Interests
- all things language and linguistics
- descriptive linguistics, that is: typology and universals
- computational linguistics including corpus linguistics and machine translation
- conlanging
- Making machine-readable linguistic resources like grammars and dictionaries for languages that lack them
- Would like to know the following languages better:
- Would like to be properly fluent in:
- computers, computing, programming and all that jazz (but not consoles) but especially
- Python, because it has become my native programming language
- computational linguistics
- Using sets instead of trees in categorization/ontologies (trees suck to describe natural phenomena!)
- Freenixes like Linux (currently running Ubuntu) and *BSD's (currently running FreeBSD, looking into DragonflyBSD)
- Computer games:
- First person sneakers like the Thief series and all things Looking Glass Studios
- Simulators like the Civilization-series and things like Starcraft, though not so much Sim City
- MMORPGs without leveling but based on cooperation and communication like Untìl Uru
- Adventure games like The Longest Journey, Myst, but also text adventures, the Sierra adventure series and the Lucasarts adventure games
- general world building, including conlanging
- drinkable stuff
- tea, also iced tea
- various carbonated beverages, especially schorle and pepsi max
- hot and cold concoctions based on cocoa
- beer (especially wheat and trappiste)
- cider (English and French) and apfelwein (from Frankfurt)
- calvados (the cider's answer to cognac)
- rum (especially dark and Cuban) and its associated drinks
- white wine (especially riesling from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Nähe and Alsace, kabinett or better)
- eatable stuff, especially if not in the IMHO much overused and boring French/Italien international nice restaurant style
- Pork is quite simply the meat of the gods
- Bulgur is the clearly the best carbohydrate-source
- I try to eat at least one dish of blasfemic food a week. Liberate your tastebuds!
