The Deep Web

If you are working in low data scenarios, these information sources might be of use to you:

Non-googlable Virtual Repositories

Books

Journals

  • JSTOR - the archive of scholarly journals - Athena login required (ask your librarian)
  • Google Scholar - search of published literature
  • arxiv.org

Libraries

Magazines, Periodicals and Newspapers

Encyclopaediae

  • EB - Athena login required (ask your librarian)
  • Encarta - the MS backed encyclopaedia
  • H2G2 - this is free and googlable, but I'm including it for completeness

Auction Sites

Image repositories

  • Flickr - this is also free and googlable, and included here for completeness
  • British Library image search - large public domain image collection
  • eBay - to reiterate, the best place to find rare book covers
  • Library of Congress media repository

Peer process

Strange. An article I stubbed with one line has become a DYK snippet based on that line now that the article was well destubbed.
