User talk:Bryony Jackson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

Hello, Bryony Jackson, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed in your request for an account at the account creation process that you may have an interest in working on a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, which will be reviewed by other editors. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If a page you create gets deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! --Ahecht (TALK

Incomplete DYK nomination

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Hong Wai Onn at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step III of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 08:47, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your guidance, especially for a newcomer like me. I’ve now completed the required step. I look forward to the review and approval. Bryony Jackson (talk) 13:44, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi, welcome to DYK. Can I recommend using the automated nomination process at Template:DYK nomination header#Instructions for nominators. You click on the blue button "Nominate an article", that opens a form where you add the necessary information, you click submit and then the nomination will be created and added to other pages as required.
For Hong Wai Onn you added the wrong code to the article talk page so it was reversed, I have now added the correct code. TSventon (talk) 14:02, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi there, thank you so much for your guidance.
I tried to nominate by clicking the blue "Nominate an article" button and proceeded to fill in and submit the nomination form. However, after clicking the nomination/submission button, I encountered an error message:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Create_new_nomination?withJS=MediaWiki:DYK-nomination-wizard.js
That said, I noticed that the "Did you know nomination" template is already displayed on the Talk:Hong Wai Onn page. So I’m unsure whether my nomination was actually successful.
Your patience and continued guidance are much appreciated. Bryony Jackson (talk) 05:49, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
I think that the formatting of the nomination is fine, it still needs to be reviewed. I have a couple more questions that I have asked in a separate section below. TSventon (talk) 17:14, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the confirmation. I understand there’s quite a backlog for the review, and I’ll patiently wait for it. Thanks again! Bryony Jackson (talk) 01:28, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
You have by started in Wikipedia by creating a new article with images, which is difficult. I have asked you whether Hong is Wikipedia:notable on the article talk page. And about the photos on this page. TSventon (talk) 13:42, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

The welcome message from Ahecht says that you may have an interest in working on a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Please can you look at Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and confirm whether you do have a COI related to Hong Wai Onn and whether you are being paid to write the article. TSventon (talk) 16:53, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

@TSventon The COI that I flagged did not appear to have a direct link to Hong Wai Onn, but was within the same industry. --Ahecht (TALK

I have no COI related to the creation of the page. I do not personally know the subject, nor am I being paid for this work. At most, I work within a similar industry. Thank you. Bryony Jackson (talk) 01:29, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. TSventon (talk) 11:53, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Do you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest relating to your edits on 30 May to Carbon offsets and credits, Oil mill and Self-sustainability? TSventon (talk) 13:43, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
I understand Wikipedia’s guidelines regarding COI and strive to adhere to them carefully. My intention with the edits on those pages was to improve the accuracy and completeness of the information based on latest and reliable sources.
If you have specific concerns about any content I added or its sourcing, I welcome constructive feedback and am happy to collaborate on ensuring neutrality and compliance with Wikipedia policies.
Thank you again for your oversight and support. Bryony Jackson (talk) 01:51, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
Your AI chatbot does not understand the COI guidelines and policies. Please never use it again to seek to communicate with real people. It is disruptive editing. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 11:58, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Images

Hi again, you have uploaded three images of Hong Wai Onn from the internet to Wikimedia Commons as author Hong Wai Onn and copyright status CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Do you have some evidence for that?

Generally photos on the internet are copyright are copyright protected and the copyright belongs to the photographer, not the subject, unless the photographer reassigns the copyright. There is more detail in the Wikipedia:Image use policy. TSventon (talk) 12:13, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

Update: the images have been deleted as copyright violations. TSventon (talk) 19:21, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Thank you also for the clarification regarding the image usage policy. I fully understand the issue, and I’m currently in the process of obtaining explicit written consent and copyright release from the photographer(s) or copyright holder(s), as per Wikimedia Commons licensing requirements.
I will only re-upload the images once the appropriate permissions are secured and will ensure that they are clearly documented through the OTRS process or through a valid CC license, in compliance with Commons guidelines. Bryony Jackson (talk) 01:49, 1 June 2025 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Timtrent. An edit that you recently made to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hong Wai Onn seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or other application using such technology). Stop icon You have used sources that are either clearly noted as paid placement, unmarked press releases or marketing content, or blatant fake content farms which house unmarked SEO placement. One of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. These sources step far beyond those policies. Please carefully evaluate your references in the future, and ensure that you are in compliance with our mandatory paid editing disclosures. Sam Kuru (talk) 21:52, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, Bryony Jackson. We welcome your contributions, but it appears as if your primary purpose on Wikipedia is to add citations to sources you may be affiliated with.

Editing in this way is a violation of the policy against using Wikipedia for promotion and is a form of conflict of interest. The editing community considers excessive self-citing to be a form of spamming on Wikipedia (WP:REFSPAM); the edits will be reviewed and the citations removed where it was not appropriate to add them.

If you wish to continue contributing, please first consider citing other reliable secondary sources such as review articles that were written by other researchers in your field and that are already highly cited in the literature. If you wish to cite sources for which you may have a conflict of interest, please start a new section on the article's talk page and add {{Edit COI}} to ask a volunteer to review whether or not the citation should be added.

Your submission at Articles for creation: Palm Oil Processing Special Interest Group (POPSIG) University Roadshow (October 18)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reasons left by ChrysGalley were:
This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs multiple published sources that are:
Make sure you add references that meet all four of these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Your draft shows signs of having been generated by a large language model, such as ChatGPT. Their outputs usually have multiple issues that prevent them from meeting our guidelines on writing articles. These include:
Please address these issues. The best way is usually to read reliable sources and summarize them, instead of using a large language model. See our help page on large language models.
The comment the reviewer left was:
This appears to be LLM generated. There is Rule of Three several times over, and use of wording that a human is unlikely to make, such as "concentrating on knowledge exchange".

Secondly for an article like this, notability by Wikipedia's definition needs to be shown and verified by independent reliable sources. All the sources here are either the direct work of the students involved, or reprinted via their university or other connected institution. There are some media stories, but they don't cover WP:GNG by being indepth about the roadshow.

It is unusual for a roadshow at this level to have an article. See WP:SIRS and the academic notability guidelines. It may be worth considering whether there is a better place for this as part of another article on palm oil. It will still need reliable sourcing.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
