A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
I like your edits on the Harborplace page and the shopping center categories you created. Keep it up! Asiess835 (talk) 19:15, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
I appreciate it. I try my hardest to make sure mall articles are up to date. Aspifi (talk) 20:58, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Interesting WP limitation

I just saw a technical nit at Inner Harbor, and I'm not sure how best to work around it. The situation is that no article is allowed to have two identical section-titles. The "Attractions" and "Defunct attractions" have parallel structure and matching titles for their subsections (both have a "Museums", etc.). Maybe the subsections in the "Defunct" section could be prefixed with "Defunct"? It's redundant to title the subsection "Defunct museums", but it does solve the problem. DMacks (talk) 03:09, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

I think it's better to merge it rather than put "Defunct" on the same items. Will work on that right now. Aspifi (talk) 03:12, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick fix! DMacks (talk) 04:19, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Quincy Market

Hi there, I noticed that you were rewriting part of the Faneuil Hall Marketplace article in your sandbox. I'm actually rewriting the entire article in my sandbox, coincidentally enough, and I've added the ownership information that you're also adding in your own sandbox. Just to give you a heads-up so we don't conflict with each other. Epicgenius (talk) 00:21, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

The entire article? I thought there was only problems with the Faneuil Hall Marketplace section, as it doesn't go in depth enough about its complete history or decline. But thanks for the notice. Aspifi (talk) 00:26, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
No problem. Yep... there are a lot of design details that are missing, as well as details about the 19th and early 20th century history. I'm about 75% done with the rewrite and will likely be done by the weekend. I just wanted to let you know so we don't have a situation where one of us is duplicating the other's efforts. Epicgenius (talk) 00:31, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
I can totally relate. I done rewrites on multiple building articles, particularly Harborplace and Power Plant Live!. They were also missing a lot of info and even inaccurate/irrelevant details. Aspifi (talk) 00:33, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
I can help you with development on the rewriting if needed. I found a source that states Faneuil Hall Marketplace's exact opening date (August 26, 1976). Specifically, this: [1] Aspifi (talk) 14:05, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

It is not a typo; the Pointe literally includes a Marina with that exact name. Aspifi (talk) 11:55, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

One Bellevue Place

The 2008 disestablishment/demolished categories are already on the redirect Bellevue Center. If a mall is rebuilt and renamed, it's generally considered appropriate to redirect the former name and give the redirect the applicable categories, so it doesn't seem like we're saying One Bellevue Place was demolished in 2008. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 14:16, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Oh ok thanks. Did you already revert it? Aspifi (talk) 15:41, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, because the categories are on the Bellevue Center redirect already. I'm trying to check other malls and make sure they're consistent. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 16:00, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
I'm also currently rewriting the Bayside Marketplace article in my sandbox as it's missing a lot of information. While the article is no longer in AfD, I'm trying to keep it that way so it doesn't fall into AfD again. I'm also checking other malls and making sure they're consistent and to an extent, as up to date as possible. Aspifi (talk) 16:03, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Awesome, good work. I feel like Wikipedia has generally gotten more inclusive of shopping mall articles lately, at least ones in the US. A few editors feel the coverage present in most mall articles is "routine" (which nearly impacted Vero Beach Outlets, due to seemingly no one having any interest in acknowledging my WP:HEY work there), but there's a massive consensus otherwise. I can think of mall AFDs dating back several years that closed as "keep" with far fewer sources uncovered than Vero Beach Outlets got.
I remember one editor a while back who went on a mass shopping mall AFD binge and immediately dismissed even Mayfield Mall (which has the unique circumstance of being both one of the earliest known "dead malls" and being turned into offices for Google) or Original Outlet Mall (first outlet mall in a fairly large state) as "routine" and "run of the mill" no matter how many editors said otherwise. They even tried to stall the AFDs by filing a RFC, but that fizzled out quickly. If I recall correctly, every mall they nominated was kept, with several getting the WP:HEY treatment and two eventually becoming GA-class.
Country music and shopping malls are my two specialty areas because I feel they've always been grossly under-represented on Wikipedia, so it's great to see more other editors helping me on those topics. I honestly doubt Bayside Marketplace will be AFD'd a second time, but I will never turn down improvements to an article whose topic interests me. Note

I noticed you unintentionally archived your user talk page in the incorrect namespace, Talk:Aspifi/Archive 1. The Talk namespace is only for article talk pages, not for user talk pages. I have moved the page to User talk:Aspifi/Archive 1. ApexParagon (talk) 16:15, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Ok thanks I will look out for that. Aspifi (talk) 17:18, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

All Landmark Mills Malls

What is the criteria for "All Landmark Mills Malls"? I feel like you're over-categorizing now. All malls developed by Mills are already in their own category, so adding another category for "Landmark" ones doesn't add anything, especially when the concept of "Landmark" isn't mentioned in Mills' article. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 19:27, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

At what point should categorizing be halted? It was for to allow people to find a mall with the name easier without having to go straight to a related page with malls without the Mills name. Aspifi (talk) 19:30, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
Basically, anything that would also be expected of any other building -- developer, architect, current owner, year of opening/closing -- is fine. Previous owners can create category bloat, especially in cases like Adrian Mall which had a rotation of short-lived owners.
All of the malls developed by Mills are already listed on the Mills Corporation page, as well as Category:Shopping malls developed by The Mills Corporation. Ones that they owned despite not developing, such as Briarwood Mall, don't need the categorization because again, it creates category bloat. Also, previous ownership isn't normally a category for other buildings, so it shouldn't be that way for malls either. Only categorize by current owner.
You don't want to create a category with no clear criteria for inclusion. The "landmark" concept isn't mentioned at all on the Mills page nor on the pages of the malls, so it's not clear to a reader which ones are "landmark" malls or why. Also, you don't want to create one that's wholly or almost wholly overlapped by another, so even if "landmark Mills" were a clearly defined criterion, all other Mills malls save for Forest Fair would also be overlapped by the "developed by the Mills Corporation" category. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 19:46, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
So essentially WP:LINKCRISIS but with categories. Aspifi (talk) 19:56, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
That's a way to look at it, yes. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:10, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
I made the category a redirect and emptied it. Aspifi (talk) 20:11, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
If you want something deleted and you were the only editor of it, such as a category, you can place {{db-author}} at the top. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 16:59, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Just to be clear, didn’t you put that Use American English template at the top? 2600 etc (talk) 20:41, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

That was in December 2025. Back then I didn't realize that "u" shouldn't be used in the U.S. but should still be in North America. I'll update the template. Aspifi (talk) 21:53, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
