- William Slingsby - lived in Harrogate, and later at Bilton Hall. 1626 discovery. Uncle of Knaresborough MP Sir William Slingsby.[1] - original sources Spadacrene Anglica (Edmund Deane) & Newes out of Yorkshire (Michael Stanhope)

William Etty (architect) - bridge over Derwent at Stamford Bridge, 1727[2] - beaten to it again- Thomas Page (architect) - engineer of Westminster Bridge, designer of the second attempt at Lendal Bridge in York (1865). Also Skeldergate Bridge in York, with son George Gordon Page[3]
- William Dredge - designer of the first ill-fated Lendal Bridge which collapsed during construction killing six workers. (1861) The girders were dredged from the river and used to build Valley Bridge in Scarborough. (1865)[3]
