In the tradition of Nikolaus Pevsner’s pioneering survey work, I concentrate on listed buildings, with particular emphasis on photographic recording. While lists of Grade I and Grade II* buildings are generally complete, coverage of Grade II listed buildings remains uneven, with many parish-level lists yet to be compiled. Using data made available by Historic England, the missing lists are being assembled to provide complete coverage of all three grades within each parish or non-parished area. The classification follows statutory definitions: Grade I buildings are of exceptional interest. Grade II* buildings are particularly important buildings of more than special interest. Grade II buildings are of special interest.
The overall list for the parishes and non parished areas within a district or unitary authority can be retrieved online from Historic England.
Here are the lists I created so far.
Listed buildings by county
When navigating down to district and parish level, red links indicate that a list of listed buildings does not yet exist for that area.
Note: Some lists may not appear because they have been split into multiple pages, or the page title does not follow the standard naming convention: Listed buildings in Parish (including the county name optionally for clarity).

Approach for building listed building lists
Download all datasets of listed buildings from Historic England
"Listed Building Points". National Heritage List for England, NHLE. Historic England. 9 January 2026. Retrieved 10 January 2026.
This dataset provides the list entry number, list entry name, and national grid reference for all listed buildings.
Get Wikidata information
Select the Wikidata QID, Historic England list entry number, and Commons category. The Commons category can be used to locate images; image selection should be done manually.
SELECT ?qid ?listedBuildingID ?commonscat WHERE {
?item wdt:P1216 ?listedBuildingID .
BIND(STRAFTER(STR(?item), "entity/") AS ?qid)
OPTIONAL { ?item wdt:P373 ?commonscat . }
}
Get parish data
For each parish, select data from:
"Historic England search link for listed buildings in England". Search the National Heritage List for England. Historic England. 10 January 2026. Retrieved 13 January 2026.
Select the parish in the Location section. Large parishes may require splitting the list into portions of 1,000 entries. This can be achieved by applying additional selection criteria such as grade or date listed.
Extract the list entry number and location, and merge this data with the results from the previous steps.
Extract address from location
Using a Python script, it is possible to extract the street name and house number from the location field. The object description is often repeated in the address and must be removed.
Convert coordinates
Convert National Grid References to latitude and longitude.
Populate the template
Use the existing templates English Heritage listed building header and English Heritage listed building row to build the list.
Always set show_notes to yes to allow the addition of entry-specific citations, such as references to Pevsner or tree-ring dating reports.
