Note: If you happen to have issues with me, try to be a little gentle. I have several mental conditions that make me a little...bad with conflict.

I also understand that I sometimes "edit spam" a bit as I can sometimes be a little sloppy with editing and get overexcited seeing something be completed. I'm working on it, promise!

Hi! I'm a Welsh-Jewish transwoman with interests in language, linguistics, politics, and reptiles. I'm also interested in Celtic and Chinese history, which I'll occasionally make edits about.

Prevalent Shang diviners...

  • Huang (diviner) - A diviner who served Di Xin, known for having an extremely mature writing style.
  • He (diviner) - A diviner who headed a significant group
  • Bin (diviner) - A diviner who worked with Nan and Zheng.
  • Zhu (diviner) - A diviner whose bones were used as exemplars for budding scribes.
  • Yong (diviner) - A diviner known for their more mature style that influenced Huang, also served Di Yi and Di Xin in particular.

There's more of them, but these are the most important!

Editing Principles

  • Respect all people, including those who are ancient. It does not matter if a person died in the Iron Age or recently, they should be respected and treated as real thinkers. It is easy for us to imagine them as barbarians, but anthropology shows they were not!
  • A language should be able to explain itself. I like to ensure that wikis of closeness to the language an individual would have spoken has an article of similar to equal quality to the original. For example, an article on Shang Jia should exist on the Literary Chinese Wikipedia. No ifs, no buts.
  • Names of individuals should be detailed so to ensure respect. Every Chinese name infobox should therefore include the following at minimum:
    • Mandarin w/ Pinyin, Bopomofo, and Wades Giles;
    • Cantonese, ideally Jyutping
    • Middle and Old Chinese
      • Include Shanghainese at a stretch!
  • Wikisource should be utilised for pubdom references where possible, so to ensure the source is fully accountable to the public.

Stomping grounds

Pages I've made

  • Wang Hai of Shang - A king of Predynastic Shang who was mentioned in posthumous texts and received a great many sacrifices from his descendents.
  • Wang Gen of Shang - Wang Hai's successor who frequently gets misnamed due to posthumous accounts composing it wrong. Graagh!
  • Cao Yu of Shang - A king who probably didn't even exist tbh
  • Ming of Shang - The father of an ancestral deity who is in an identity crisis. Also he drowned in a river.
  • Zheng (diviner) - This guy cooked so many Mauremys sinensis plastrons. Over 800! Also I had one of those as a pet once. Captive bred, needless to say! Her name was Kamoebas. She's repopulating her species in a sanctuary now.
  • Bao Yi of Shang - A historical ruler of Predynastic Shang who began the Three Baos that would be worshipped by the Shang people.
  • Bao Bing of Shang - Bao, but two.
  • Bao Ding of Shang - Bao, but three. I want to say more but there isn't much info on this bunch other than the weirdness with their names.
  • Shi Ren of Shang - Predynastic ruler who formed a duo with Shi Gui.
  • Shi Gui of Shang - The illustrious father of Tang of Shang whose name was so important, that no one else was allowed to use 癸 as their Heavenly Stem again!
  • Kong Chuan - A descendent of Confucius who debated Gongsun Long.
  • Yin Wen - A logician of the School of Names who laid the groundwork for Gongsun Long's philosophy.
  • Five Character Mirror - A Ming dynasty primer based on the 17 Histories of the time.
  • Xuanniao - A strange bird mentioned in myriad classical texts. It's either a swallow or something special, we don't know. Also it took several weeks to write.
  • Nan (diviner) - Most prominent Shang diviner and one of the most interesting for sure!
  • Peng (diviner) - Student-turned-diviner!
  • Zhong Hui (Shang dynasty) - Yi Yin's contemporary.

Translations

Pages I've spent considerable time on

These are pages I've spent significant time editing, usually with really large edits that fundamentally rewrite the pages.

  • Hundred Flowers Campaign - Previously really bare, added lots of details on various aspects of the campaign.
  • Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den - Not just a meme! It's a tour de force in linguistics!
  • One-syllable article - A very obscure literary genre with ample possibilities!
  • Loushan Pass - One of Mao Zedong's most famous poems.
  • A Book from the Sky - Did you know this has some characters that were actually identified as real?
  • Tarleton Perry Crawford - Previously having problems with notability, now a real article about forerunning sinolinguist. If only he wasn't insane.
  • Maimonides' rule - This wasn't actually made by Rambam!
  • King Hui of Wei - From a page that was really bare and focused on his reign to a more complicated depiction of King Hui's character through his philosophical discussions.
  • Di Xin - New name, modern narrative. Very complex ruler.
  • Xiang Tu - From a...strangely written page, to a progenitor of chariot technology!
  • Predynastic Shang - This needed a lot of work after making tons of pages on its rulers!
  • Tang of Shang - First ruler of the Shang dynasty.
  • Yi Yin - Minister for Tang of Shang and widely analysed by Chinese philosophers.
  • Lin Xin - Guy who did nothing and has an identity crisis
  • King Wu of Zhou - Before I started editing this legit had a shitty sample signature on it lmao
  • King Xuan of Zhou - Very important king mentioned in bronzeware who was left behind for 14 years!
  • Battle of Mingtiao - Previously very incomplete...
  • Battle of Muye - Updated with archaeology and a more modern narrative on Di Xin.
