Bio/areas of expertise: I'm a writer, education consultant, and Assistant Vice Provost for Learning Environments, Emeritus, at Stanford University, following a 35-year career as an educator and academic technology leader. Previously I was Senior Director of Learning Environments, Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning; Director of Academic Computing Services, Stanford Libraries; and a Lecturer for 12 years in Stanford's English Department and writing program. I'm co-creator of the Learning Space Rating System , and my scholarship includes articles, book chapters, and college textbooks such as Composing Cyberspace: Identity, Community, and Knowledge in the Electronic Age (McGraw-Hill). My fiction includes the critically-recognized hypertext novel Figurski at Findhorn on Acid, other widely-exhibited electronic literature, the collection Step Away from the Pizza: Fictions, etc., and stories in many literary journals. My awards include writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, MacDowell, the Brown Foundation/Dora Maar House, and the California Arts Council. I have a BA from Stanford and MA and MFA degrees from San Francisco State University, where I also taught creative writing.
