So, the tenure of a post holder (chief/prime minister) ends on the same day his successor takes oath. It should be like this

• John 1 January 2020 — 1 January 2021
• Jane 1 January 2021 — 1 January 2022

But many official government websites of state legislative assembly list wrong information and list it like this

• John 1 January 2020 — 31 December 2020
• Jane 1 January 2021 — 31 December 2022

Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly website does this on it's Ex chief ministers page. Chhattisgarh page goes one step further and lists like this

• Ajit Jogi 1 November 2000 — 5 December 2003
• Raman Singh 7 December 2003 — whatever

This error was transferred to Wikipedia by me (I'm sorry) and I still haven't corrected it. Jagran Josh has published a correct list. Also, this error was probably just a typo because the website reports Raman Singh's term ending correctly.

There's also a problem I haven't resolved. Raman Singh's second term starts on 12 December (according to official website). So, his first term ends on 12 December or 11 December? If I count it ending on 12, it'll be counted twice in his term length. Should I go for the approach used on list of presidents of the United States and just not the start and end date of total serving time instead of listing each term separately?
