Tropical Storm Chantal is a tropical cyclone in the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. It was the third named storm of the season and mostly affected areas in the Carolinas, while indirectly affecting Georgia.
Meteorological history
The storm developed from a tropical wave on July 4, 2025. It strengthened into a tropical depression and later a tropical storm. It reached peak intensity and made landfall in the early hours of July 6, with winds of 60 mph (~96.5 km/h).
Preparations and impact
Authorities issued tropical storm watches and warnings in the Carolinas. Chantal caused heavy rain in eastern South Carolina and southern North Carolina.
Aftermath
Agencies or governments provided relief efforts. The name Chantal was not retired from the list of Atlantic tropical cyclone names.
