I'm a writer/historian/linguist, but the only languages I'm comfortable putting myself out there saying that I "can speak" them are English and German. See below for an explanation.
I was born in the Soviet Union, but moved to the United States when I was very young, and grew up speaking English, German, American Sign Language, and a small amount of French, although the last time I spoke French or used ASL was last century.
As you can see, there is a long list of languages which I am actively working on developing proficiency in. I read copious amounts of history and love it. I'm currently in the process of publishing my first novel.
