Try setting Dark Reader to Dynamic. Is Filter inverting the emojis‽ In fact you could probably turn Dark Reader off since MediaWiki now has its own dark mode selected from the Appearance menu, which for some reason is accessed through the incognito-goggles button. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:37, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
I don't have Dark Reader installed (I assume you mean this thing right? I use the one at the bottom of Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets with the dark mode toggle gadget. It sucks. Polygnotus (talk) 01:48, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
Ah, I would recommend you use that instead. It's quite good, configurable, and applies to all sites. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:44, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
Ok thanks, I'll give it a try. The CSS thing is not great for various boring reasons. Polygnotus (talk) 23:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

Maybe don't reply to every !vote you disagree with. Trust me, I know how difficult this is. Just allow people to be wrong on the internet, without correcting them? It is madness. Polygnotus (talk) 17:10, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
I see now why the guidelining RfCs are supposed to be on the talk pages: I'm approaching them as if they were talk page discussions, trying to work out concerns with which to improve the article page. I wish there was a peer review stage for proposed guidelines. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
Yeah ,the trick is usually to pretend those things don't exist, and if someone starts lawyering just ignore them or throw mud in their general direction until they stop. Polygnotus (talk) 23:49, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Studiosm123 (09:57, 2 March 2026)

Regarding 3O at Talk:Sangh Parivar#Violation of WP:LABEL in the Lead

Hello! A few days ago, you mentioned that you would be willing to provide a third opinion at Talk:Sangh Parivar#Violation of WP:LABEL in the Lead. I replied and pinged you there, but the notification may not have gone through. Could you please let me know if you’re still able to take a look? — EarthDude (Talk) 09:30, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from The Ghost Orchid (18:34, 8 March 2026)

Note: The Ghost Orchid's mentor MPGuy2824 is away.

Hello. I am learning how to edit Wikipedia and I would like to understand more about reliable sources.

How do editors decide whether a source is reliable enough to use in an article, especially when writing about cultural or social topics?

Thank you. --The Ghost Orchid (talk) 18:34, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

Hey! I actually maintained WP:RSP, so you're asking the right person. For the criteria, you can see WP:PSTS which summarizes the full nooks and crannies of WP:RS. Then, editors discuss and come to a conclusion on whether the source fulfills the criteria, often on WP:RSN. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:34, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Evilmattyg (00:07, 14 March 2026)

Heyo. Quick question for someone with experience, with adding links between articles, is it better to have lots or a "less is more" approach? Thanks in advance! --evilmattyg Why so serious? 00:07, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Hey! It's to just add the links that make sense. See MOS:OL for more information. You don't want consecutive links, you don't want links to things everyone knows, and then you link everything that would add context to the article. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:29, 14 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Fishes3 (18:22, 15 March 2026)

What is more efficient visual editing or source editing? --Fishes3 (talk) 18:22, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

I personally prefer source editing, unless it involves tables, for which VE is much better if it manages to edit it. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:34, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from JHThellusson (14:44, 19 March 2026)

Hi. I’ve spotted errors on a page about Jarndyce versus Jarndyce. I made some comments on a talk page. But this has disappeared. (as I’m related to the family on the page I have a conflict of interest.) So how do I correct the errors (frankly I find the instructions almost incomprehensible). Best --JHThellusson (talk) 14:44, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

Hey! I'm going to refer this to the admins since you do have a deleted edit and I can't see its contents nor why it was deleted; an admin should comment here soon. Usually though you can file edit requests through Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:45, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
JHThellusson Your edit was removed because it was posted to the talk page of a non-existent article; you should have posted to Talk:Jarndyce and Jarndyce. Your conflict of interest is very slight if we're talking about a court case from the 19th century- but I would still do as Aaron suggests and use the edit request wizard to propose changes(just make sure they're for the right article). 331dot (talk) 09:18, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
sadly, I find the function utterly confusing and am unable to use it. there are also errors in the tale of Two Cities entries, too. ~2026-17402-27 (talk) 09:56, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
I could guide you through it. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:17, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
That’s very kind. I’m out at moment for 30 minutes but what is the most convenient or best next step from your perspective? JHThellusson (talk) 12:32, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
I have no idea if this is where I should submit my suggested edits but here goes: Jarndyce versus Jarndyce entry
What do you want to change?
Others have cited the case of Thellusson v Woodford as the real-life basis but though it related to the will of a man who died in 1797 the suit was not actually filed until after the book was published.
Why?
The first Thellusson suit was filed in 1798, shortly after the will was read. In a judgement of 1799, Lord Loughborough, the Master in Chancery, declared the will legal but ‘unkind and so illiberal’[1]. (The legality of the will was reconfirmed in 1805). In 1800, Parliament passed the 1800 Accumulations [Thellusson] Act[2]. The Thellussons set off on a 60-year legal battle which engaged 100 lawyers and generated 950 court orders and 750 Chancery reports[3].  To suggest the book was published prior to the suit being filed is simply incorrect. Bleak House was serialised starting March 1852. By implication the Thellusson case is diminished when it is far more likely than other cases cited here namely Wedderburn vs Wedderburn and Sir George Downing. The editor has confused the original case filed in 1797 with the final litigation filed 1856 which was to determine who inherited the Thellusson Trust when it was wound up. This was decided in June 1859 in favour of Charles August Sabine and Frederick William Thellusson.  In fact, as the piece in the Washington Post[4] shows, there is other evidence to suggest Dickens knew the Thellusson family and may even have reported on the 1833 Thellusson Act, while a Parliamentary reporter.[5]

Question from Tonsly (17:10, 24 March 2026)

Hi, how do i create a citation with multiple dates, for example march 7 1946, august 31 1947 etc... on one file? --Tonsly (talk) 17:10, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

Hey there. What is this document that has multiple dates? Aaron Liu (talk) 17:30, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
conversation transcript that has like 4 conversations from multiple years with the same person Tonsly (talk) 19:33, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
i tried to post the link but it kept giving an error Tonsly (talk) 19:34, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
Put the date the document/transcript itself was published; if you can't find that, then the date of the one conversation you're citing, maybe. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:41, 25 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from JaredMcKenzie (08:58, 26 March 2026)

Hey Aaron. Since my block, I have strived to do the right thing and want to continue to be productive on wiki. Perhaps I am over interpreting something but I always had a fear someone may pretend to be me to get me indefinitely blocked. Could be a co-incidence but a new account (after I had a heated edit dispute over Matcha) now oddly emerge suddenly and is very busy in less than a day - and just happen to copy my favourite phrases like ("add context" and "address elephant in the room") and also add info I personally requested. It could be nothing and maybe I am just particularly reactive today but I don't want to make any real moves to report them before seeking trusted advice first. BTW I am not stupid enough to try to break my block as it's impossible to restore my edits without others noticing. But a person pretending to be me, wouldn't care if it's stupid as they would want me blocked. Maybe I am over reading something that could all be innocuous and getting worried over nothing. But as my mentor, I hope you can give me the best way to proceed. JaredMcKenzie (talk) 08:58, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

I think if you didn't do it, you should be fine. Certain admins have special powers to check the IP addresses of accounts so they can make sure whether it's the same person if need be. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:41, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Hope so. It used to be when people anonymously edited like I once did, everyone can publicly see their IP address. If I was able to see their IP address as Africa, or Europe or middle east then I won't need to worry. As no way that could be pinned on me. Unfortunately new accounts no longer show IP address so I don't know if they live in the same country/city as me, and that kinda worries me a bit. JaredMcKenzie (talk) 15:03, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Actually it's better now that their IP addresses are hidden, since when they were exposed, said special admins would refuse to check whether an IP and user are the same person since that would basically tell the world what the user's IP is. Rest assured that admins will not false positive. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:37, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
But then again, I checked their edits via content closely and they overstate a few things that I would never personally do. As my understanding is that any declaration of separation got to be clear and it's irrelevant if there are mixed unofficial signals. Yet they are muddying the understanding (last second half) as if official separation probably occurs now but my reliable sources explicitly say that did not occur as a universally agreed fact. Although it can be stated in general that the new constitutional arrangements tend towards greater separation, it is difficult to regard them as an unequivocal declaration of separation. The territory of mainland China is not treated as ‘foreign’ territory and, according to the Constitution, the State of China has a ‘free area’ and a ‘mainland area. Hence if they are deliberately pretending to be me with the aim to get me blocked, they are doing a poor job behavioral wise as they are acting opposite of me in a very critical piece. If I were to include such a fringe interpretation, I would at least give attribution and not overstate it as if it's constitutional or universally accepted legal facts; as they are NOT. And balance with the opposing view. So we differ greatly on that aspect. JaredMcKenzie (talk) 15:08, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
You don't need to worry. It looks like an overzealous new user to me. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:37, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
