New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello Jeffrey R. Clark,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Hi Jeff, it's nice having you as my mentor. I would love to learn from you with the notable years of experience you have how to create good articles on Wikipedia. Looking forward to your swift response.

Kind Regards! --Iririservices (talk) 22:31, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Keya Adam (16:43, 18 February 2026)

hey Jeffrey R, Can you help me with Editing part. I am novice in Wikipedia, and this is my first published. --Keya Adam (talk) 16:43, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

@Keya Adam My advice to you would be for you to read the following pages First, Biographies of living persons, Neutral point of view, No original research, and Verifiability. Before even starting to write your first article. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 10:14, 21 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Tsitp33 (19:33, 18 February 2026)

Hi, I'm pretty new to Wikipedia and honestly still figuring out how everything works. I tried deleting some stuff from Paul Fireman's page that didn't seem important, but another editor told me I did it wrong? On my talk page I suggested maybe rewording it instead but they never got back to me. Not really sure what I'm supposed to do next or who to ask --Tsitp33 (talk) 19:33, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

@Tsitp33 It would be better for you to post a message on the talk page of the article you're trying to edit with an explanation of your proposed changes. Not everyone replies to talk page messages unless pinged. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 10:18, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
That makes sense! I actually did drop the message on the talk page for Paul Fireman are you able to look at it and let me know your thoughts? If not I can ping someone specific. Tsitp33 (talk) 16:01, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

@ObnoxiousWIKIGUY I'm a real live person, as for your question. My advice to you would be for you to read the following pages First, Biographies of living persons, Neutral point of view, No original research, and Verifiability. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 10:19, 21 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from 78goldwing (16:57, 23 February 2026)

Hi ~ I was stationed on the USS Enterprise for 2 tours in the 1970s. When reading her online article today I noticed that it said there was a Citation Needed concerning the beer that was brewed by a Hobart Tasmania brewery during our visit there 10/29 to 11/4/76. I have one of those labels but when I tried to upload a .jpg of it I was told that I didn't have authority to do so. --78goldwing (talk) 16:58, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

@78goldwing The label is copy written most likely by the brewery, you would need a proper use rational in order to upload it. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 10:06, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Stephen Arthur Morris (00:52, 27 February 2026)

Hi Jeffrey, I offered to translate this page into French and add to Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Cribb I spoke with Julian Cribb and he appreciates my offer to help. However, I am concerned about my lack of knowledge on Wikipedia. The translation is done but I do not know the best way to proceed. Can you please give me some pointers? Thanks very much Stephen --Stephen Arthur Morris (talk) 00:52, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

@Stephen Arthur Morris I'm not sure how the process of translating a page into another language works, give me a chance to look up the information and I will be happy to get back to you on this matter. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 10:08, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from 5afetylast12 (14:26, 5 March 2026)

Hello, Jeffrey! I wanted to ask a question about relevance. Would I be able to make a wiki page about Youtuber, animator, and podcaster MeatCanyon? Is this something I can make a wiki about, or is it not relevant to the Creepypasta and Youtube space? --5afetylast12 (talk) 14:26, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

@5afetylast12 You could if there are reliable sources that show notability. If this is your first article take a look at this guide for helpful tips on creating your first article and as always I'm always here to answer questions. Jeffrey R. Clark talk contribs 01:17, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

Question from Quercus37 (21:00, 14 March 2026)

Hello Jeffrey! I am a new editor because I’ve researched S. Louise Patteson and want to expand her entry. What tutorials do you suggest? --Quercus37 (talk) 21:00, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
