Hi, may I just give you some tips on how to make a new biog article that is secure from the offset, rather than going through notability issues and AfDs? We all know that the articles you create satisfy all of the criteria, but at first glance they may not appear like it. As an example, have a look at how, in half an hour, I turned that into this, which I'm sure is now more than safe.

Let's take Jim Andrew as an example (as Johnlp has mentioned it already). Articles need the subject of the article in bold at the first mention, usually the first words or early in the first sentence. All full dates, such as birth and death dates need to be fully linked, by putting the day and month in one link 29 May and the year in another 1937. This is so user-set preferences can display dates as they would like. (You can do this by going to 'my preferences' at the top every page). You are really good at including references, although they just follow the punctuation and not a space. Like this,^[1] and not this^[2] or this. ^[3]

You also need to link to the basic relevant articles such as English, cricket+er, First-class cricket, List A cricket. Try to include the type of player, batsman, bowler, opener, all-rounder, off-spin and such if possible too. When linking to the clubs played against for example, piped links usually suffice: [[Kent County Cricket Club|Kent]]. Any other cricket terms that come up ([[innings#Cricket|innings]], not out etc. can all be linked at the first instance.

For someone like Andrew, who is obviously not a batsman, don't focus on details such as the high-scores, as they are not great, rather focus on the positives, like the impressive 5/8 you mention. You can duplicate information from the infobox, such as the dates he played for Gloucestershire. If, like Trevor Anning he only just reaches notability, try to expand these as much as possible, linking to the competition for example, and how well he did against top-class opponents.

While I'm talking about the infobox, you can shorten the teams played for to Gloucestershire, and include the date range (1959–1972, using   to separate them. Also check the dates for the references (day and month go together, year is separate) and place "CricketArchive" after the url. You can include details about the first and last First-class and List A matches they played, using

Only use the onetype1 fields if they only played a single FC or List A match. I think for the articles you are writing, the reference section just needs {{reflist}} rather than the three column version used for larger articles.

For the basic text, do read through what you have written to make sure it makes sense and reads well (the use of to instead of too), the repetition of also in the last sentence, repetition of "came when playing for Gloucestershire against" (who else did he play for?, consider "was against/came against" as alternatives), the starting of a sentence after a reference with "and" (don't forget you can use commas!). While I think about it, you should include a stub tag and the syntax for the categories is:

As an example of the things I mean, I would consider starting Jim Andrew with:

Frederick James "Jim" Andrew (born 29 May 1937 in Southmead, Bristol, died 14 July 1996, Barbados) was an English cricketer who played exclusively for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club. A fast-medium bowler, he made his first-class debut against Middlesex in 1959. He also played two List A matches in the Gillette Cup in 1966.

Andrew was always regarded as a bowler; in both forms of the game, he failed to score more than six runs in an innings. However, he did score 29 against Worcestershire Second XI for Gloucestershire Second XI, for whom he took 111 wickets in 55 matches.^[4]

His finest first-class appearance was against Kent in May 1962, when he took 5 wickets for just 8 runs in the Kent first innings. Andrew played his last first-class match in 1963, but was a regular of the Second XI until 1965, played in the 1966 Gillette Cup, and played three further Second XI matches in 1968, 1969 and 1972. He ended his career having taken 57 first-class wickets at a respectable average of 23.96.^[5]

I've not included all of your text in here, but just had a quick look at how it could be improved. Everything that is present can be gleaned from the CricketArchive material, without it seeming like a list of facts/stats. Sounds like a good idea in theory, yep. And if you have to disappear to sleep or something like that, and I'm still around and on Wiki, then I can easily fill in a couple of articles in terms of the autobiographical side, and you can then fill them in with the infobox.

So long as you put some kind of {{expand}} tag on while you're creating them, then if I expand them and remove the tag, and insert a stub tag if necessary, that sounds like a good way to work around it. Bobo. 15:09, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Normally I do use Cricket Archive for statistics, and Cricinfo for actual information on the cricketers if and when they are available. Glamorgan's players are easy to fill in articles about - because they have mini biographies on Cricket Archive as it is, and I have a complete list of Glamorgan cricketers on my sandbox if you fancy a look. Thank you for offering to do the infoboxes. Yes, this seems like a good idea to go through the lists and knock them off one at a time. We can take some of the redlinks in my Sandbox and gradually create articles and infoboxes for them - depending on whether you or I get there first.

Please keep in mind, however, that this is unnecessary for Yorkshire, as, I believe, there is an article on every Yorkshire cricketer from the outset of the County Championship to the present day. Bobo. 16:01, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much. If you need any help with creating them or you get bored in some way halfway through... you can do it at your own pace. If you look at my sandbox and you see a bunch of bluelinked names without infoboxes, feel free to create them - particularly those from the lists that I split between 1945 and the present day for each of the teams.

For example, 197 players made their debuts for Derbyshire between 1946 and 2004 - if you see any on the list of bluelinks on the page that are without infoboxes, feel free to complete these. Of course, some of the cricketers made more appearances than others.

Similarly, between 1992 and 2004, there were 99 players who made their debuts for Durham — I'm sure most of these have infoboxes, but for those that don't, creating these would be quite useful. Naturally, having had a longer first-class history, there are significantly more Kent players missing, and there are a large amount of Lancashire players who do not yet have articles.

Put more at length, Guillermo and Linda have articles despite not impacting land because they were Category 5 hurricanes, and Linda is the most intense Pacific hurricane ever. Paka and Pauline have articles because their names were retired (it is Wikiproject policy to do so. Rick and Nora have articles because of their unusual natures (Rick was a strong November hurricane, and Nora brought gale-force winds to the Continental United States). Hey 02, welcome back. Nice to see you again. If there are any Bangladeshi cricketers that still have not had their articles added, please provide me with the names so that I am able to start work on them - you appear to have created rather a lot.

When you finish a bunch of English first-class cricketers, either from the list on my Sandbox (please make sure you look them up on Cricket archive first to see if I've made any mistakes), please message me back, I'm interested to see the order in which you do things, which ones you create and whether you do them in some kind of chronological order, or the order which requires you to do the least amount of legwork (which, let's be honest, would be my preferred way of doing things. :D).

A useful place to start, for example, would be from Alfred Young (cricketer) and upwards on the list of Kent cricketers on my sandbox (all players below made their debuts in seasons prior to the start of the County Championship. Indeed, it sounds like a good plan to do them in alphabetical order. I started writing an article about William Abbott, the first cricketer alphabetically who played for Surrey, see the complete list of Surrey cricketers beginning with A here, and compare it with the list here. From the twenty-four who have played, we appear to only have twelve.

The lists of cricketers on my sandbox are indeed complete lists going as far back as the team's debut first-class/County Championship match. These range from 1992 (Durham) to around 1801 (Kent). Bobo. 02:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Cool. I'm just looking through some recent articles you've created. Nice to see you working on some early Kent players and some Hampshire players. I remember when I started working on Derbyshire, there were only around 100 of their players added from around 540 total - there are now only ten missing from after the outbreak of the Second World War. Of course I remember you! I'm glad you're back editing. I'd be happy to help you with the articles, I see that you've been discussing a plan with others, the trick is to be systematic and accurate. The American kids who do new page patrols are keen to delete anything they're not familiar with so having a link to the right page on cricinfo or cricket archive is really important right from the first edit, an edit summary telling them that first class cricketers are notable helps too! I completed all the Yorkshire players and all the England Women test cricketers but I know there's plenty to do on all the counties. If I were you I'd concentrate on players who played after the formation of the county championship, to avoid annoying debates about notability. Keep in touch with people on the cricket project page, you may find people with lists of players still to do there, as well as people who can help copy edit and so forth. It's better to do five good ones a day then ten bad ones! Well done on all the Bangladesh boys by the way, it was a thankless task. Pity they're getting stuffed at the moment in Australia! Hi there. Sometime soon I'm going to start working on Pakistani cricketers - but so many Pakistani cricketers have the same exact names that sometime I'm going to need your help to disambiguate individual names.

If you can help me with that, I'll show you a bunch of names we need to get to work on. Within the last 20 minutes or so, I have created User:Bobo192/Sialkot - but many of these names are duplicated with several other cricketers - for example, Inam-ul-Haq refers to five different players, as listed here.

Another example is Aamer Wasim, whose name appears on Cricinfo as Amir Waseem. We need to be extra careful with these and include redirects one way or another. Bobo. 01:05, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello 02blythed, and thanks for creating the cricketer articles. One small thing that's wrong with most of them though, is that you usually create the article, such as Zahir abrahim, with the surname in lowercase. In this case, "abrahim" should be capitalised: "Abrahim". I'll move this article now, but you'll save other editors the extra work of having to move all your articles if you check the spelling when creating. Thanks! Hi there, I've noticed you've recently been creating a lot of new articles about cricketers. To be blunt, the articles you've created are very poor in quality. Most of them are only one sentence long, and that sentence generally has multiple errors in capitalisation or punctuation. Even in some article titles you haven't used capital letters appropriately. In this article you stated that the article's subject was 140 years old! Rather than continuing to produce such short articles, it would be best to concentrate on one article at a time, and attempt to make it as informative as possible. A single-sentence article that just states "XXXX is a cricketer" is no use to readers. I and several other editors have been cleaning up after you, but if you keep mindlessly creating low-quality articles, people will give up trying to help and they will just be deleted. Hi. Further to this, I've taken the liberty of working up the article you recently created on Christopher Abrams - which I chose more or less at random. If you look at what I've done it's fairly simple as there are very few sources that are usable. In particular I've gotten the name of the team right and linked to it as well as linking to first-class cricket. I've added a little to the infobox and streamlined it a bit as well - nothing major, although I am surprised that you missed his middle name originally. By using CricketArchive and CricInfo I've been able to introduce two sources which, given that the article is about a living person, is actually really quite important.

It might be possible to find other sources for him. I suspect that we might be able to figure out his school and I think he's probably at university in Pretoria, but there aren't decent sources to link to this stuff. I'm going through orphaned articles from February 2009. Quite a few are made by you and are biographies of living persons. These require multiple, reliable references. As many of these articles are so sparse on content it is difficult to assess whether they pass cricket notability guidelines. They've been around for quite a while so I think a mass AfD may be inappropriate. Per the draftification procedure, I am moving these articles into your userspace as userspace drafts. A list of them can be found here. Once they've been improved, feel free to move them back to the mainspace.

Building a web of pages is important on Wikipedia so information can be found easily. For example, one of the pages I'm going to draftify is RN Abhyankar. It says he plays for Vidarbha cricket team but does not mention him either there or on the list of Vidarbha cricketers. Either way,a independent, reliable sources are thin on the ground.

Just a note to other users who may object to this bold action: there is a precedent for poorly referenced BLP stubs being draftified en masse, for example in the Sander.v.Ginkel case and the Xfactor1234 case.
