Yale men's Basketball

All-American basketball player for The Citadel

Hi Billcasey905. I see you're a fan of The Citadel-related articles. Just throwing this idea out there in case you're inclined, but Gary Daniels (basketball) needs an article. He was an AP Honorable Mention All-American in 1962 and will inevitably need his article written. If you have no interest or your queue is too long I understand, but I thought I'd mention it! SportsGuy789 (talk) 00:05, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll add it to my list. I definitely have a lot of projects, but I'll get there. Billcasey905 (talk) 01:17, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
Sounds good, thanks! SportsGuy789 (talk) 04:08, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

Greater Boston League

Hey Bill, While working on Boston College Eagles baseball College World Series appearances, I noticed that BC and a few other teams identify as being part of a "Greater Boston League" that doesn't have it's own Wiki article, nor does it appear in a google search. Plus Harvard appears to be in this "conference" as well as a in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League simultaneously, which only adds to the confusion. Do you think I should create a wiki for it, or should I just leave BC as independent during their World Series years? Here's a link

Thanks, DMC511 (talk) 01:16, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi David, my thought is we should list the conference for teams that were members, but if you're not finding anything on Google there probably isn't enough to create an article for the league at this point. Sounds like something for us to dig into and see if we can find a little more. As for finding multiple conferences, from what I've seen it isn't common, but far from unheard of - the Southern Intercollegiate and Southern had overlapping memberships in the 1920s and 1930s, and more appropriate to the Boston area, many northeastern schools are members of ECAC and at least one other league even today. It makes it hard to untangle sometimes, but we can look at some of the football and basketball pages from the 20s and 30s as a guide for how to handle when we're making season pages. Keep up the great work! Billcasey905 (talk) 13:33, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Stadium Re-namings

Hi Billcasey! I noticed the Clemson stadium was renamed and that you updated all the links. Thank you for that! I was curious what convention was for the 2020 season? At that time it was still the Clemson Softball stadium but should the old links be updated to reflect the new name? Or should the re-direct just be left? Swimmer33 (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Swimmer! Happy to help out. I saw the press and figured it was something I could handle in a few minutes of down time today. I think the standard is to leave the prior name for anything that is specific to a time before the renaming. So, for the 2020 season, it's OK to either leave the redirect or to used a piped link so that you avoid the redirect but still list the prior name. I'm not aware of a strong preference either way. My personal practice is when I'm creating articles for old seasons I use piped links, but I don't go back and change links on previously existing articles when a new name comes out. All the best and thanks for your efforts, particularly with the rankings pages - those are a big help! Billcasey905 (talk) 19:27, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Ok sounds good, I'll just leave the old article like it is then. Happy to help!Swimmer33 (talk) 20:20, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

NCAA Baseball Year-by-year results

I've been updating coaches years on team pages, and I've noticed almost no one updates year-by-year results on individual team pages. I'm proposing that I remove them, or place them on their own page for larger programs. Would you be opposed to this? DMC511 (talk) 14:36, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I think they should be on their own page as a list of seasons, personally. I agree it's a lot to try to keep updated, though. Billcasey905 (talk) 17:07, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

2022 West Coast Conference Baseball Tournament

Please be very careful when submitting collegiate baseball tournament for this year. I had to change the WCC Tournament page because I found a newspaper article saying that the tournament has expanded from 4 teams to 6 teams this year, it has a single elimination first round, and it begins two days earlier.Bigddan11 (talk) 04:44, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Good catch, thanks. I have been digging for that kind of info, and didn't find it when I created it. Billcasey905 (talk) 01:27, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
I found that article about a week after I created the 2022 BYU Cougars baseball team page and have had it listed there every since. That's why I knew about it. Bigddan11 (talk) 15:06, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

1977 NCAA Division II College World Series

Thanks a ton for the assist. It is greatly appreciated. PhillyHarold (talk) 01:14, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

P.S. If the school changed names since 1977, should the current school name or the school name from 1977 be used? Thanks. PhillyHarold (talk) 01:37, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for creating it! It should be the name from 1977. I neglected to check that on most of them, so feel free to fix as your time allows. Billcasey905 (talk) 16:28, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Future tense in articles on past events

See 2022 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball tournament that you created. It still has future tense for an event that happened (presumably) months ago. Are there more such? Do you have a plan/schedule for updating future event articles? Dicklyon (talk) 06:25, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Here's another: 2022 Big South Conference baseball tournament. Dicklyon (talk) 06:31, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Mississippi State Bulldogs claimed baseball titles

Looks odd to count 1918 and 1921 for them, but the school puts it in the media guide. Cake (talk) 04:59, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Softball team page scores

Hi Billycasey. Not sure if you're the correct person to reach out to about this but you are the other softball editor I know. I wanted to get your opinion on the apparent edit war going on over at Clemson Softball page. One user is updating the scores after every single game and an IP address keeps reverting it. Not sure what the official policy is on this but the user does it to several Clemson pages. I mentioned to them that I thought policy was to do it at the end of the season, but that didn't deter the user. When they didn't reply I just let it alone because their edits are correct. Thoughts?

Swimmer33 (talk) 20:19, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Swimmer, sorry for the delayed response, I needed a break for a while. I'm not aware of a consensus on when to update these statistics. My personal feeling is to do it at the end of the season, but there are a number of editors who feel otherwise and update throughout. If there's a consensus on this, it would exist in the college football or college basketball project, and in that case I'd recommend we extend it to softball, baseball, and the other college sports projects. Clemson Baseball 1958 & 1959

My father, Clayton Lowder Jr (Bill Wilhelm nicknamed him “Lil Fella”) was a catcher for Clemson from 1958-1960. I see you helped the page. Do you know any stats from those years? I don’t think he ever started. Daddy always said he was a good catcher but could t hit the curveball. When I met Wilhelm when my father was still alive, coach Wilhelm said my dad was a damn good catch and a great team player. Joswego10 (talk) 04:58, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
