Biography

To whomever it may concern, I'm Joseph Charles "Joe" Vitale, born on June 27, 1979 in the great city of Youngstown, Ohio in the United States, I grew up there until I was around 19, before moving to the not-so-great Wichita, Kansas for a part-time job with my father, Vannozzo Vitale (what a name!), and in late 2009 I went on a short trip to Stockport, Cheshire, England, with a former friend of mine (who doesn't want to be named due to his profession). Not before long, I decided to stay there permanently (what a mistake!). I support the English football/soccer club Stockport Town, after formerly supporting Rochdale.

I joined Wikipedia (my only love!) on the 31st of January in 2014, after anonymously and frequently editing for many months. The main reason for becoming a Wikipedian had remained a mystery for many years, but in subsequent years I've realised that I joined to make albums, singles, footballers, and musicians mean more to me in digital words, mostly for myself, but if you find that helpful then I must be doing something (if anything) right! And the only advice that I can give to anyone is L.A.B.A.T.Y.D (an acronym for "Life's a Bitch and Then You Die", harsh but true or not, I guess that it depends on the actor.

My Motto is:

  • L.A.B.A.T.Y.D! You've Just Gotta Get Used to It and You'll Live a Happy Life (Or try to!)

Autograph collecting, and notable people that I've met

You may find that in the "Additional information" section I have an autograph collection. My first ever autograph was the Who's Roger Daltrey which I managed via backstage security whom kindly forwarded my note/request to him, and he wrote back to me personally. He dedicated it to myself, and told me to "Be Lucky" (as he does with most fans), but little did I know that he was going to record a song with this title as a single in 2014, with Pete Townshend as the Who (I also created a Wikipedia article for the song). Some of my other autographs were via fanmail (However, most of those I wrote to never got back to me. e.g. Paul McCartney, Don Henley, Glenn Frey (now R.I.P.), Sting, and Pete Townshend). The only autographs that I acquired via fanmail were Joe Walsh's, and Phil Collins'. I got Alexander O'Neal's autographs via an associate, he signed a photograph, and copies of his studio albums, Alexander O'Neal (1985), Hearsay (1987), All True Man (1991), and Love Makes No Sense (1993), and I later met him randomly one day outside of the Britannia Hotel in Manchester — he obviously didn't know who I was, and wasn't very nice (apparently he is hard of hearing, but was much nicer to my friend than he was to me).

I have personally met the current and former Rochdale players Stephen Dawson; Peter Vincenti; Ian Henderson; Rhys Bennett; Joe Bunney; Michael Rose, and Olly Lancashire, after seeing them play Scunthorpe United in March 2015.

In 2018, I met the Doobie Brothers' Michael McDonald, and his wife Amy Holland backstage, and later that year I also met Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason backstage, with the associated Saucerful of Secrets, including a brief interaction with Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet. After concerts in 2022, I met Dave Wakeling of the Beat, Madison Cunningham, Laura Veirs, and Stephen Mallinder of Cabaret Voltaire. I also randomly met Morrissey of the Smiths at the Waitrose in Wilmslow, who was very strange to me also in 2022...

2023 was a little more eventful (and tiring). I met Kate Bollinger, Suzanne Vega (who put me on the guest list to one of her concerts for the second time), Laura Evans (very rude for some reason), Jez Kerr of A Certain Ratio (outside the venue before the first show that I saw by them), Valor Kand and Maitri of the current Christian Death, Nik Kershaw, Wreckless Eric, and Lucia Fairfull of Lucia & the Best Boys. I also tried to meet John Lydon after his Public Image Ltd concert in Manchester but he practically ignored me, and was rude to all but one person whilst very drunk. I stopped listening to him significantly after that...

In 2024, I randomly met Will Mellor at the Queens pub in Bredbury, Stockport (where he was born, and raised), and also Tracy Tracy of the Primitives after a concert in Manchester.

In 2025, I met Suzanne Vega again (under similar circumstances), and also paid for a brief meet and greet with Howard Jones, my first time of doing that, and whilst really not 100% worth it: I wanted a close seat, and got to ask him some more obscure questions, which was.
