When I can, which varies considerably, I edit typically on music or history (and occasionally other topics like philosophy, law, or medicine).
I enjoy reading, thinking, and music as relatable, hopefully ecstatic or didactic experiences, e.g.,
- the songs "The Big Rock Candy Mountains" or "I Hate Everything",
- the concerted madrigal "Zefiro torna",
- the pre-moral fool shooting a "tame" swan on hallowed ground in Wagner's Parsifal—and his reprimand by Gurnemanz: "Du konntest morden, hier, im heil'gen Walde".
This largely sustains my quiet presence here. (Even Schoenberg was caught enjoying a Met Opera broadcast, "turned full blast", of Wagner's Meistersinger. He was dancing "all over the room with the greatest abandon and singing all the choral parts with much gusto"—to this passage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyplFhRncLo.)
I try not to be a cognitive miser, though time is money.
