"Do you want to take a survey?"

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Because I don't like how "I'm the one who makes microwaves" is all over. – Gasgas11 Talk! Watch! 04:05, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

I have reverted your removal of their user page. You "not liking" somebody's user page is 1) not a reason to blank it and 2) not a reason to request indefinite protection for it. I have also reverted the "disruptive editing" warning you left for them. aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:22, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Noting that you immediately reverted again and then tried to leave a warning on my page. @Izno, I think a few things need to be reviewed... aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:26, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Probably better to throw that one at @PhilKnight, or otherwise at a forum more tuned to your question. (Not to say "told you so" but because I think technically if I instate a block here that's a wheel war? :) Izno (talk) 04:34, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Valid point. Until @PhilKnight is active, I have left a notice on their talk page about WP:BLANKING after they tried to restore an improperly given warning on my own talk page. Possible that they just lack a basic understanding of Wikipedia policies given that they are a new editor, so at least now they know. 🤷🏽‍♀️ aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:37, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Declined I second aesurias's assessment; a review of WP:UPNOT does not give me any reason to think this content is disallowed. RunningOnBrains(talk) 04:31, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Would you/somebody mind restoring the user page, which Gasgas11 had no right to change?
@Gasgas11, please also:
- do not leave improper warnings (my talk page and Ipad's, for example)
- do not restore improper warnings (or any warnings, actually) that were removed by a user on their own talk page
- do not claim that my edits are "vandalism" or threaten a block from editing for "disruptive editing" because I reverted an edit you made that broke a guideline aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:34, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Before posting a request for unprotection, please discuss it with the protecting administrator first. You can create a request below only if you receive no response from them.

To find out which administrator protected the page, go to the page's edit history and click on the "View logs for this page" link (located underneath the page's title). The protecting administrator is listed in the protection log entry, next to the words "protected", "changed protection level", or "configured pending changes". If there are a large number of log entries on the page, use the drop-down menu near the top of the page and select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" to filter the logs accordingly.

DO NOT request a reduction in protection if...

  • ...you are being prevented from editing the page. A desire to change content is not a valid reason for unprotection. Instead:
    • If you can edit the article's talk page, use the WP:Edit Request Wizard to propose a change on the article's talk page. Include an explanation of the exact content that you want to change, and what the content will be afterward.
    • If the article's talk page is protected, you may propose a change at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Edit.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is that the article has not been vandalized. That simply means the protection is working as intended.
  • ...your reasoning for reducing protection is basically "a long time has passed" without supporting details.
  • ...you haven't contacted the protecting administrator.

You may request a protection reduction below if...

  • ...you want to change the protection level of a template or module from full protection to template protection. You may add the request to this page without having to discuss it with the protecting administrator first.
  • ...you need to remove creation protection from a location where no page exists (redlinked pages) after a draft version of the intended article is prepared beforehand and ready to be published.
  • ...you are proposing a trial reduction in protection for a page that has been protected for several years, provided the proposal is supported by evidence such as talk page activity, page views, page traffic, number of watchers, frequency of edit requests, and prior history of vandalism.
  • ...the protecting administrator is inactive or has not responded to you in several days.

If you cannot locate your request, make sure to check the request archives to see if it's been moved there. Only requests that have been recently answered will still be listed here.

2026 Iran war

I would like to request that the part where it says 30 Kurdish security forces being killed being removed as the source doesn’t say that much was killed and any online new sources also doesn’t mention that many members of the KRG/KRSC security forces died from the conflict, if it did happen then better sources will be needed to back it up and the current source doesn’t  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-16036-17 (talk) 20:00, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Note: This concerns the infobox. I found a source saying "Strikes on PMF bases in Iraq kill at least 30" but this refers to specific strikes this week and is not an aggregate figure. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 19:53, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
Note: I have found a source that says At least 112 killed in US-Israel attacks on Kurdistan province in Iran, with 969 injured. Probably the article could be updated with these numbers. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 01:47, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

2026 Iran war

In the infobox, change:

    • 90 naval vessels sunk or damaged[1][a]

to

    • 90 naval vessels sunk or damaged, see list[3]

The explanatory note only includes the sinking of IRIS Dena, which was near the totality of naval losses a week ago but the claimed losses have now substantially expanded. This would also bring the treatment of naval losses much more in line with aviation losses.

An alternate (in my opinion uglier) option would be:

Not done. This seems to be a misreading of the content which says The US and Israeli attacks were supported at least in part by [a list of countries not including North Korea] and goes on to say, while being implicitly or explicitly opposed by [a list of countries including North Korea]. That is, North Korea opposed the attacks. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 00:04, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
Woops, that is correct, thank you. ~2026-16322-59 (talk) 04:02, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

2026 Iran war

Please consider reviewing the article title. The United States has not formally declared war on Iran, and the terminology “war” may be premature or imprecise. A title such as “2026 Iran conflict” or similar may better reflect the current status unless reliable sources widely adopt “2026 Iran war.” Morphicz (talk) 21:38, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Not done. The current title is the result of a discussion at which there was a very strong consensus to call this a "war," as most sources provided are doing. Any further change to the article title would need a new discussion (which would be restricted to extended confirmed users). Malcolmxl5 (talk) 23:53, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

User:Umais Bin Sajjad

I have created over 150 mainspace articles (primarily in the area of Film and TV). While some of my earlier creations were deleted, the majority of my recent articles remain live, and I have refined my sourcing and notability assessment standards over time. I am familiar with WP:N, WP:BLP, WP:V and WP:RS and I ensure that all new articles meet notability and sourcing standards prior to creation. As I continue to create new articles...I believe autopatrolled would help reduce workload for NPP, as my pages generally require minimal follow-up. User:TinaLees-Jones

User has created over 900 live articles, mainly all relating to Asian people and places. None of the articles I've randomly spot checked have any major issues that would prevent them from passing muster in NPP. SnowyRiver28 (talk) 01:15, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Recent changes have been performed to the infobox template for college basketball teams, and I have added new parameters which, following MOS, uses snake case. Older and existing parameters are in violation of this, and so I am seeking to use AWB to make bulk fixes to every page that uses this template in adding underscoring. I would estimate over 500+ pages use this template, so having automation for this would be preferred. Red0ctober22 (talk) 18:23, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Not done Red0ctober22 This was a difficult call to make but given the recent concerns about not checking things enough before editing templates I do not want to grant access quite yet. I see that you are learning quickly however and do have a good use case for the tool so I propose you come back in a month and assuming there haven't been similar issues in the meantime I will be happy to grant access then. I need some, potentially large number of, lists of articles that may benefit from certain changes in templates and wiki markup language, like toggling between 'resetting' and "not resetting" the footnote label numbering after each {{notelist}}. I'd like access to AWB to take care of typos and MOS errors I'm constantly coming across in one fell swoop, usually MOS:'S, MOS:LQ, MOS:LANG, MOS:SINGLE, and the various case uses of MOS:DASH. Any automation that can be added to these kind of clockwork edits would be helpful. I still plan on doing mostly manual edits bc I'm more engaged with expansion than cleanup. But I think I go through enough ebbing and flowing in the clockwork edits department to justify AWB'ing. ThaesOfereode (talk) 22:15, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Sohom_Datta, I can't see the article anymore, so going off memory here. I recall that the sources looked ok at first glance - and that there was a French article on him, but then the sources didn't pan-out upon closer inspection (and I think user was a sock trying to gain experience). If there's a way for me to view the deleted page, I could better explain my thinking. WidgetKid Converse 05:28, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
I've temporarily undeleted the history and article at User:Sohom_Datta/Missa_Hebié if that helps. Sohom (talk) 09:10, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, Sohom_Datta. Here's my read on the sources for that article:
  • Faso-Actu: Coverage of Hebié's death and accomplishments, including positions with national film organization and *national television.
  • Infos Culture du Faso: Coverage of Hebié's death and accomplishments, including positions with national film organization and national television.
  • LeFaso: Coverage of Hebié's passing, including interviews with other film directors about his importance.
  • Africultures: Held Deputy Director of Programming for Burkina Faso's National Television.
  • RFI: Coverage of Hebié's latest film, but also prior works.
  • LeFaso: In-depth review of Hebié's work and considers whether he's a visionary.
  • France 24: Film of Hebié's reported as creating a buzz at FESPACO.
That all seemed to add up to notability to me. In hindsight, I should have looked at Muhskk's history. Though I get why this was removed (user was a sock), but I still think the subject may be notable enough to warrant an article. WidgetKid Converse 15:13, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Sohom_Datta & Rosguill, my access has expired. I'd like to keep helping, so maybe an extension instead of permanent access? Any feedback I can incorporate into my efforts? Thanks! WidgetKid Converse 16:05, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
Sohom_Datta & Rosguill, any guidance here? WidgetKid Converse 05:30, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
I'm leaning  Not done at the moment. Your AFD record sees a lot of participation amongst the Indian education/colleges topic area that has typically seen promotional activity and your AFD rationales there are often very short and don't contain a lot of context. Wrt to the Miss Hebie draft, I can understand that you overlooked the sock-like tendency of the creator. However, your assessment of the sources raises more concerns than it addresses. The fact that you consider LeFaso: In-depth review of Hebié's work and considers whether he's a visionary. and France 24: Film of Hebié's reported as creating a buzz at FESPACO. to contribute to the pages notability rubs me the wrong way since both of them feel like the textbook cases of a WP:MILL press release and non-substantial coverage respectively, which would typically have been discounted at AFD. Sohom (talk) 06:49, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks Sohom_Datta. Would you please elaborate on how my participation on Indian education/colleges relates? One of the AfD categories I've followed is technology and there's been a lot in that vein. Is my brevity the main concern? Is there an expectation that more input is needed for a vote when the nomination has solid analysis?

Regarding the Missa Hebié article, I didn't mean to imply that all the sources were WP:THREE worthy, just that taken altogether, they add up to notability.
  • 1. Faso-Actu: Coverage of Hebié's death and accomplishments, including positions with national film organization and national television.
Indicates notability - independent source, subject covered in depth.
  • 2. Infos Culture du Faso: Coverage of Hebié's death and accomplishments, including positions with national film organization and national television.
Not a reliable source for determining reliability, but ok as supporting source.
  • 3. LeFaso: Coverage of Hebié's passing, including interviews with other film directors about his importance.
Indicates notability - independent source, subject covered in depth.
  • 4/5. Africultures: Held Deputy Director of Programming for Burkina Faso's National Television.
Corroborating independent source, but lacks depth.
  • 6. RFI: Coverage of Hebié's latest film, but also prior works.
Indicates notability - independent source, subject covered in depth.
  • 7. LeFaso: In-depth review of Hebié's work and considers whether he's a visionary.
Indicates notability - independent source, subject covered in depth.
  • 8/11. Program from FESPACO 2013
Ok as corroborating source, but biography is WP:PRIMARY.
  • 9. France 24: Film of Hebié's reported as creating a buzz at FESPACO.
Ok as corroborating source, but lacks depth for notability.
  • 10. AlloCiné: List of works.
Ok as corroborating source, but lacks depth for notability.
WidgetKid Converse 18:31, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
As I have mentioned previously, I would contend that 6 and 7 are just WP:MILL coverage of press releases for the film being released and do not qualify towards indicating notability. Regarding your participation at AFD, yes, brevity is not a desirable trait to a degree. Typically, administrators will look for votes that are not "per nom", with the gold standard being ones that engage with the discussion around sources and policy. A lot of AFDs with "per nom" votes is not a good sign towards understanding the underlying policies. For what it's worth, the impetus of my initial question was purely a sock-related one, however your explanation of sourcing has made me slide towards "not ready" when coupled with the rest of your activity. Sohom (talk) 03:26, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
@Sohom Datta, @Rosguill, and @HJ Mitchell, I appreciate being given the chance to review new articles. It sounds like I'm not quite there. What advice would you have for me to do next if I want to get trial access again? Continue with AfDs? Thoughts on timeline for when I might re-apply? Thank you! WidgetKid Converse 20:00, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

User:FantasticWikiUser

Requesting a trial run only unless you think I clearly meet the criteria. I want to see if this is something I enjoy, especially because there is such a large backlog on it. I often vote on AfDs which has a good track record, although my nominations often haven't done so well. I also occasionally assess articles. FantasticWikiUser(Ts and Cs) 15:39, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

User:Boynamedsue

I made an article the other day and saw it hadn't yet been reviewed. When I looked into the review process to find out why, I realised that there was a big backlog and I could probably help out. So here I am.

I've been a user for a long time and have contributed to AfD (though somewhat sporadically) and written quite a few new articles of decent quality. I contribute a lot at the reliable source noticeboard and have a very strong grasp of sourcing and WP:GNG.

My one weakness that I am aware of is that I've never created a draft, so I would probably need help with that. There will likely be some other technical questions I'm not yet aware of, but I pick stuff up quickly. Boynamedsue (talk) 06:29, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

User:Phlogiston Enthusiast

Hello. I'm Phlogiston Enthusiast. I have ~1350 edits total, and many more than 500 main space edits. I have created many pages, and am familiar with the policy on page creation, as well as translated a page into English, so I would be familiar with this too. I'm looking for something new to try, and I'd like to try this. I have at least 90 Days of experience as well. I have experience patrolling recent changes and pending changes. I usually edit using TOR browser, in case that effects anything. The last request I made too early because I was incorrect about the amount of time my account had existed. I'm a recent changes patroller. I've read the policy on vandalism, the basic content policies, the basic legal policy, and the guideline on reviewing. As of recently, I have rollback rights. Cadddr (talk) 00:34, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Rollback

User:Phlogiston Enthusiast

Hello! I am Phlogiston Enthusiast. I would like a moment of your time to request rollback rights. I believe that I could use rollback permissions to assist in anti-vandalism in the recent changes tab. There are multiple reasons for this. For one, it would streamline reverts on articles that need them, and be a useful tool against vandalism. This is because if a user is making edits of a vandalistic nature, they are likely to have made multiple. Rollback would assist with these issues and prevent long and drawn-out revert wars by vandals. Second, I believe that I meet the qualifications for the role. I possess experience patrolling the recent changes section, and have reverted many vandalous edits. If need be, I can attempt to provide a comprehensive list of the articles on which I have combatted vandalism. Finally, I understand that it looks bad to have had two arguments over vandalism-related subjects in the past. However, I would argue that this is almost the opposite, as having a clean record with no mistakes would mean that I had no mistakes to learn from, and as well I have apologized to all parties involved in both. In summary, I believe that I should possess rollback rights as to better combat vandalism, and if need be there can be elaboration. If not, I completely understand.

Ammending: this was written roughly a month ago. I was told that I would need one month's experience more before I should re-apply. I have since aqquired more than this. I have been the cause for scores of blocks and have better since de-vandalized the Wiki. Following my embarrasing mishap recently reguarding confusion over the tool, I have better researched it and now believe I would be more fit to utilize this. After doing both again today I'm up to 1093. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 16:25, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) That isn't really relevant to rollback though; admins will check your edits when they review this, and reverts and counter-vandalism is what matters for rollback. HurricaneZetaC 16:40, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
Okay, sorry. Just trying to say I understand to an extent what does and does not break syntax. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 16:51, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
Also worth ammending is that it would provide access to interceptor, which is a useful tool I believe I could do a great deal of antivandalism with in a way that is more efficient than the typical recent changes page. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 18:33, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
Also of note: I am now a Pending Changes Reviewer. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 14:49, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) Phlogiston Enthusiast, an admin will review the needed information. I don't see how a lot of these notes are relevant to rollback; pending changes requires some overlapping skills with rollback (such as the ability to effectively determine what is vandalism), but it is an entirely different right for good reason, and does require different skills. Rollback's primary purpose is to assist with recent changes patrolling. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 21:53, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
Okay, sorry. Just trying to put everything on the table here. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 02:25, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
Adding comment so it is clear this is still open and so it doesn't get archived from inactivity. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 16:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Not to sound picky, just wanted to make sure two weeks of inactivity and lack of approval/denial wouldn't make this stagnate and die. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 19:21, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

User:Theeverywhereperson

I would like to renew my rollback rights, because I have been using AntiVandal constructively, and the same other reasons as my most recent request. Theeverywhereperson talk here 11:14, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

Namely:
  1. I am a recent changes patroller and have been patrolling for a few months now,
  2. I have made more than 700 edits in mainspace and more than 1700 edits in total,
  3. Since I am already a pending changes reviewer, I am also used to reverting vandalism in some areas where it isn't visible to everyone yet, so I think I am trained for the job,
  4. This would allow me to use tools like AntiVandal to revert vandalism easier and faster, for the benefit of Wikipedia as a whole.

I've started reverting vandalism edits, with a pattern of revert, warning the user, and reporting to AIV if they have a history of vandalism and the warn is severe. Another user notified me on my talk page that I might find rollback useful, and it looks like it would definitely speed up reverting repeat offenders that were never reverted.
