Question from Ellis7125 (21:21, 17 February 2025)

hi, am I able to create a new page? --Ellis7125 (talk) 21:21, 17 February 2025 (UTC) Hello @Ellis7125, creating a new article is a complicated process. Before creating your first article, you should learn editing and rules of Wikipedia and complete smaller tasks at the Task Center.

First, is the subject you are editing closely related to yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, financial or other relationships (having a conflict of interest or COI)? If so, see my standard COI advice.

Before creating a new article, you must make sure that the subject is notable enough for inclusion. Text on Wikipedia must be cited by reliable sources so that information is verifiable. Also, an article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing, as you don't "own" what you write on Wikipedia.

When you're ready to create a new article, go to Help:Your first article, which will guide you through creating a new article. You should go through the entire page before proceeding to the Article Wizard. After creating a new article draft, it will be reviewed by an Articles for creation volunteer. Be patient; there are currently 3,388 pending submissions, and they are not reviewed in any specific order. In the meantime, you might want to do some basic copyediting so that the article is more likely to be approved. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 03:14, 18 February 2025 (UTC) (edited 03:20, 18 February 2025 (UTC): link to standard advice; transclusion is weird)

Question from WildRabbitOnField (00:19, 22 February 2025)

Hello, I believe that an article stating the facts of a specific landmark ruling made by the European Court of Human rights (ECHR) has been deleted from Wikipedia . The article is purely factual and covers the details of a landmark ruling by the European court of human rights. Is there any way that we can undelete it or recreate it? Thanks. --WildRabbitOnField (talk) 00:19, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello @WildRabbitOnField and welcome to Wikipedia! First, I recommend you to follow the Wikipedia tutorial.
Do you have the article's title? I need that to check the article's deletion log. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 00:36, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
hello and thanks for your fast reply. The name of the article and also of the ruling is:
Demopoulos & others v Turkey
I'm fairly sure it did exist on Wikipedia many years ago. I seem to recall the article said it was a landmark ruling and quoted the court as saying "effective domestic remedy" when describing an entity called the 'immovable property commission' within the article. WildRabbitOnField (talk) 00:53, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
WildRabbitOnField (talk) 01:29, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
WildRabbitOnField (talk) 01:30, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Hello @WildRabbitOnField: Not an admin, so can't look at the page. I couldn't find the article using the Wikipedia search page, so I'll give some general advice: Articles are deleted per the deletion policy. There are many reasons why an article could be deleted (PROD, notability) that I don't have time to explain here. There are undeletion processes (refund and deletion review), but are only used for procedural errors, not merely because you disagree with the deletion, but they can only be used if you have the exact title. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 02:09, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Hello, which page couldn't you look at and which one couldn't you find? WildRabbitOnField (talk) 13:11, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
I'll ask someone else to help me WildRabbitOnField (talk) 13:15, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
@WildRabbitOnField: That would be the article that you mentioned. Not really an expert at finding old deleted articles; only thing found on wiki was an old ANI discussion (collapsed), so it was probably (not definitely; no definite logs found for the pages) a speedy deletion or an expired PROD.
As for Xenides-Arestis v. Turkey that you mentioned on User talk:Expatkiwi, I found Judiciary of Northern Cyprus containing the name of the case. Other than that, there's nothing else I could find (including logs). @Expatkiwi will likely not be able to help, considering they have not edited in over 10 years. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 17:22, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. WildRabbitOnField (talk) 17:48, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Qrzydlo (21:08, 23 February 2025)

Hi! On this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chega_(political_party), I spotted that the link on a name was created for some minor far-right 21st century politician leading to the 18th Century Architect https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo%C3%A3o_Antunes. It was done through the double square brackets João Antunes. I removed the square brackets. Is this correct way of removing links to wrong places on Wikipedia? Or shall I do it something else?

I don't know how this works. Should I maybe leave the link and mention in the description that this person is a namesake of a famous 18th century architect? - but this does not feel to be relevant at all. At least if these are not equally significant people from the general historical perspective or somehow related. I would understand creation of some link, if both people would be famous, but I'm not sure. A hint on the best practice in this area would help. I have seen few of these types of links in the past. Thank you. --Qrzydlo (talk) 21:08, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mmnnra55 (05:38, 23 April 2025)

Hello Maddy, Sorry to trouble you... I'm not a computer wiz and I'm certainly not an editor in any sense of the word. I was a little bored and poking around on YouTube. I came across a video about the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris France. That prompted me to look it up on Wikipedia. The Wikipedia article has a construction start date of January 28th. This is not true, the tower construction started on January 26th. This is probably just a type error. I would like to correct it to the proper date January 26th is there any way you can help me? Best Regards --Mmnnra55 (talk) 05:38, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nurse Becky on China–Oman relations (06:25, 27 April 2025)

How do I create citations --Nurse Becky (talk) 06:25, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

@Nurse Becky: Welcome to Wikipedia! The most basic reference code looks like <ref>https://example.com/url/index.html</ref>, but you might want to use citation templates like CS1. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for the citation guideline. I recommend you start with the Wikipedia introduction, which includes referencing. —2NumForIce (speak|edits) 11:32, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Wikimedia Apps newsletter – Second quarter of 2025

Hello, and welcome to the second newsletter of 2025! In this edition, we’ll walk you through exciting experiments, features, and improvements that took place in the Wikipedia mobile apps during March, April, and May.

iOS

Tabbed Browsing Work Begins

Tabbed browsing is one of the most requested features, and we’ve made major progress this quarter:

Activity Tab Experiment

We launched a 30-day experiment on Chinese, French, Spanish, and Turkish Wikipedias to explore whether a centralized "Activity" space could increase user engagement.

The experiment shows the Suggested Edit “Add an image” feature to newcomers, and we hope to learn if it helps them activate and begin editing. We also hope to learn what users think about an early “Activity tab” prototype that summarizes their weekly editing, reading, and saving activity.

We’ll evaluate outcomes after 30 days.

Personalized Wikipedia Year in Review

We began backend improvements to support the next version of the Year in Review:

  • The 2024 version showed strong engagement. We’re planning to integrate improved stats, collective movement insights, and recognition for donors.
  • We added support for insights about reading time, link follows, and categories.

Navigation Refresh & Article Search A/B Test

We completed our test of a more prominent article search bar on four Wikipedias—French, Arabic, German, and Japanese.

  • The A/B test showed a +23.8% increase in article-view search usage.
  • While retention didn't shift significantly, the test gave us confidence to scale this UI improvement to all languages.

Temporary Accounts Support

We released support for Temporary Accounts to Wikipedias where the feature is currently enabled. This helps protect IP addresses of unregistered editors.

Bug Fixes & Enhancements

Thanks to internal and volunteer efforts, we resolved:

  • Incorrect date formats on Talk pages
  • Alt Text keyboard overlap
  • Inactive cursor on search
  • Broken insert-link suggestions

Android

WikiGames & WikiTrivia Expansion

We expanded WikiGames and continued work on WikiTrivia:

  • New enhancements: game archive, calendar view, score sharing, sound control to the game.
  • 81.5% of players complete the game, and over half replay it on another day.
  • Bug fixes include language mismatches and game crashes.

Jetpack Compose Migration

We continued migrating our UI to Jetpack Compose, including:

  • MessageCardView
  • LangLinksActivity
  • SearchEmptyView
  • WikiCardView and more

This helps modernize the app and improves long-term performance.

Rabbit Holes & Personalized Reading Lists

We completed our Rabbit Holes experiment, and began work on a permanent version of Personalized Reading Lists, tracked in this Epic ticket.

Early designs aim to make suggested reading lists more useful, personalizable, and persistent.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

We addressed:

  • Talk page crashes
  • Search-related language issues
  • OATHAuth hyperlink bug
  • On This Day incorrect year
  • Samsung Galaxy S25 editing toolbar bug
  • UI bugs with Picture of the Day
  • Language display issues

Other Updates

  • A 50-edit requirement was added to use Article Descriptions on English Wikipedia.
  • We fixed pageview analytics and updated reading list icons.

Looking Ahead

From long-requested features like tabbed browsing to smarter personalization and more engaging games, this quarter was packed with progress. Your feedback continues to guide our path forward.

Make sure you’re subscribed to this newsletter to stay in the loop — and thank you for being part of the journey!
