Why I Decided to Leave Wikipedia?

Wikipedia has become a deeply frustrating and unhealthy environment, and I do not recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their sanity.

I attempted to create an article about a subject from Kerala, a region where much historical and institutional information exists in real life rather than online. The article did include quotes and factual material, but because most documentation is not digitized or available in English-language online sources, it was immediately treated as “unsourced” and dismissed. This is an extremely narrow and biased way of judging knowledge, especially when dealing with non-Western regions.

Despite the fact that everything I wrote was completely factual, one editor repeatedly accused me of having a conflict of interest and aggressively pushed for deletion. This continued even when other moderators openly disagreed. It genuinely felt like a personal attack rather than a good-faith content discussion — a clear attempt to undermine my work.

To prevent the article from being erased entirely, I preserved it in my userspace: User:Parabelleum/St Ignatius Orthodox Maha Edavaka, Kaipattoor.

What made this worse was the community attitude. Certain users — one of whom I will refer to as WK — were openly dismissive and condescending toward less experienced editors. That kind of behavior is not only unwelcoming, it is toxic, and it discourages meaningful contributions from people outside the usual English-centric bubble.

For now, I am stepping away from Wikipedia. I may return someday, but only if articles from regions like Kerala are treated with fairness and cultural understanding rather than arrogance and bad-faith gatekeeping.
