Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Question regarding Adavoyle railway

Hi, I hope you are well. I enjoyed finding this article about Jonesborough. There is a mention of a Mr Fitzpatrick who was killed at Meigh crossing in 1919.

This man was my grandfather am I am doing research into his life and death. I was just curious where you found the information about this incident. Do you recall whether it was mentioned in any book or newspaper article.

Any insight you had, however small would be really appreciated as my family was very interested.

thanks

(talk page watcher) Gooday Peter; I saw your message and thought I would respond as DW has not edited Wikipedia under this username since June 2024.
The text (also known as prose) you are referring to was added 21 August 2008, and in Wikipedia terms is known as original research, in other words, someone 'voicing' their inner thoughts and likely to be an anecdotal account. In the early days of building the 'pedia, 2006/2008, this was rife. This has been incrementally tightened to today's stringent standard requirements; initially, press or similar hard-published sources were advisable, but with the rise of new media (not having hard archives) things have changed again, and certain online portals are considered unreliable, hence are discouraged. The IP address used was from South East England; from near the end of last year, these IP addresses have been hidden to the public, and now show as a temporary account.
All the best in your research.--~2026-94459-1 (talk) 22:21, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
