ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:52, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Neesia aquatica

The trustworthy plant databases like Plants of the World Online and International Plant Names Index don't recognize the name Neesia aquatica. Perhaps the author of the master's thesis got the scientific name wrong.

If you want to create an article you can do it through Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Just make sure to include one or more reliable references - Plants of the World Online, World Flora Online, IPNI, Tropicos, etc. - which confirm the plant's accepted binomial. Tom Radulovich (talk) 05:49, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

I don't doubt that the plant exists, or that some folks refer to it as Neesia aquatica, and there's no need to keep dropping citations in my talk page. What I'm saying is that botanists don't recognize that species name. Perhaps you can find out the accepted species name and include it in the draft you submit. December 2025

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generalisation, other talk pages are strictly for discussing improvements to their associated main pages, and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about the article's topic or any other topic. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse. Thanks. JustARandomSquid (talk) 19:29, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

this comment is too vague
Piñanana (talk) 20:21, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
That would've been about this comment on Talk:Artificial intelligence, which wasn't related to improving the article, like discussions on talk pages are supposed to be. JustARandomSquid (talk) 22:01, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

About citation templates

Hey Piñanana, hope your holidays are going well! I wanted to let you know that {{ill}} templates should not be used inside citation templates, per the template documentation. I see that you've made that change on a few articles recently, so you might want to go back and adjust those edits so that they're not causing errors on the back end. Let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 02:18, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

how do I find them ?
Piñanana (talk) 20:26, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Not sure what you mean; what are you trying to find? TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 21:39, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
"I see that you've made that change on a few articles"
Piñanana (talk) 22:20, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha. I was looking through your contributions, and noticed that you'd made similar edits, for example, on Michiyo Aratama and on Shōhei Imamura. I have the My Neighbor Totoro article on my watchlist, so I noticed your edit there and fixed the issue, but I just wanted to mention that there are other articles that need that change as well. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:27, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
inside citation templates, ill can be substituted with :ja: in these cases

Hi there, I was wondering if you could explain why you are leaving links to unreliable sources on article talk pages? Some examples: Union Square; Talk:Outsiders (British TV series); Talk:Rudolph Spreckels; Kevin Tighe. Meadowlark (talk) 02:27, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

I'm answering your comment on my talkpage here.
Yes, someone needs to assess whether the sources are reliable before adding them to the article. You should be able to do that. Is there a reason that you aren't at least assessing them and discarding unreliable sources? It adds more work for other editors to assess them and then work out where you think they should go (if they are reliable, and many of them are not). Meadowlark (talk) 02:22, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
the number of tasks spawned while working on an article exceeded bandwidth, so I archived tasks that others might attempt before I had time to work on them
Piñanana (talk) 23:36, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Citation changes

Hi Piñanana, what are you trying to do with edits like these? Meadowlark (talk) 07:59, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

these are different archives of the book
Piñanana (talk) 08:06, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for answering. We only need a single archive link, so please don't do this any more.
Could you please also answer my question in the section above? Meadowlark (talk) 08:07, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
I agree, please revert these changes, there is absolutely no need for 5 links to the same source within a single ref tag, and appears to possibly be WP:LINKSPAM. - Adolphus79 (talk) 13:42, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
which archive of the book is best ?

WP:BLP

I see that you have already been alerted to the special care required when editing biographies of living people. This citation dump contained zero sources that were simultaneously reliable and supported the information in question; please do not make edits like that in the future. --JBL (talk) 21:29, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

not a citation dump

Please review WP:BLP. None of the sources you added have the following two properties: (1) they are WP:RS, and (2) they verify the information you added. To add this kind of personal information it is absolutely necessary to have sources that meet both criteria simultaneously. --JBL (talk) 21:40, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
Celia Applegate and Stewart Weaver are her parents
Celia Applegate and Stewart Weaver were both both professors of history at University of Rochester

Piñanana (talk) 21:45, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
No, none of the sources that you added that assert that one of those people is her parent was a reliable source; most of the sources you added could potentially be reliable sources for something but did not contain any information about any family relationships between these people. --JBL (talk) 21:53, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

Butch Whacks

I was amused to notice your bit of work on Butch Whacks and the Glasspacks. My older brother Peter Gordon played sax with them for a couple of years. Peter talks about it (and some of our other friends) here. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 18:11, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Okay, did Bobby Slayton perform with Butch Whacks and the Glasspacks ?
I want to make a list of people who performed with Butch Whacks and the Glasspacks.

No idea about Butch Whacks beyond Peter's involvement. (I saw them only once, at the Playboy Club in SF.) --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 20:08, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

I had replaced Karl in a 1950s music revue called Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs. Karl had to quit the band when he began his studies in physics at San Francisco State, and I understand that after a career in physics, he is now devoted to playing the shakuhachi."
