March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Request reason:

Good Evening, I am writing to request reconsideration of my block. Though I have over 1200+ edits since 2016, I acknowledge that what I engaged in is seen as vandalism, and I want to state clearly that I understand this behavior violated the community’s trust and the project’s standards. I have donated to Wikipedia and Wikipedia Foundation many times over the past decade. Likewise I have expressed full regret for what occurred and I take full responsibility for my actions, and I deeply regret causing disruption. I am humbly asking to be unblocked from community edits. As per Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_Wikipedians_by_number_of_edits) I am above the 99.9 percentile of Wikipedia users by number of edits. Thus I believe that my additions to the community outweigh the drunken block placed upon my 10+ year old account. Beach00 (talk) 00:19, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Decline reason:

An unblock request that smacks of "don't you know who I am?" isn't going to have the effect you intend it to have. The number of times you have donated is utterly irrelevant. The number of edits you have is also irrelevant, as is how long your account has existed. What is relevant is that you went on a spree of disruptive edits, and accused one of the editors reverting you of vandalism. Also drunken block - even if the explanation given in your previous unblock requests (others: see link below) is correct, while I feel sorry for your loss, it doesn't change the fact that you went directly to a hot-button topic to make a known controversial edit as a result, on multiple articles. If you want to be unblocked, you need to give assurances that you will not be editing under the influence again, and you need to do it without tooting your own contribution horn. - The Bushranger One ping only 02:08, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

Note previous unblock requests (which were not processed) and replies to them that were removed by the editor before preparing this one. - The Bushranger One ping only 02:08, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

This is intended for The Bushranger Previous requests for relief from these block restrictions were erased solely due to my uncertainty regarding the appropriate procedure for appeal or further action here. As this circumstance is entirely without precedent in my experience, I find myself in a state of considerable confusion. Lack of ability even edit or reply to others on my own user page compounds this perplexity. Such confusion may, regrettably, give the unintended impression that I seek to obscure or withhold prior information, though that information remains available for review in its original context within my history. In regard to why I should be unblocked from the English language Wikipedia, there certainly was self-congratulatory comments I made about my time contributing to Wikipedia and I know this may not help. I allowed poor judgment to influence my actions, and in doing so, I disrupted our environment of opposition in regard to personal attacks. I want to acknowledge the harm caused, both to the accuracy of the articles and to the trust of the community. I take full responsibility for this lapse in sobriety and intent. Nevertheless I remain sincere in saying that over the years, I have worked carefully to improve entries, cite reliable sources, and help new editors learn the guidelines. Those contributions came from a sober and genuine respect for knowledge. I believe I can continue to provide positive and thoughtful edits, now with greater self-awareness and restraint.
