Mark has passed away.

Sharing a Eulogy with permission from Mark's partner. I've removed parts to comply with WP:OUTING, but there was more to this.

Mark was an amazing artist, a passionate researcher and writer (especially genealogy), cook, gardner, avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed traveling. He recently discovered a love of cooking, and enjoyed making lasagne especially for his neighbors.
Mark will be dearly missed by his beloved lifelong partner of 37 years. They enjoyed many adventures together and especially loved traveling. Mark also loved his dogs Zeus and Loki, and they were important members of his family.
Mark was proud of his Hawaiian heritage and descended from the formal Kamehameha family from the Royal Court of Kamehameha III.
A celebration of life will be held later in Hawaii.

  • Mark, precious in the early days, and missed --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:31, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Mark had a kind of boundless enthusiasm and energy for life that was unmatched. An older version of his page said that he was an artist who enjoyed working in oils on canvas and had also worked in theatre for 25 years as a performer, stage tech, property designer, costume designer, and on set construction and design. I first became aware of Mark in 2007 on the Ed Ricketts and Pacific Biological Laboratories articles. Mark's photo of the PBL building, which he donated to Wikipedia as File:Pacific Biological Laboratories, exterior 2016.jpg, still remains one of the finest photos on the subject to date. Thank you Mark, for donating your work to Wikipedia and the world. Viriditas (talk) 00:10, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
  • A username I knew well, though we didn't cross paths much. It's always sad to lose a fellow Wikipedian. Graham87 (talk) 05:05, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
  • I've used the eulogy above for a starting point on an obituary for the deceased Wikipedians page. Any changes/additions would be appreciated there. Graham87 (talk) 05:40, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Mark was instrumental in the earliest days (late 2012) of the Editor of the Week award. He was known as User Amadscientist back then and was an integral participant in the creation discussions for Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention. The awards and banners that I still use stem from his creativity. Buster Seven Talk (UTC) 06:49, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Rest in peace, Mark. Miniapolis 23:23, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
  • I am very saddened to read about Mark's passing. I don't think we interacted much, but I hugely admired his major contributions to WikiProject Hawaiʻi and Hawaiʻi-related articles, and I really appreciate how important his connection to Hawaiʻi was. He will truly be missed. Aoi (青い) (talk) 03:25, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

  • Ah Mark Miller--we used to hang together. He was delightful company. I will miss him. All my best to his partner: I'm sure there's a life-size Mark-shaped hole that's not easy to fill. Drmies (talk) 22:44, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
