge freely, I will not make edits that I do not believe are in accordance with that Wikimedia Foundation projects practices and procedures. Therefore, I will not make substantive edits to articles related to Te Papa as an agency (e.g. Te Papa), or its personnel. Instead, my edits and contributions will be to contribute subject matter expertise, for example to improve articles about Te Papa holdings or subjects relating to New Zealand (e.g. Phar Lap, New Zealand art). You can find out more about this project at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa WikiProject. Te Papa’s work on Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons is being governed by internal guidelines, which we have published on-wiki in our WikiProject page. If you believe I have made an error or violated Wikipedia’s norms, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email is also listed on this page in case I am not regularly checking my talk page.
