- Wikipedia is in the real world. Actions have consequences, and things written on the internet are hard to take back.
- Ten Simple Rules for Women in Red. This essay contains very good, concise, and generally applicable advice on article creation. It takes 2 minutes to read and I'd recommend it to anyone creating their first article (on any topic).

- Your combination of knowledge, culture, and experience is unique in the world. You could contribute something valuable to Wikipedia. If you want to do so, the best time to start is now.

- The pipe trick
The pipe trick automatically simplifies certain wikilinks. For example:

Template:R is a neat and readable way of invoking references. It can take multiple arguments. For example: {{r|ref1|ref2}} is equivalent to <ref name="ref1" /><ref name="ref2" />.
