Ottō
Ottō (Japanese: オットー)
History
The store was founded by Asao Takabe in Nishitenma-6 [ja]-chome Kita-ku, Osaka in 1977. It started primarily selling business shoes for men at a discounted price. It is the first shoe store in the Kansai region to sell "secret shoes", a shoe that makes people 6 to 8 centimetres (3.1 in) taller.[1]
Following the Japanese asset price bubble bursting in 1993, the store hung a banner saying "No more, we are quitting!" (もうあかん やめます!, Mō akan yamemasu!). It closed in February 2016.[1][2]
