Oshwah on Xbox Live?

Hey, Just curious. The Xbox account "Oshwah" is you or not? :-) VitorFriboquen :] (Talk) 01:11, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Vitorperrut555 - Oh wow! That's a damn good question! I... actually... don't know. I... might have set the nickname of my XBOX Live account profile (assuming it still exists somewhere) to be "Oshwah" back when I used it. To be honest, I haven't logged into a Microsoft account for the purposes of XBOX or similar gaming for many years! The last time I remember accessing or even using my XBOX Live account was back in 2005 - 2009! No, scratch that... I think I did either create or update an XBOX Live account when I was playing with a family member on their XBOX One S, but that also was at least 1-2 years ago. Either way, it's not an account that I sign into or use often. ;-)
The last XBOX (in fact, the last gaming console) that I've personally owned was an XBOX 360 that was given to me by a friend, and when I was able to hassle Microsoft into sending me a brand new in-box replacement due to the "red ring of death" issues that were happening at the time, I ended up choosing to sell it online and pocket what it sold for. Anyways... I'm totally digressing here! :-) To answer your question: I wouldn't be surprised if the XBOX Live profile that you found is actually me, but - on the other hand - don't be shocked or surprised if it isn't me... Oh, and let me know what you find out, or if there's more information that you can get so I can maybe figure out if it's me or not! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:25, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Assistance with User talk:Tamzin#Trying to regain access to my original Wikipedia account

Hi Oshwah! I was hoping you could help with this conversation, since I am really unsure if my replies are the best advice, or even the correct action to take. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 21:32, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi 45dogs! Long time no chat! I'm glad to see that you're still an active editor on this project and I hope life is treating you well. :-) Sure, I'll take a look right now and I'll add any kind of help to the discussion that I can... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:29, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for helping there! Your explanation seems to line up a lot better with what they seemed to be describing. Thankfully life is treating me well, and Wikipedia has been immensely addicting. I hope things are going well with you IRL, and its good to see you editing :) 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 03:54, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
45dogs - You bet; always happy to help! I'm doing much better compared to 5-6 days ago, when I was forced to be out of commission from Wikipedia and elsewhere due to catching the flu and a nasty cold from someone. I'm finally to that stage in the cold and flu cycle where it's beginning to completely wear off and your body returns back to normal. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can offer any assistance elsewhere, and I'll be happy to take a look! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:04, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
Then I do have a inquiry; I have seen some talk about creating new userrights in order to edit certain fully or highly protected pages, such as ones related to the DYK queue (which are template editor protected) and Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working. Instead of a new userright, would an edit filter work and not cause issues? I was thinking something like 1170 but tailored to each page respectively and set to disallow. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 04:25, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
45dogs - As you become more experienced on Wikipedia and expand your scope of participation into new and wider areas, you're inevitably going to find yourself in situations or discussions over proposals to modify existing MediaWiki features, tools, and functions (such as blocking options, protection levels, user groups and permissions, Wikipedia extensions and tools, and other similar core functionalities), and (in cases where more than one method exists that can be used to accomplish a task or achieve a desired outcome) which feature, tool, or core function should be used. I find myself in that place much more often than I thought I would. :-)
Honestly, your thoughts with, "Hey, why not just create an edit filter over this, since it's easy and quick?" is absolutely not invalid at all, and we do this in similar situations and with other niche pages similar to the locations you mentioned (the QYK queues such as this one, and the category for discussion page). However, we have to understand we'll be digging ourselves deeper into "a hole" where we'll be utilizing a tool and a function that was designed and intended for one purpose (flagging and preventing abusive edits made by bad faith users by matching the edits with regex conditions) and using it for a purpose that it wasn't. Like you said, we're doing this already and with a handful of other abuse filters, and it's worked just fine (to the best of my knowledge). However, is this the correct way to go about this if we were to imagine this on a long-term scale? If you multiply the number of users involved by 10,000, and fast forward 5-6 years in the future, this wouldn't be a great solution at all. The correct solution would be to come to a consensus as a project to implement a user group and a protection level that would be used to control edit access to these locations for this very purpose.
To answer your question: If we're talking about a page that's essential to be controlled by a small number of users, and over a process that involves an extreeeeeemely tiny subset of the entire project when taken into perspective, then sure - that totally does work! Make sure the users who need to edit those pages have access to a trusted user group that's tied to a protection level (such as extended confirmed or similar), protect the pages to that level, and implement an edit filter that will flag, warn, or prevent users that aren't listed in that filter from making the edit. It really all just depends on how large and how significant this requirement, this goal, and this need is when you take the project in its entirety as a whole, how many editors or users are involved with the process or outcome that we're trying to create or achieve, and a lot of other things too (LOL). As the need and the overall impact to the project becomes greater and more significant, the need to discuss this in an appropriate place (like Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) or Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)), come up with the proper tools and methods, and have a proper solution developed, deployed, and implemented also becomes greater.
I know that my response wasn't a "yes, do that" or a "no, don't do that" kind of answer that you may have been looking for, but I hope that it at least provided some thoughts and useful information, and was at least a small bit helpful to you... Let me know if I can answer any more questions, provide any more input or thoughts, or assist with anything else! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:39, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for the response! This longer explanation is probably more helpful than a yes or no answer would have been anyways :)
I do have another question, if you don't mind answering. Do you know how this edit adds 8,382 bytes to Erie Canal? I've been trying to figure it out and I have no idea why. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) (contributions) 19:38, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
45dogs - Ah, that one actually took me a few moments to figure out! I ended up copying the added text from the diff link you sent me and pasted it into Notepad++, which provided me the answer. The diff has +8382 bytes of additional data because the edit added a bunch of zero-width space (Unicode U+200B) and zero-width joiner (Unicode U+200D) characters to the page. These are both Unicode control characters, meaning that they don't actually print anything to the screen (characters that do print to the screen, such as letters and numbers, are called graphic characters). I copied the string of control characters that the edit added, and sure enough - they came out to being 8382 bytes. When I try to copy the same text from the revision (while editing the page), those control characters aren't present. However, if you highlight the text in the diff and copy it, the code characters are present. This makes me believe that there's likely a function within the MediaWiki software's code that removes control characters after the edit is saved and after the changes are examined, parsed, and cataloged into a diff link. This is why you see +8382 bytes (as well as the control characters) in the diff link, but not in the final revision. This is of course 100% speculation on my part. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:33, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Pankesh uikey on Income tax in India (20:21, 3 March 2026)

Question from OOO12321232 (04:09, 4 March 2026)

Hello. I was trying to edit "citation needed" for a video game article about one of my favourite games (Lobotomy Corporation). Specifically, the release date of its sequels. I used the official Steam and Xbox One pages for that. Are they considered reliable sources? (I didn't find them in the list of reliable video game sourcea) --OOO12321232 (talk) 04:09, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi OOO12321232! Welcome to Wikipedia! Those references would be considered primary sources, but for something like the release date of a videogame, I don't see a problem at all with using the official Steam and Xbox One pages to support that information. If anything, another editor is always welcome to add citations to secondary sources if they feel the need to do so, and content can always be improved later. ;-) Please let me know if I can answer any more questions for you, and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:04, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I will ask, if anything else arises! OOO12321232 (talk) 18:14, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
OOO12321232 - No problem; always happy to lend a hand! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:05, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Editfilter for RfCs

Would be cool to have an editfilter that tags pages when {{rfc}} is added and {{rfc}} is removed. That would make it easy to follow the Eventstream and tell people about new RfCs (a bit like User:Polygnotus/Scripts/ExternalLinkMonitor). Polygnotus (talk) 19:08, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Polygnotus! Sure, easy peasy! Here you go! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:35, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, works fine! User:Polygnotus/Scripts/RfCs.js Polygnotus (talk) 00:03, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Polygnotus - No problem; always happy to help! After I initially responded to your message to tell you that I've created a filter for you, I noticed that you were testing the triggering of the filter by adding the {{rfc}} template to Wikipedia:Sandbox! Youuuu trickster, youuu... lol! Yeah, the edit filter probably shouldn't trigger if the template is added to a sandbox page (unless it's a talk page of a sandbox)... I've now updated the filter to exclude pages with "Sandbox" as the title. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:15, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Can you add the "Tag" thing so I can filter on it in the EventStream? Tag the edit in contributions lists and page histories Thanks again, Polygnotus (talk) 00:17, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Polygnotus - Sure;  Done! The tag name is RfC, and you can find it listed on Special:Tags. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:27, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Polygnotus - I noticed this edit that you made to your script in order to fix the ability for hyphenated arguments that are passed to {{rfc}} to be flagged. However, in my testing, your modification to the regex string allows for some malformed versions of {{rfc}} to trigger a positive match. For example: empty arguments that are passed, which is invalid (e.g., {{rfc|}}, {{rfc|abc|}}, {{rfc||abc}}, etc.). You can of course disregard my response here if this doesn't bother you, but if it does - don't let your script do it. I just updated the regex string that I use in the edit filter for detecting the template; if I set the options to match what you currently use in your script's regex string, the string would now be: /\{\{\s*rfc(?:\|\s*[a-zA-Z0-9_-]+(?:\s*[a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)*)*\s*\}\}/i. Let me know your thoughts. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:03, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea, thanks! Polygnotus (talk) 02:15, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Is there a reason why filter ID 4 was used out of all things? The abuse log lists some old entries that aren't related to the addition or removal of RfC templates. Children Will Listen (🐄 talk, 🫘 contribs) 00:37, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
ChildrenWillListen - I thought it would be better to simply dig up and reuse an existing edit filter that's no longer in use (and hasn't been for a very long time) than to create a completely new one and utilize another edit filter ID in the 1000s range. If it becomes unnecessary and no longer used, it can just be deleted again... *shrug* ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:14, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Jcubic (10:53, 5 March 2026)

How to add this photo from Commons commons:File:Dan Simmons.jpg if there is a file with same name in En Wiki (fair use upload)?

Found a photo on Flickr and asked the author to change the license. --jcubic (talk) 10:53, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Jcubic! Welcome to Wikipedia! If the image you'd like to use is hosted on Commons, you'll just include it in the same way as if it were stored here locally. You can refer to this tutorial page for additional help and instructions. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions, and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:30, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
I think that you don't understand. If I put the name of the file, it uses the file from English Wikipedia: File:Dan Simmons.jpg. It's the same file name, and local MediaWiki has precedence. Using the :commons: prefix doesn't work. jcubic (talk) 16:42, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Jcubic - Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding! I'm on my lunch break and editing from my mobile device right now, which is definitely a unique challenge in itself (especially knowing that I'm on the full desktop version of the site). If you're trying to reference an image on Commons with the same file name as a different image hosted here locally, I'm quite certain there's a way to explicitly link the Commons version so that it knows to use that one. I'll need to find a documentation reference about this, as I don't remember on the top of my head how to do this. Calling [[commons:Image name]] (no colon between the "[[" and "commons") doesn't work? That would be how I'd imagine you'd do it... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:03, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Jcubic - Okay, now that I'm home from work and on my workstation rather than my mobile device, I'll be able to figure out the answer to your question here. Let me see what I can find... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:18, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Jcubic - AHA! I was right! Calling c:File:Dan Simmons.jpg ([[c:File:Dan Simmons.jpg]]) links me to the image that's hosted on the Wikimedia Commons (commons: and c: are the prefix codes used in interwiki linking there). Omitting the prefix code and calling File:Dan Simmons.jpg ([[:File:Dan Simmons.jpg]]) links me to the image that's hosted locally on the English Wikipedia. Give it a try and let me know if this is what you're trying to accomplish. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:28, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
The problem is that c: and commons:, that were part of the question, only work as links, not as images. jcubic (talk) 10:32, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
jcubic - Ah, okay. My apologies for making a bad assumption there. I did some digging for you, and I found that an image on Commons cannot be used here if a locally uploaded image has the same filename (according to WP:FNC#9). The only solution in this case would be to rename the local version of the file, which I just finished doing. The new local image file location is now File:Dan Simmons 2002.jpg. Please let me know if this resolves your issue. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:04, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. jcubic (talk) 17:12, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
jcubic - You bet; always happy to lend a hand. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:32, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

I was nearly copying your edit summary

Was it just me or was I literally copying you? Take a look at this edit's edit summary and my edit's edit summary. I think I have either coincided by accident or it was me first, as I guessed the words "Better wording" from memory. - SimpleObjects-9ei (talk) 21:15, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi SimpleObjects-9ei! Ha! That's funny! But hey, with an edit summary so short and to the point, I'd surprised if I didn't eventually use the same edit summary as someone out there! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:34, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Sandbox Problems

Hi, i have made some accidental edits to my sandbox and I would like you to revert all of them, including the 'page created' one. Thank You :) Jonangtibetguy (talk) 15:31, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Jonangtibetguy! I'll be more than happy to help you! I took a look at your sandbox page, and you've made a lot of edits to it! I wouldn't know which revision you'd like me to revert it to for you. However, if you take a look at the edit history of the page, you'll be able to find the revision you want to revert it to and you can actually do it yourself! Give Wikipedia's help page on page histories a look through, and it'll show you how to navigate through past revisions and set it back to an older revision. If you run into any more questions or need more assistance with this, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'll be more than badly to help you with anything that you need! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:47, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
kinda just delete the whole page, i might be a bit dumb for suggesting this but i think a new sandbox will be generated for me. (if not, revert back to before first) Sorry for any inconvenience if this is a stupid thing to guess :) . Jonangtibetguy (talk) 20:09, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Tashi Delek! Jonangtibetguy (talk) 20:12, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Jonangtibetguy - I can certainly do that for you, and yes - you're absolutely able to create the page again after it's been deleted.  Done; your sandbox page has been deleted. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:15, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
many thanks! Jonangtibetguy (talk) 20:17, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Susmifer (01:27, 8 March 2026)

Hi! My primal language is spanish but I know a little of English, how can I translate an article to my language? Can I simply translate it or whatever? Sounds vague but I would love to hear what you can say to me! --Susmifer (talk) 01:27, 8 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Susmifer! Welcome to Wikipedia! I believe the place you're looking for is this Wikipedia page on page translation. It will provide you with information about it, including how translation is performed and how editors can help. Please let me know if you run into any questions while reviewing this page, and I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:52, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Natalievoyages (07:22, 9 March 2026)

Hello, I would like to be able to edit the title of this page. I work for Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia and we have just been bought by another company. We are legally required to remove the word "Indigenous" from our company name. Can you please help me change it to Voyages Tourism Australia? Thanks! Natalie --Natalievoyages (talk) 07:22, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Natalievoyages! Welcome to Wikipedia! Because you have a personal conflict of interest with the article subject (Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia), you should refrain from editing or performing any tasks on the article directly. Instead, I highly recommend adding an edit request to the article's talk page and include sources that support the company purchase and the new company name. Other editors will be able to review your request and take the necessary actions if they deem them to be necessary. Articles titles are essentially renamed by moving the page; you could also create a requested move discussion and suggest the page be moved to the new company name. As with adding edit requests, you'll want to include sources that support the company purchase and the new company name.
Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. These pages will provide you with extremely helpful tutorials, walkthroughs, guides, and interactive lessons that will familiarize you with navigating around the website and where to find everything, important policies and guidelines that you'll need to know, proper etiquette and how different processes on Wikipedia work, as well as teach you how to edit articles, communicate with other users, and find important locations (such as in the event you have questions, need help, or get stuck anywhere). Most users who take this advice, read through these pages, and complete the new user tutorial tell me later that the pages were significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they might've experienced otherwise.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be more than happy to answer them and assist you further. :-) Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:01, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Hello --Bearcet (talk) 10:47, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi Bearcet, and welcome to Wikipedia! If I can answer any questions for you or explain anything that you're confused about, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be more than happy to help! :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:20, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
O yeah. Sir Administrator Sir, I saw a page and read it for a long time. In which there is a discussion on social media. Why did you not add a director? Then after checking, I have come to this conclusion. Indeed, a director has not been added to this page. After a lot of searching, I have added the director to the film. So I request you to inform the other editor of my page. There is no need to make any more changes in it. I have only made my problem. And I will also need your help. I will keep you informed about this film. Thank you! The Woman in Cabin 10 (film) Because the director of this film is actually Farhan Rana Rajpoot. That is why Simon Stone hired him as the director later when more than half of the film was done. Bearcet (talk) 14:44, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Thank you very much for protecting this page! I am very grateful to you. Sir, I have a question for you. If you do not mind. That is, wherever I have worked, I have not received this reward. When I talked to you, you did not immediately reject my words and responded positively. The fact is that the director of this film, Simon Stone, was added at the end because. He wanted to see. How good a director Farhan Rana Rajpoot can be. That is why he decided to hire him as the director of this film. And he was successful. And I want and you know better that he should also have a page. Bearcet (talk) 17:55, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
@OshwahYou can make their page better than me. I will be very grateful to you. Because this is the first experience of my life. With many good wishes to you. You make their page because the director of this film is Farhan Rana.
Bearcet (talk) 17:59, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
@Oshwah Hi. How are you! Steward and Interface Administrator Sir, I have just seen that an attempt has been made to modify this page The Woman in Cabin 10 (film). That is, an attempt is being made to damage Wikipedia policy. I had requested that you protect it. But you did a very good job; it was saved from vandalism. Now violations are being committed again. So you block this user,DoubleCross. I have a big request to you. Thank you Bearcet (talk) 11:38, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

Can you please arbitrate on this

Hello Oshwah, hope you are well and healthy, there is now a slow and unnecessary edit warring on Paštrovići page in which this editor [] started to change the lead of the article by introducing in my opinion parts of the article which are debated and should not be part of the lead. Which I wrote on tp of the article. Since this editor has a history of doing this kind of edit warring i.e. you can see what just recently happened on Siege of Berat (1455) page [] which is now protected. I am asking for you as an admin to arbitrate if possible with this matter since I dont wish to go in further edit warring with them and since this editor didn't start conversation on tp regarding their changes. Thank you and I hope you have a nice week. Theonewithreason (talk) 06:20, 11 March 2026 (UTC)

Szia! Ezenkívül a saját lapomat is szeretném megcsinálni. Örülnék ha tudnál segíteni. Előre is Köszönöm! --Rebuilttheworld (talk) 18:45, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Bossproplays (07:21, 16 March 2026)

Hello. I recently made an edit to an article on Wikipedia that was reverted shortly afterward.

I opened a discussion on the article’s Talk page to ask about the reason for the revert and how the edit should be handled.

Talk page discussion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_football_clubs_by_competitive_honours_won#Question_about_reverted_edit_to_the_%E2%80%9COther_domestic_titles%E2%80%9D_column

I would appreciate any advice on whether the approach I took there is appropriate or if there is a better way to handle situations like this. --Bossproplays (talk) 07:21, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Lemons of Love (01:32, 17 March 2026)

I would like to create a page about Lemons of Love. We are a nonprofit that supports those impacted by cancer. --Lemons of Love (talk) 01:32, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Lemons of Love: Hello and welcome to wikipedia. 1. You will need a new username. Names of orgs are not allowed as usernames. You could for example use the username "John at Lemons of Love. 2. Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. In saying this, I do not want to give the impression that your non profit is not important or that you guys do not do good work. I am simply saying that your time would be better spent by adverting on Facebook or smth. Please read the linked page for more info and reach out if you do have any other questions.
