Speedy deletion nomination of Parkview Public Library
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Parkview Public Library requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

There don't seem to be many references indepednent of the library that lend notability to this locally important topic. Most of the reference related to the context of reading in South Africa more broadly, which could be helpfully added elsewhere. I also wonder about the relevance of national literacy rates in Parkview, which seems to a be relatively affluent part of Johannesburg. Are there figures on local literacy being problematic?

{{Re|Klbrain}} Thanks for the helpful feedback and additional guidance. They are much appreciated. Parkview is a highly affluent area. Wealth and literacy should not, however, be conflated. The library also serves several high-functioning state schools, with children drawn in from various socio-economc groups. Derek J Moore (talk) 12:31, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Council on Higher Education moved to draftspace
Thanks for your contributions to Council on Higher Education. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it does not appear to be finished.
I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page.
When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. —asparagusus(interaction)sprouts! 20:37, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 18
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited SADiLaR, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page OER. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ• Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Reusable assignment moved to draftspace
Hi, I've moved this article to draftspace because I believe it is a better candidate for the WP:AFC process given that two of the citations in question appear to be to yourself. This is not automatically against Wikipedia policy, but I would recommend reading WP:SELFPUB and WP:SELFCITE to understand Wikipedia guidance on doing this safely.
Ahead of the AfC review, I would also recommend trying to find more sources that use the WP:COMMONNAME for the phenomenon that you're describing, along with more sources that involve editorial review - blogs and student newspapers don't really contribute much towards WP:NOTABILITY. BrigadierG (talk) 21:33, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi BrigadierG. Okay. I’ll check the citations. Thanks for the advice. I recently have been granted access to the Wikipedia Library. I’m not sure if that is at your reccomendation. But I hope to up my citation quality now. Thanks Derek J Moore (talk) 04:26, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
Good luck! I certainly like the premise of the article, and as a college dropout who has been disillusioned with the process, I do wish educators would set more of these kinds of assignments. BrigadierG (talk) 10:34, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Ways to improve Johannesburg Emergency Water Supply
The article reads like a news release, is focussed simply on current (and current for how long?) events, and should give a fuller picture including background on the water supply, the issues and difficulties, and why it is a notable subject.

Hello! I have seen that you created the article Kloof Street Public Library. I love libraries and am very happy to have more library articles on Wikipedia, but the article was written in an extremely bias and promotional tone. Surprised that you have deleted an article in Sandbox. I was looking at the criteria for Wikinews https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion. Hello, Derek J Moore. I see that you are actively editing this article, but you don't seem to be working to resolving any of the issues with it, rather you are adding to them by simply updating current events. Could i suggest that you work on actually defining/describing the subject of the Johannesburg Emergency Water Supply, in such a way that it is both encyclopaedic and not a largely opinion piece (apparently) aimed at local users of the water supply. I'd suggest that you need a structure which first defines the problem and the reasons for it, then describes official/potential solutions, and finally gives current events as a small part of the article. If i can help in any way, please don't hesitate to ask, here or on my talk page, as i would be happy to help improve the article ~ LindsayHello 13:19, 13 December 2024 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Luno (cryptocurrency company)
Hello Derek J Moore, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Luno (cryptocurrency company), should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luno (cryptocurrency company).

The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Speedy deletion nomination of Tangible Africa
Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as Tangible Africa, is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. Proposed deletion of Social impact publishing
Hello, Derek J Moore
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Coeusin, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Social impact publishing, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.
Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
Click the Publish changes button.
If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Coeusin}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Thanks @Jonesey95 for cleaning up the documentation section. Have attempted documentation but am thus far not successful. Still trying though Derek J Moore (talk) 16:17, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Tangible Africa (June 7)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Ca was:
This draft's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article. In summary, the draft needs multiple published sources that are:
in-depth (not just brief mentions about the subject or routine announcements)
Make sure you add references that meet all four of these criteria before resubmitting. Learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
I am on the fence for this draft. On hand there is significant coverage about a product of the organization, TANKS, but there is little independent coverage about Tangible Africa itself. I recommend finding more independent sources that describe this organization in detail.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:Tangible Africa and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.
Thanks for the comprehensive feedback. Much appreciated. Derek J Moore (talk) 14:02, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Copyright problem on Draft:Johannesburg Blue Plaques
Content you added to the above draft appears to have been copied from https://openplaques.org/, which is marked as being protected by copyright. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the text of the plaques had to be removed. In South Africa, such plaques are protected by copyright law, even though they are displayed in a public place. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory/South Africa for more information on freedom of panorama in South Africa. You won't be able to upload any photos of the plaques either, so I have removed that column from the table. Please let me know if you have any questions. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 20:01, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
Hello Diannaa. The colunm of citations had reference to the page on open data. Which says explicitly that the date caned be "re-use the data in any way you see fit. It is released under the Public Domain Dedication and License 1.0." https://openplaques.org/dataDerek J Moore (talk) 20:14, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
Sorry but I disagree. They did not write the prose on the plaques; they have collected information about plaques that were created by the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation. Therefore they do not own the copyright on the material, and are not in a position to release it into the public domain. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 01:46, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
Hello Dianna. Thanks for the reply. There are a number of problems with your argument, but let me contact Professor Kathy Munro who is behind most of the work. If I have her (and the foundation’s permission) to include the citations on Wikipedia, then I assume that this problem will fall away. Derek J Moore (talk) 04:49, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
There are other groups who were involved in blue plaques. Including the Wikipedia chapter (WMZA) with a project called Joburgpedia see Wikipedia:GLAM/JoburgpediA. Naturally as Wikipedians, their plaques are openly licensed. Derek J Moore (talk) 05:07, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
Hello @Diannaa I have texted Professor Kathy Munro via Whatapp. She has NOT yet given explicit permission to add that JHF Blue Plaques but we still need to have a conversation. I will however being adding images and text from the JoburgPedia Digitalization Project to this Johannesburg Blue Plaque list, since this is clearly openly licensed. See the blue plaque at alongside Also adding @Bobbyshabangu to this conversation so that he can confirm that these plaques are indeed open (He sent me the details about the JoburgPedia Digitalisation project a few days ago). Assuming there are no objections? Best Derek J Moore (talk) 09:20, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
It appears to me that the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation owns the copyright to the prose on the plaques. We need to have documentation that shows in writing that they have given permission for the material to be copied to this website, and are prepared to release the material under license. Wikipedia has procedures in place for this purpose. Please see WP:Donating copyrighted materials for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. There are already numerous photos of blue plaques uploaded to the Commons. I have nominated the plaque File:Satyagraha-House-1.jpg for deletion so an administrator there can assess whether or not it is okay for us to host these photos. See commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Satyagraha-House-1.jpg — Diannaa🍁(talk) 10:30, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
There are quite a few plaques there. You will have to quite a cull. Derek J Moore (talk) 20:22, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
I am not an admin on the Commons. It will be their decision what to do. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 23:13, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
Your nomination will go down in history though. For an organization concerned with making the world’s knowledge freely available, you are doing exactly the opposite. Derek J Moore (talk) 04:43, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
It's also not a good look if the 10th most popular website in the world has no regard for copyright law or its own copyright policy. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 12:11, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
Hello @Diannaa I contacted Barbara at the Joburg Heritage Association (I became a member recently) and enquired whether JHA had objections to me posting Blue Plaques onto Wikimedia. Her reply was "No objection", good publicity". I see that you saved those files in your sandbox. That's very kind. I'm assuming that I can restore the files. Perhaps, to protect Wikimedia, I'll use one your very helpful templates? Derek J Moore (talk) 13:01, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Sorry but we can't take your word for it that it's okay for Wikipedia to publish this content. To protect the rights of copyright holders, we need to have documentation directly from the copyright holder that they have released the content under a compatible license. This is done by them sending an email directly to our Volunteer Response Team. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission as to what you can do to get this process started. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 13:29, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you started
Hi Derek J Moore. Thank you for your work on Research infrastructure. Another editor, Ldm1954, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
At the moment this page is just a slightly extended dictionary definition. Please improve it first, quality control in main space matters.
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Ldm1954}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
Hello@Ldm1954 Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Derek J Moore (talk) 16:52, 7 September 2025 (UTC)

Hello @Diannaa, so good to bump into you again. You made a wrong call last time. The admins did not delete the plaques, you said infringed copyright. It would have been polite to say. Sorry. I made a mistake. Looks like you are about to make a wrong call again. Now I understand the pressure to maintain your position on top of your league table. But there are five pillars of Wikipedia. And assume good faith is one of them. So I am going to assume you have good faith, and you will show me the source of my infringement. Derek J Moore (talk) 16:43, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
The fact that no Commons administrator has yet acted on or commented on my proposed deletion of the images does not mean that they are okay to keep. We are all volunteers here, and there's a big backlog of deletion requests up for review (see commons:Commons:Deletion requests. There are 5782 open deletion requests, the oldest being 126 days old. We will have to wait, and someone will make a decision eventually.Regarding the draft, I found the matching content here. The matching content is on page 60. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 22:03, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
Hello Diana (@Diannaa) I've not heard from you so I'll assume that Diana is fine. Been meaning to reply to you about the Research infrastructure PDF page that you sent me, and thank you for finding it. I'll take your word that you found a match. The problem is, that's not where I sourced the lead paragraph from. I found it on German Wikipedia. See dewikiresearch infrastructure (Q1438053) There's a similar version in Swedish and in Polish all licensed under a CC BY SA. I've tried to summarize them all. Hope that meets with your approval. Best Derek J Moore (talk) 14:11, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
It's okay to copy/translate from other-language Wikipedias, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa🍁(talk) 14:49, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Vredehoek library
Hello Derek J Moore, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Vredehoek library, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vredehoek library.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Wasianpower}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Howzit @GeographicAccountant. Thanks for the proposal. With all due respects I think that the merge is a poor idea, because of interface. Take out your phone. Preferably not a phablet, but a cheap phome with a small viewport. Compare the two templates with each other and tell me what you see! On my side the one template involves lots of sideways scrolling. The other template fits. Your thoughts of course would be appreciated. Best Derek J Moore (talk) 17:59, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Middelburg Mpumalanga Map
Hello, Derek J Moore,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Guessitsavis, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Middelburg Mpumalanga Map for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.
For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Guessitsavis}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:46, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
It would be helpful if you would stop creating templates that are not needed, are not used, and often have no documentation. Every time you create such a template, it ends up creating a bunch of work at WP:TFD. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:47, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Derek, Thank you. I have been able to read comments from Jan-Hendrik about the AI.
AI usage is discouraged though Wikipedia does not ban AI use outright, but it requires that editors follow all core policies like Verifying the information. But it's alright if it's generally grammar and I'll take the flag off for now. Thank you Derek!. MichealKal (talk) 09:41, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. In the future, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find these errors as they will display in yellow at the top of the page. Thanks. Hello David. Thanks for the feedback. I'll pass the message onto Onke. He's doing great work in writing about the lives of the so called "Born Free's". His first book was about being educated in a privileged school (as a black teen) and the second is about the culture of corruption (Canary) in government and whistleblowing. Two important themes! Too small to warrant coverage as an institute, it might be better to reframe this as a biography of Benjamin Rosman. Most of the sources are from associated entities.
