About Hutchison China Meditech article
Hello, @AllyD:! I noticed your warning about posting my articles on Hutchison China Meditech and Hutchison MediPharma being a COI (Conflict of Interest). Please don't misinterpret my intentions!!! I am not hired or paid by the either companies to post these articles. I am merely a student who has gained an interest in the growing pharmaceutical industry in China. I decided to post articles of Hutchison China Meditech ans well as Hutchison MediPharma purely out of the my own interest. I believe that Hutchison China Meditech may very well be on the rise to being a major player in the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, and I merely wish that others interested in this company for the same or other reasons have access to a wikipedia page containing public information regarding the company. I hope that my wikipedia page will prove to be a more convenient option of learning about Hutchison China Meditech.

Hi. Thanks for your review and suggestions. I also notice that qTrace and qTest eXplorer should be merged but as a new wiki user I'm not too sure how to do it. For the qTest eXplorer page it is a renamed product so I feel it should be mentioned since qTrace no longer exists, yet the secondary sources for qTest eXplorer are not that many. Any suggestions on how can I re-write (or merge) the two articles and remove those tags?
For the proposed deletion of qTest. It's a major product of a company, there are lots of products in same category that have wiki pages, with length at that short, so I don't know why qTest got restricted. I tried to include only historic data and relevant information that someone of interest would want to know about qTest. I also tried to include some secondary sources as possible... Not too sure how to best write article as such since I made no attempt of advertising or so...
It will be much appreciated to let me know. Thank you. Tea Nguyen (talk) 3:30, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Regarding speedy delete of Onarbor page
Hi AllyD, I created the page, Onarbor, and would like to fix it such that it will be acceptable to be published on Wikipedia. Onarbor.com is my website and company. Our business model is based off of Kickstarter that is why I used Kickstarter's wiki page as a guide to developing our wiki page. I apologize for cutting and pasting kickstarter's page in order to create Onarbor's page. I took a break from finishing Onarbor's page before removing the blatant copyrighting without realizing that Wikipedia editors would delete it so quickly before I had a chance to finalize it. My sincere apologies, this is the 1st wikipedia page I've ever created. I've re-submitted the Onarbor page to address the copyrighting. I've removed all references that were Kickstarter-specific and changed the sentence-structure and wording to be unique to Onarbor. Hopefully this will be more in line with Wikipedia's policies. Again, I'm truly sorry about this. Thank you,

Interview invitation from a Wikipedia researcher in University of Minnesota
Hello AllyD,
I am Bowen Yu, a Ph.D. student from GroupLens Research at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Currently, we are undertaking a study about turnover (editors leaving and joining) in WikiProjects within Wikipedia. We are trying to understand the effects of member turnovers in the WikiProject group, in terms of the group performance and member interaction, with a purpose of learning how to build successful online communities in future. More details about our project can be found on this meta-wiki page.
I would like to invite you for an interview if you are interested in our study and willing to share your experience with us. The interview will be about 30 - 45 minutes via either Skype or Google Hangout. You will receive a $10 gift card as compensation afterwards.
Please reach me at bowen@cs.umn.edu if you are interested or have any questions.
Thank you,
Bowen

Maintenance template removal
Dear AllyD, thank you for the welcoming message. I used to edit and improve Wikipedia pages back in 2013,2014 and 2015. Now, I am back for my favourite hobby. Looking forward to improving more and more pages. I have read what is needed to be done, but unfortunately, cannot see why you put this. Could you be more specific? I have gone through it before deleting the Maintenance template. Checked for grammatical and other mistakes. Thank you for understanding.
New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello AllyD,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello AllyD,

- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello AllyD,

Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).
Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord and #wikimedia-npp connect on IRC.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Question from Cinnamonman (10:19, 22 September 2025)
Hi Ally - Sorry to bug you again. I've been editing a few things recently. Mostly small. Came across my first dead (red) link on a page (3DLT) and thought I might add a stub. Saw there was a previous page that had been deleted, so don't know what the process/convention is here. Added a draft for you to see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Authentise
Let me know if you think that is ok? --Cinnamonman (talk) 10:19, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Articles on companies have specific notability criteria. In the case of Authentise, there was a draft article which was deleted last month, and the contributor is now blocked for promotional editing. For articles about companies, it is always important to declare any connection: see WP:COI.
- Regarding your draft, it looks to me that it would fall under WP:CORPTRIV. AllyD (talk) 19:21, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- Great feedback. That trivial guidance is helpful. I was under the impression that a stub would be more helpful than nothing at all. Is that not the case? If those stubs are limited to an "encyclopedia entry giving an overview of the history of an organization" WP:SUBSTANTIAL ? Cinnamonman (talk) 08:16, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Updated the article a bit to address your feedback. Thanks again! Cinnamonman (talk) 10:03, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- If you think it still needs updating, please lmk. If not, how does one move a draft to published page? or is it as simple as copying it wholesale? I would wait a couple days in any case to see whether my appeal for feedback on the Talk page elicits any further comments. Excited to publish my first article, even if just a stub (probably the right place to start).
- Thanks again for your help! Cinnamonman (talk) 10:21, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry, final comment. I found the link you linked before on articles for creation and know what to do once you have confirmed that the article now addresses your comments. Cinnamonman (talk) 10:24, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- It is better to place a separate subheading for the References (with two "=" on either side), then reflist in double curly brackets on the next linn.
- I am also placing comments in that Talk feedback section. If you do go ahead with this Draft, yit would be reviewed under both the AFC and then the NPP processes. AllyD (talk) 13:06, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. I made some edits but you may still have notabiltiy comments?
- I looked up how to submit to AFC and think I already submitted it by accident... (just pasted subst:submit there and it seems to have submitted). Will withdraw if there are major comments. Cinnamonman (talk) 11:15, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- You asked on the draft article Talk page about the article layout norms; see MOS:LAYOUT, and in particular MOS:LEADCLUTTER for the point about the first sentence. AllyD (talk) 18:31, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from H0ck1ng1803 (22:47, 2 October 2025)
Hi, The wiki page for Burkettsville, OH, has a possible error. It says the post office closed in 1914. My mom tells me the post office was active in the 40's and 50's, and I see it is still active today per link https://tools.usps.com/locations/details/1356368 . How can I fix this? thanks James --H0ck1ng1803 (talk) 22:47, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi H0ck1ng1803, there's several considerations in answering your question. In general, I'd caution about family recollections, as they don't work as sources here - even though they are often correct. Looking at the Burkettsville, Ohio article, though, the reference source on that sentence about the Post Office is quite weak: an archived listing page, whose information may have been only up to 1914 - we can't really tell. My suggestion would be for you to edit the article and delete the bit from the comma to 1914. The reference is then just about the Post Office's foundation date. Question from ChrisMeneses666 on Help:Category (06:34, 5 October 2025)
Magandang Araw AllyD,

(Specifically with mathematical functions and such) --Azure 131 (talk) 16:45, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Azure 131, maybe the best way to check for an already-existing article on a topic is to use the subcategories under Category:Mathematics, for example those gathered in Category:Eponymous functions and look for a name which is plausibly the one you are thinking of. Question from Tresia.D.Eaves (15:21, 20 October 2025)
Hello, maybe I'm misunderstanding what a "Disambiguation" page is for but when I try to add my work for 'The Platinum Rule,' a bot keeps removing it and "correcting" what I say. Can you help me understand why this is happening. I have proof and the copyright for this concept and have written and spoken many times over the past decade on the topic. Thank you, Dr. Tresia D. Eaves (214) 500-5736 --Tresia.D.Eaves (talk) 15:21, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Tresia.D.Eaves: firstly, editing about oneself or one's works falls under Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines.
- Your edit to a disambiguation page was reverted. Such pages are not articles but rather serve to aid a reader to find a particular article that they are seeking. They don't really have substantive content. Your edit didn't provide such orientation to a particular article, and appears to be largely an assertion of copyright, which doesn't belong.
- At some point in the future, some uninvolved person may write an article about your particular work using this term, in which case a disambiguation page entry could become appropriate. AllyD (talk) 04:16, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Personally, I use the Wiki editor, but its syntax does take some learning, so newer editors may prefer using the Visual Editor. Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Question from Theodore Jonnalagadda (23:18, 18 November 2025)

Question from PseudonymD (10:48, 19 November 2025)
Good day, I hope you are well. (the following context is relevant to my question) I am a final year student in South Africa studying for my exam on Afrikaans Literature. In the exam, breakdowns and analysis of the set poetry is required. Would it be reasonable for me to make contributions (in the process of my studying) to the pages of the relevant poets of these notable poetry translations into English. As an example by another person, take the section on "Winternag" on the page of Eugène Marais. Best regards, PD --PseudonymD (talk) 10:48, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi PseudonymD, that is an interesting question. It is good to share one's ongoing research. I think there may be 3 aspects. (1) I had thought an editor's own translation might be prevented as original research but WP:TRANSCRIPTION allows for it. (2) More problematic could be quoting a whole poetic work which remains under Copyright. (3) Then there is interpretive text around a creative work, which also needs care: again, it is important to avoid original research here, so one is restricted to citing others' published interpretations. Because of all these factors I could foresee that other editors reviewing an article change could have other opinions on what precisely can be done here, so the important thing is probably to use the Talk pages to seek consensus if you get any pushback on any change. Question from LightandSalvation (14:15, 25 November 2025)
20 years? Damn, that's a true veteran, anyway I am asking how to make article description suggested edits on either the website or app, for on the app I only see image tags and captions that I don't want to do --LightandSalvation (talk) 14:15, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi LightandSalvation, what I have to show for those 20 years is eyesight problems! Anyway, you asked about Short Descriptions. These can be a bit fraught, with differing opinions about those showing from Wikidata and those held on Wikipedia. I have the Wikipedia app on a tablet somewhere but don't recall using it for editing. Where a Short Description exists it shows ok for wikitext editing on the browser. There is info here which I hope can be useful. AllyD (talk) 11:06, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- LightandSalvation, I see you've already done quite a number of edits. One thing I will mention is that there's usually no need to link both the articles for a place and its country - the first is sufficiently precise and the latter too broad. See MOS:GEOLINK. Question from Cardiowisc (12:03, 5 December 2025)
Hello, I submitted an article titles Richard Langendorf (biography) to be published in Wikipedia but the references were not recognized by Wikipedia. How do I edit it so it can be published? Thanks. --Cardiowisc (talk) 12:03, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Cardiowisc, I was initially puzzled by your message as it preceded your submission of Draft:Richard Langendorf, but I see now that the prior article creation had been while not using a logged-in account. Since your question concerns one article which has already generated Talk page responses, I will respond further there. AllyD (talk) 12:42, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from CEvansWestdale on Westdale Secondary School (06:03, 6 December 2025)
Hi. Charles Evans here. I would like to add Stanley Paul Kutcher (Stan Kutcher in Wikipedia) to the list of Notable Alumni. The reference can be "Stan Kutcher" and linked to his Wikipedia page. The body could be " Canadian Senator and Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University. a Distinguished Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association. He was awarded the Order of Nova Scotia in 2014." This is copied from his Wikipedia page. FYI, I was a friend of Stan at Westdale. Same year. We were on the track and football teams together. Stan is also in the Westdale Hall of Fame. I think he should be included in Notable Alumni. Many thanks. --CEvansWestdale (talk) 06:03, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi CEvansWestdale, Stan Kutcher does see a reasonable addition to the list under Westdale Secondary School#Notable alumni. One thing, though: it will need a reference, and from a quick look at his CV it starts with post-school education. So can you locate a source (newspaper, etc) which mentions Kutcher attending Westdale? This may seem a bit weird, as you have the personal knowledge of Kutcher's school life, plus there are others in that list without a reference, but anything concerning a living person needs special care on Wikipedia. AllyD (talk) 07:52, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- once you have a reference, you have two possible steps: (1) add it yourself to the alphabetic list at Westdale Secondary School#Notable alumni, or (2) open a topic at Talk:Westdale Secondary School with your suggested text (as in your message to me above). That could also be a way to ask if anyone else can find a reference. AllyD (talk) 07:58, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Understood. After his appointment, a local newspaper The Hamilton Spectator published an article stating Stan Kutcher was appointed to the Canadian Senate and was a graduate of Westdale Secondary School. December 17, 2018 "Hamilton's Stan Kutcher, an adolescent mental health expert, has been named to the Senate". "is a graduate of Westdale Secondary School and McMaster University" . I have a screen shot that I can send but don't see how I can attach. CEvansWestdale (talk) 08:07, 6 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Lior123456 (08:04, 8 December 2025)
how do i make an article --Lior123456 (talk) 08:04, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Lior123456, commencing editing by creating a new article is rarely for the best. Better to start with, for example, WP:TWA to familiarise yourself in practice. That said, I see you have already created Draft:International Scroggin Day. Your challenge will be to identify and provide references to demonstrate that it is notable if, as the text says, there is "limited coverage in mainstream media". Question from Clarababy (02:10, 16 December 2025)
Hello, how can I add image to my background information --Clarababy (talk) 02:10, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Clarababy, there is a guide to uploading and using images here. Regarding your Draft:Amanam Joe, I suggest looking at the tone and content of biographical articles here, as the points made in Pythoncoder's initial rejection remain relevant. And it seems likely that draft article is about yourself? If so, please read WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY. AllyD (talk) 03:13, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- I also suggest reading WP:MUSICBIO for details on notability here. And in this edit why did you try to remove someone else's name and replace it with Amanam Joe? AllyD (talk) 03:35, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from TheNerdy Parakeet (00:53, 20 December 2025)
- Note: TheNerdy Parakeet's mentor MuffinHunter0 is away.
Hello! I had a question about wikitables and how to edit those since I wanted to add entries to one but couldn't figure it out. How do those work? --TheNerdy Parakeet (talk) 00:53, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi TheNerdy Parakeet, tables are certainly one of the most awkward features to work with. There is an introduction at Help:Wikitable. The best way is usually to copy-paste a previous row (after identifying where its separators begin/end - not always easy!), preview it, and then edit the addition from there, and preview again. I noticed you are editing on Mobile, as I generally am these days, and the editing experience can be tortuous - plenty potential for fat-finger over-reach when trying to copy-paste parts of a table. The preview is the closest to a safety net. AllyD (talk) 05:08, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Question from LegoYoda edits wiki (03:12, 24 December 2025)
Hello, you are my mentor, and I have a question for you. I am very new to editing Wikipedia and was wondering what to do with the "citation needed" if you confirm the information is correct. Do you simply delete the citation needed link? --LegoYoda edits wiki (talk) 03:13, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi LegoYoda edits wiki, I think you are working on various introductory editing tasks at the moment. A citation needed would usually need to be replaced with a specific 3rd party reference - see WP:REFB. This is even if you know from personal experience that the sentence in the article is correct, which can be frustrating, but the fact that another editor has asked for a citation indicates some dubiety that needs to be answered. AllyD (talk) 04:16, 24 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from IAmMrP on Dmitry Glukhovsky (01:23, 26 December 2025)
Hello! Can you help me with how to expand a short article? --IAmMrP (talk) 01:23, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi IAmMrP, looking at this article, there are probably two paths for expanding it: (1) using information that you identify in press articles about the subject, and (2) using information and references translated from the ru:Глуховский, Дмитрий Алексеевич article. It is important to bear in mind the biographies of living persons requirement that any statement that is added needs a verifiable reference. Sometimes other Wikipedias can be a bit vague with their references, but this Russian one looks ok with its reference coverage. However, you do need to check that any source does actually support the statement being referenced. So it can be laborious - probably best to go one step at a time. Question from Factchecker677 (15:24, 1 January 2026)
Hello, I have attempted to edit an article multiple times and have been stopped by a user named magnolia677. It's an article about a fire department that is incorrect and they keep undoing the edit how do I solve this issue --Factchecker677 (talk) 15:24, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Factchecker677, presumably you are referring to the temp. account edits to Paris,_Illinois#Fire_districts earlier, before you created your account. I can see why the change was reverted, as it was unreferenced. Even when a previous text was unreferenced, when we replace it, there is a need to meet current standards by including references. I see you included references in your most recent change; a couple of comments: (1) it is best to include formatted reference information, such as title, site name, so that if the URL later disappears, people may be able to find what it was and where it went, and (2) Fandom isn't a great source as it is a user-written wiki. AllyD (talk) 19:09, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Sisigegg (12:55, 3 January 2026)
Hello!! if for example there's a message on an article saying it has a promotional tone or something like that, and I edit the sentences to remove the promotional feel, can I already remove the message? If other editors still think the article sounds promotional, will they put the message back? and could i get a warning for that? and also please give me like some link policies that i could read. --Sisigegg (talk) 12:55, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Sisigegg, promotional wording can be in the eye of the beholder. Personally, after removing / rephrasing the likely promotional text, I would check the edit history and talk page of the article in case any other specific concerns had been raised, then do an edit to remove the tag with an edit summary like "removing tag as promotional content is gone now, but please replace if you think there is more to be done". And if someone does replace it, then open a talk page discussion rather than re-removing the tag. AllyD (talk) 13:18, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
Question from WK18331918 (15:26, 8 January 2026)
I have been editing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoke_Park,_Guildford
I'm confused because the first reference in the published version after my edit is numbered 3 in the main text. However, the "references " section shows references 1 & 2 (which do not appear in the main text).
When I re-checked in 'edit' mode footnote '3' appears correctly as footnote 1.
Not sure what's happened here, or how I can correct it.
Thanks --WK18331918 (talk) 15:26, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi WK18331918, the references are numbered sequentially when a page is being displayed, and in this case there are two references for Owned by andAdministered by in the Infobox which, though they appear further down the screen are actually preceding the first paragraph of the article text. (If you see what I mean!) AllyD (talk) 19:22, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- Since you asked that question, however, I see that Murgatroyd49 reverted your edits, so that is also worth commenting on. Zooming out (and never having been to Guildford), I'd say this seems to be a matter of what Budgett acquired in 1879 and what the Corporation acquired in 1925 and from whom. The existing source for the "lung of the town" statement looks weak (lacking a page) but is nonetheless a published reference, so I can see that to remove that would need an at least equivalent source, hence the revert. The reference source you added a few minutes later can support Budgett's purchase but that would leave open the question of who possessed what to sell or donate in 1925. I'd suggest opening a topic on Talk:Stoke Park, Guildford where you and other editors can seek consensus and sources for what can reasonably be said about the purchase. AllyD (talk) 19:24, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for your help. I have opened the Talk and explained why I wanted to make the changes. As for your point re who had what to sell and donate, the land was entirely owned by Budgett by 1925, but it is a bit complex. That could be explained in a revamped history section. The problem is I am looking a primary archive sources (in the Surrey History Centre), which I could quote, but it seems only online sources are acceptable - which in the case of SP are generally of poor quality. Question from Sneglelakk (21:01, 21 January 2026)
Hello. I just made a minor change to the page on 'Ring strain' where a only single paragraph used double spacings after periods, so I changed them to single spacings purely for consistency. Was this the right call? It looked a bit prettier as double spacings, but i thought maybe consistency was a standard here. Thanks --Sneglelakk (talk) 21:01, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Sneglelakk, that should be fine with single space. Sometimes people import paragraphs with double space between sentences - possibly people like me who grew up with a typewriter and Gestetner sheet as the cutting edge of technology! A couple of situation where it is better to stick with the style of what's already in an article are date formats (dmy or my or ymd) and reference styles. AllyD (talk) 21:34, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from JoshuaParadeGuy (15:58, 4 February 2026)
There is this page https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rana_(clan) Which is being vandalised repeatedly by many unwanted community members make it appropriate to their history I’ve provided ample amount of sources and citation and they keep of changing it to Gujjar even though that name/title(RANA) belongs to aristocratic Rajput families of Haryana and Punjab now they’ve made that page protected with help of their community member admin please can you look into this --JoshuaParadeGuy (talk) 15:58, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi JoshuaParadeGuy, a couple of points upfront: (1) I am not an admin., simply a volunteer mentor for new users editing on English Wikipedia, (2) even if I was, Simple English Wikipedia is a separate project, with its own admins, with its own norms. Looking at the history, I am guessing you were the Temporary Account whose edits to that article were reverted. If so, reversion edit summaries such as "Ain’t happening kid" don't really help achieve consensus. The best place to resolve consensus is on the article Talk Page, where Ravensfire has pointed to issues of reliable sourcing and notability. AllyD (talk) 21:39, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping on this, AllyD! I've left JoshuaParadaGuy a welcome message and since the pages involved are covered by Wikipedia:Contentious topics/South Asia, I've pointed them there, did the required notice and left a message with some more information that I'm hoping will help. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 23:13, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- I don’t really know that editor that is someone named Jadon guy I’m only for the Haryana (Tanwar) part here JoshuaParadeGuy (talk) 02:57, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- JoshuaParadeGuy, I don't understand your comment above, but it seems to be about another editor rather than a question about editing here. If so, it is really best not to comment about other editors on Wikipedia.
- You also tried to delete this entire discussion from my user talk page. It is ok to delete discussions from one's own talk page (as you have been doing, though I hope you have taken on board the comments and link from Ravensfire there), but it is disruptive to refactor others' talk pages in this way. Question from Lapped7892 on Pride (13:53, 8 February 2026)
Hello AllyD, I hope all is well.
While making edits on an article ("Pride"), I came across an aside in an opening paragraph I felt was unnecessary. Rather than removing the sentence, I added an "Invisible Comment" at the end of it.
Is this approach useful and visible to other editors? Is there a better mechanism for opening a discussion around an edit? Thank you! --Lapped7892 (talk) 13:53, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Lapped7892, firstly, Pride seems to me a poor article, due to it trying to blend currents of quite distinct usages across different times and places. I notice someone on its Talk page doubted that it should remain as a single article. Leaving that aside to focus on the matter of commentary, invisible in-text comments can be useful to avoid to-and-fro edits on differing UK/US singular/plural grammar (example in 1st sentence) or in terms that look like common word typos (2nd paragraph here). They are less useful for opening a discussion towards a consensus about whether to include or remove text, for which the article Talk page is better. AllyD (talk) 08:53, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Spreadsheet Nerd (20:58, 13 February 2026)
Hi, AllyD, thank you for making yourself available as my mentor! Quick question on "list of people" type articles: What is the preferred format for those articles—to separate the people's names into one section for each letter, or to group them into sections covering multiple letters? For example, this article is organized by single letters: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African-American_writers But this article is organized by groups of letters: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mystery_writers Does it have to do with the overall total number of people in the list? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer! --Spreadsheet Nerd (talk) 20:58, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Spreadsheet Nerd, consolidating (A-D etc) would usually be a choice by the person creating the list, based on the list being short so that alpha headings would look distracting. If/when a list grows, as long as alphabetic order has been maintained (which it surprisingly often isn't), it is simple to break out into individual alpha headings. AllyD (talk) 21:22, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- That makes sense, thank you! Spreadsheet Nerd (talk) 21:31, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
Question from I TheScholar I (16:16, 14 February 2026)
Hi Ally,
I have been adding hyperlinks and now realize I was editing incorrectly after comparing two different articles. I emailed Nikkimaria and informed her of this. I realized that instead of adding two square brackets before and after the word, I needed to follow the specific editing structure. E.g. for the film genre drama, I now understand that the editing should be "drama film"
Not so much a question as it is an introduction to myself. I will only edit on Wikipedia very rarely and sporadically. --I TheScholar I (talk) 16:16, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi I TheScholar I, linking using a "|" to separate the actual article link target from the text in a current article is very non-intuitive and all of us will have stumbled over that in early editing, so nothing to worry about there. AllyD (talk) 21:52, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- I think I'll depart at the early editing stage. It is hugely disheartening to see a veteran editor reverting my edits which I did under AGF. I do not want to enter into a dispute with any veteran user and my intention was only to add missing hyperlinks! I TheScholar I (talk) 12:12, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
- I TheScholar I, genres can be a minefield. Hyperlinks should be a way of getting a deeper understanding of a term, but some of these composite film genre terms don't, I feel, when they redirect to articles which barely mention the term. Were I closer to these film types, I might try to open Talk page discussion proposing better ways to understand the terms. But as it stands, I understand your frustration. I hope that other kinds of article improvements will occur to you. AllyD (talk) 18:46, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

PDF link or source not coming correctly asking for Journal Requirements
Hi, I am unable to add this link in the right way in the Shahjahanabad article.
Can you help me fix the link in the right way so that I can learn from that? I removed this link from the article after it was not coming in the correct way. Wikipedian reader 1234567 (talk) 05:07, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Wikipedian reader 1234567, it is definitely the right thing to do, fixing or reverting an edit when the result looks weird. In this case, looking at this edit version, there were 3 issues: (1) the overall "cite journal" needs to be wrapped in a
<ref>...</ref>pair; (2) the access-date was 17/Feb/2026 which isn't a recognised format - 17 February 2026 is better; (3) line returns in the title and the quote: Rejuvenation of then Shahjahanabad on another line in the title, then again between "Old City" and of Delhi in the quote. (Copy-paste from a PDF often does this kind of thing). Adjusting these clears the red errors in the edit preview. AllyD (talk) 09:12, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
Question from Mayen ndu john (10:23, 20 February 2026)
Hello, pls how can I update my profile on here? --Mayen ndu john (talk) 10:23, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Mayen ndu john, Wikipedia isn't a place for writing about yourself. That would fall under Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Editors can create a User Page, but the information appropriate there is limited to being about this project: see WP:UP. AllyD (talk) 10:50, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Question from MrCuccu (15:44, 20 February 2026)
Hi, I have a new entry for Wikipedia. It's about Multisensorial Learning at School. It's based on published scientific researches and real experiences. How should I proceed to have it published? Thanks. --MrCuccu (talk) 15:44, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi MrCuccu, there's going to be several parts/stages to this reply. Firstly, I would always recommend becoming familiar with editing existing articles before creating a new article. Secondly, if looking to create an article, I recommend looking at existing articles in the topic area and considering how it fits and whether it should stand as a distinct article (as Wikipedia is uncomfortable with "orphan" articles). Thirdly, if you go ahead, (a) you can use this for the draft, and (b) be sure to follow WP:DISCLOSE if you have any external connection on the topic. The draft will then be considered through this process. AllyD (talk) 21:58, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Question from MrCuccu (15:43, 22 February 2026)
Hi, can you have a look at the article and tell me how I can improve the editing? Thanks a lot. Roberto --MrCuccu (talk) 15:43, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- MrCuccu, from a look at User:MrCuccu/sandbox, it would be fine on, for example a personal site or blog, but it is a long way from the style guide here. This is why my first recommendation above was to gain familiarity with the structures of existing articles. (Rather than wade through the manual of style, it may help to review the Learning styles article as an example from a not-distant topic.) The key issues would be (1) structural, (2) voice, as there is some we-voice text, and some content comes close to suggesting settings, and (3) referencing. The English Wikipedia is firm on every assertion needing a 3rd party reference, which can be quite an effort to add through a text. AllyD (talk) 18:25, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, I have searched any previous entries on the same topic and there is only one, called Multisensory Learning. It is about the different theories about learning, but there is no practical example of how to implement this approach in schools. That is the difference between that entry and the possible contribution of the article I propose, that is oriented in applying multisensorial learning in practice, being aware of challenges. Anyway, if you are not interested in this contribution, just let me know. Roberto MrCuccu (talk) 15:24, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
- MrCuccu, that Multisensory learning article seems a good example of the Wikipedia approach to a topic. It delineates its scope, then goes into discussing research in the field, with some differing viewpoints - while supporting what is said with references out to published works. There are a couple of points where further references might be beneficial, but broadly it seems to cover the ground. (If you are aware of more studies that should be covered in the article, that is an editing opportunity.) What it isn't doing is providing a how-to guide, which is problematic in any field. AllyD (talk) 11:29, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hello again, if you have an intellectual interest in the topic, that entry Multisensory Learning can be orientating. But if you put yourself in the shoes of a teacher, a parent or a teenager, they can’t find any guidelines to improve learning. They need practical examples of what to do and what not to do. So, if you think that it is better to keep the topic on a theoretical level, that’s OK. I can drop the request to publish this new entry on Multisensorial Learning in Practice. If you have second thoughts, just let me know. MrCuccu (talk) 13:27, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, as I have not received a reply to the question I posed in my last message, should I have to interpret it as you have no words to say about the choice I presented? Anyway, if there is no answer to my question in a few days I will delete the proposal for a new entry. ~2026-15688-30 (talk) 07:45, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- The key points were in the links I provided in my earlier replies, particularly in my 18:25, 22 February 2026 reply. You haven't adjusted the draft since then, such as to change the we-voice or add inline references. The biggest concern, though, is appropriateness here, which is why I twice linked to WP:NOTHOWTO in my comments above. AllyD (talk) 22:29, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Well, I think it is not the right idea for me to publish this article in Wikipedia. I've published several books on learning and many scientific articles to help people understand the working of the learning mind.
- Thanks for you suggestions, but let's call it a day.
- Mrcuccu ~2026-15688-30 (talk) 16:31, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Randyahobbs (00:29, 24 February 2026)
I created a sandbox article -- but it looks like I may have a sourcing problem. Can you recommend options? --Randyahobbs (talk) 00:29, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Randyahobbs, looking at your edit history, at the point when you asked this question, the Draft:Flalingo had superscripts rather than references, as you had copy-pasted the text from whichever app had created it. I see you subsequently added the references it had intended. I am also placing a notice on your Talk page - it contains important advice. AllyD (talk) 07:47, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Question from Darryl.Kerkeslager (13:52, 24 February 2026)
- Note: Darryl.Kerkeslager's mentor Jenhawk777 is away.
Hello. I just completed a draft biography article about W Baxter Perkinson, Jr, and was notified that it would be reviewed before publishing. I thought I had done the requisite number of edits? I've already published an article on a novel, and it was available immediately. Can you tell me why this is different? --Darryl.Kerkeslager (talk) 13:52, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Darryl.Kerkeslager, you created The Clone (novel) on 4th February directly in main space, which is fair enough - it can still be reviewed by a New Page Reviewer, which can trigger other actions. Earlier today you created Draft:W. Baxter Perkinson, Jr. Using the article wizard and the Articles for Creation process, which uses Draft space and an explicit process of comment and approval. AllyD (talk) 15:15, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. It was not my intention to put it through the review process … is it too late to change that? Not that I think the article is perfect, but I am confident it meets the standards for notability, has adequate references, does not have conflicts of interest, remuneration or bias - the basics. Darryl.Kerkeslager (talk) 15:47, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Okay, I found a link to Wikipedia:Moving_a_page#How_to_move_a_page, but is that 'acceptable'? Darryl.Kerkeslager (talk) 15:52, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Darryl.Kerkeslager, you can indeed move the draft page. Looking at it, I didn't suggest that in this case, as it does strike me that the subject is certainly locally prominent but this doesn't always translate into notability here. There is a balance, so getting an AFC reviewer's opinion will be no bad thing in assessing that. AllyD (talk) 16:07, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from SUPER SALTS (15:45, 24 February 2026)
I am the Club secretary for Epsom & Ewell Football club I was asked to update our page as somebody has been adding lots of stuff from a unofficial one a so called Supporters one the pages appears to be locked how do we get back control of our club page? Thanks Spence --SUPER SALTS (talk) 15:45, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- SUPER SALTS, firstly I have to point out that there is no ownership of Wikipedia pages by the parties to the article topic. The Epsom & Ewell F.C. page has been protected, but even if it hadn't, the correct process for anyone involved to propose changes is to use this process on Talk:Epsom & Ewell F.C.. Question from Taterraster (12:42, 5 March 2026)
I want to create a Wikipedia article for my programming language --Taterraster (talk) 12:42, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Taterraster, firstly Wikipedia requires coverage in reliable 3rd party sources to demonstrate attained notability. And secondly, nobody with a direct involvement should create an article on a topic. AllyD (talk) 19:30, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Question from Tuvgan on Category:Executed revolutionaries (18:39, 5 March 2026)
How can I add more names on this article? --Tuvgan (talk) 18:39, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Tuvgan, it looks like you answered the question yourself with your next edit. However (1) you misspelt the category added to Mahir Çayan as Executed Revolutioniers so it won't show up in the category list, and (b) you added the category in the middle of the article: categories usually come at the end. Question from TheRedArc (09:13, 8 March 2026)
I want to create a page about my website on wikipedia, how do I do that? --TheRedArc (talk) 09:13, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- TheRedArc, it isn't appropriate to create articles about yourself or projects you are associated with: I am placing the standard explanation about this on your Talk page. In addition, any new article needs to show its notability using reliable 3rd party coverage. AllyD (talk) 09:54, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Question from Simeon Mezie Cole on User:Simeon Mezie Cole/sandbox (19:14, 8 March 2026)
Hello! How do I properly add a citation to a fact in an article? For example, if I want to add info about Monrovia from a Liberian news site. • What are the best ways to make my first small edit without getting reverted? I’m practicing in my sandbox. • How can I upload a photo I took in Monrovia to Wikimedia Commons and add it to a Wikipedia article? --Simeon Mezie Cole (talk) 19:14, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Simeon Mezie Cole, you've asked several questions there. I'll approach them one-by-one. So, sarting from the last one, about photo handling, see this page which covers the process for uploading an image and then adding it to an article (for which this page provides more detail about placing an image on the page). AllyD (talk) 22:18, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- Your second question was about making small edits without being reverted. You mention that you are practicing in your sandbox, but I am not seeing anything there which can be checked. Another approach is to use this course to get started in small steps. AllyD (talk) 22:21, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
