Sports cities and metro areas edits
I saw your edit summary of the reverts you did on my edits. The page needs more changes and overhaul if it’s going to focus on metro areas. Hell the titles of the article is off then…Banan14kab (talk) 07:13, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- What updates do you think are required?
- The list is clearly based on metro areas, you can see the actual cities listed in parenthesis. By my count, there are actually only 4 cities proper that have 4 teams.
- I don't view the title as problematic, as cites can be interpreted in different ways. See for example List of largest cities:
The United Nations uses three definitions for what constitutes a city, as not all cities in all jurisdictions are classified using the same criteria. Cities may be defined as the cities proper, their metropolitan regions, or the extent of their urban area.
- That being said, I'm not opposed to a rename if you think it's warranted. TDL (talk) 11:56, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

To add India as de facto MNNA in the MNNA section
In 2018, the U.S. elevated India to Strategic Trade Authorization Tier 1 (STA-1) status. This is the strongest evidence of "de facto" MNNA status. India is the only non-NATO country (other than MNNAs like Japan and South Korea) to hold this status. Abhinandan123e (talk) 09:38, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- But that does not give them de facto" MNNA status. TDL (talk) 02:12, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- You are technically correct that India is not a de jure MNNA. However, the "de facto" argument rests on the fact that the U.S. government has created a custom-built legal equivalent specifically for India to bypass the political baggage of the "Ally" label to prevent a Russian backlash for India.
- Just check NDAA 2017 (Section 1292), which mandates that India be treated at a level "commensurate with that of the United States’ closest allies and partners." In legal terms, "commensurate with" is the functional equivalent of "treated as though." It is very similar to the defacto mnna of Taiwan.
- And also the Strategic Trade Authorization (STA-1). Only 37 countries have this. 36 of them are NATO members or formal MNNAs (like Japan). India is the 37th. If India isn't a "de facto" ally, why does it have the exact same license-free export privileges as the U.K. or Australia, while 19 other formal MNNAs (like Brazil or Morocco) do not?
- de facto mnna is there for India but its just a series of acts and laws and trade deals which make it difficult for wikipedia editors and other analysts to state it. India is not a directly mandated MNNA but a indirect one. Maybe we can add all these arguments to prove this point and more if needed. Abhinandan123e (talk) 03:11, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a publisher of original thought.
- Your arguments above are synthesizing materials to draw conclusions that are not directly supported by the sources.
- It makes sense to discuss this content at Major_non-NATO_ally#India_as_a_major_defense_partner, but we shouldn't be listing them as a de facto MNNA unless that claim can be explicitey supported by reliable sources. TDL (talk) 00:30, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
