Appropriateness RE the See Also Section

Hiya!

I've written one article, M. Laura Feltri, the late former director of the university department where I work (this is conflict of interest has been disclosed). Our department a "legacy page" for her (found here) which lists her awards, grants, a professional summary in her own words, etc. This page has not been cited in the article, but may be of interest for curious readers. Would this be appropriate to list in a See Also section? Additionally, it's my understanding that it's frowned upon to cite sources published by her department or university - is this the case?

Thank you! RileyRobbins (talk) 14:34, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Hey @RileyRobbins, I'd recommend putting it in a new 'External Links' section below the references. That's typically for any links leaving Wikipedia, as See also is for other wiki pages.
It is frowned upon to cite sources published by a primary source, but not completely barred. You can use a primary source if it is reputably published, used to cite simple facts, and not "analyzed, evaluated, interpreted, or synthesized". Extra caution should be taken to check that everything that's being verified is actually explicitly said in the source and secondary sources should still make up the large majority of sources. If you have any further Qs or specific examples please let me know!
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 17:29, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Edit Request Revisons

Hi @Encoded, thank you for reviewing my COI edit request on Talk:Matthew Hoffman (TV host). Unfortunately it was declined, though I'd like to resubmit it based on the feedback provided. To resubmit this request, would it be best for me to submit a new request entirely, edit the existing one, or provide the edited information in a reply to the original request?

Thank you, MapleTrail92 (talk) 16:10, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey @MapleTrail92, the easiest will probably be to edit the existing request. To re-add the request to the queue remove the parameters from the edit coi template. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 16:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Sergeevich92 (14:30, 2 October 2025)

Hello. I work for the company that develops drug buntanetap. I wanted to modify the information on Wiki because the current page is outdated and has wrong facts. I wrote a new article and provided links. It was reverted back to old version now. Why? --Sergeevich92 (talk) 14:30, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Sergeevich92, welcome to Wikipedia. The edit in question was reverted due to Most of your references do not satisfy MEDRS and also fail verification. Question from The Transhumanist (06:59, 13 October 2025)

Dear mentor,

There's this new feature called Home Page, and when I went on it, there was a section in the corner that says your my mentor! There was a box to communicate to you through, to ask any question, and so, I was wondering if I could pick your brain about the impact of Wikipedia on AI and vice versa...

Where in the Wikimedia community is AI (in relation to Wikipedia) being discussed?

I'm interested in the impact AI is making on Wikipedia, including reduced traffic, reduction in editors, AI-generated content on Wikipedia, AI out competing Wikipedia with on-demand near-instant AI-generated articles by conversation bots, and anything else pertaining to Wikipedia-AI.

Is Wikipedia in danger of going the way of the dinosaurs due to AI? And if so, when?

Or, will Wikipedia adapt by itself being developed into an AI?

Please respond on my talk page.

Thank you.

Sincerely,    The Transhumanist   06:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

P.S.: I don't recall signing up for a mentor. Would you please check to see how I got one?

EuroStack page controversy again

Hello @Encoded -- thank you for your help recently on the EuroStack page. Can you help again? A brand new account seems to want to associate unrelated and seemingly controversial content about Cristina Caffarra's past (none really, while the cast with TikTok is interesting and important, it's one in a hundred clients in her career -- and the link is thin!!), but it misses the mark. The account is brand new, no track record, etc... How do we create balance, neutrality and transparency with accounts that pop out of nowhere? Thank you! Ylechelle (talk) 12:47, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey I've reverted the account's edit and sent them an edit warning. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 09:47, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey, I messaged directly and they said they don't have any conflict to declare, not much I can do other than that without more proof/someone with more power to check - if you wanted to you can escalate to WP:COIN to ask for that but I'll leave that up to you. I've added the article to my watchlist anyways so I'll keep an eye on it because I think the claims being added are WP:BLP violations anyways. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:28, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
Just pinging you a reply here to give you an update, the content they've added is now properly sourced, if you wanted it removed you'd have to gain consensus. Since it's properly sourced I'd say it's fine to stay unless there's a compelling reason for it's removal, and if you wanted consensus on its removal I'd step aside during that discussion as an involved editor and let others discuss in this case. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 07:00, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

1982 America's Junior Miss District of Columbia

Hello, I would like to request the addition of verified information regarding my participation in the 1982 America’s Junior Miss national competition.

I, Maxine D. Shelton, was the official Miss District of Columbia for America’s Junior Miss 1982. Although this information is not currently listed, it can be verified through:

The official 1982 national program, which includes the show order and portrait pages of all 52 contestants (including myself).

Records maintained by Distinguished Young Women headquarters in Mobile, Alabama (formerly America’s Junior Miss). For accuracy and documentation purposes, I respectfully request that the following statement be added:

Maxine D. Shelton represented the District of Columbia in the 1982 America’s Junior Miss national competition (now known as Distinguished Young Women).

Thank you for helping ensure the historical record accurately reflects verified participation.

Best Regards,

Maxine D. Shelton Templescarellc (talk) 23:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Templescarellc, unfortunately that article only lists the winners of the national competition, not individual state winners. It'd be quite long in that case! Unless it's a particularly notable win for some reason (e.g. first X winner) it would typically not be documented. I'd recommend asking on that page's Talk:America's Junior Miss as the folks over there will know more about it than I do, thanks! Encoded  Talk 💬 17:05, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

It can sometimes take a week or two for edits to be reviewed depending on how busy it gets but you can usually speed it along by messaging one of the reviewers and asking if they'd be happy to look at it. Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia! Encoded  Talk 💬 16:58, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from WhiteFactLoom (04:26, 21 October 2025)

Hi mentor,

I’ve drafted an article about Openly, Inc., an American insurance technology company, at User:WhiteFactLoom/Openly, Inc..

Could you please review it and share feedback on its notability and sourcing before I submit it to Articles for Creation (AfC)?

Thanks! --WhiteFactLoom (talk) 04:26, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey, looks like a good article! A few of the insurance journal sources are coming up as page not found for me, will be worth looking at before submitting. archive.org and archive.ph might have copies saved that you can use. I'd also suggest merging funding into history as it could come across as promotional/having undue weight to some editors, but that is up to you! If you need anything else please let me know! Seeking feedback on a Wikipedia work page

Hi @Encoded! I wanted to ask if you might be willing to help with a small issue on the Wikipedia work page that lists companies and editors involved in paid editing. Outspoken is currently listed under “undisclosed editors,” but I’ve always disclosed my paid status by adding COI tags to the talk pages of any articles I’ve worked on.

Since you’ve seen my past work and know that I follow Wikipedia’s disclosure policies, I thought you might be a good neutral editor to help move or correct that entry. I’m not blocked from editing the page, but I’d rather avoid any appearance of impropriety by requesting assistance from someone independent. I'd appreciate any feedback or help that you could provide.

Here’s the link to the page for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_paid_editing_companies#Outspoken_Media SBCornelius (talk) 18:37, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @SBCornelius, I certainly agree that you follow the disclosure policies. Your userpage alone should prove that. I'm sorry to hear you've been put in the undisclosed section of that list. I've moved you down to the disclosed section which lists paid editors that correctly follow policy, since I've not seen any evidence to suggest you've done any non-disclosure whatsoever. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 19:16, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Encoded,

I hope you’ve been doing well! I wanted to quickly follow up here (since I wasn’t sure if you’d seen my email earlier). Thank you again for all your guidance with the Sanket Goel article. It’s been really helpful in improving the draft and ensuring compliance with COI and neutrality guidelines.

The draft has now been submitted for a while now, and I just wanted to check if there’s anything further I should be doing to make it easier to review, or if it’s best to simply wait in the queue. I completely understand that reviews take time and appreciate all the volunteer effort that goes into this process.

What are some general editing rules I should know? For example, what to link and what not to link. Thanks! --Qzvm (talk) 16:46, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey, generally for what to link we have the concept of reliable sources, in short - if it's secondary (independent of the article's subject), has significant coverage of the article's subject (not just a passing mention), and is reputably published it's typically ok! News articles, websites, newspaper clippings, etc. are great examples. If there's any particular sources you'd like help with feel free to send them over and I can give you my thoughts.
The best way to learn is by visiting the introduction - there's a tonne of policies and guidelines, don't worry if you can't remember them all, I still find myself looking stuff up sometimes! As long as you edit with good faith and are open to discussing any concerns or issues, you'll be fine! I'm also a big fan of being bold!

For these, I’m wondering if there might be a workable path forward where we only remove the service listings. Would the remaining portions of the request be acceptable if framed this way?

Also, I completely understand the concern around promotional tone. Do you have any recommendations on how to make these updates sound more neutral and encyclopedic? I want to ensure the information stays factual and compliant with Wikipedia’s guidelines.

Thank you for your time and guidance. Kthapvongsa (talk) 15:28, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Kthapvongsa, apologies for not providing more descriptive feedback. I've provided some more below.
Updates to consumer product
Proposed: TaxSlayer’s consumer products allow taxpayers to electronically file their taxes online each year. The product provides several different packages to provide varying levels of assistance and support customers require when filing tax returns . TaxSlayer offers four consumer pricing tiers: Free, Classic, Premium, and Self-Employed. The Classic package supports all standard IRS forms and schedules, including those for self-employment and rental income. Premium and Self-Employed plans include access to tax professionals and audit assistance.
The highlighted section may violate NOCATALOG, this could be rectified by going less into specifics here. For example, by saying there are 4 tiers but not saying what they are - by including pricing information it makes it non-encyclopaedic and more like a sales pitch.
Updates to pro product
Proposed: TaxSlayer Pro is designed to be licensed by members of tax preparation practices and small to mid-sized accounting firms . It offers software for both desktop and cloud-based tax preparation. The software includes functionality for individual tax return filing (Form 1040), integration with financial products, document management, a client portal, and desktop or cloud based preparation. The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) has recognized, TaxSlayer Pro among the top-rated software packages for tax professionals in the U.S .
Pretty much the same as above, feels more like a sales pitch/promotional. Happy to include non-red sections as is.
Update sports sponsorships
To be honest I find myself disagreeing with myself here, I've added it to the article.
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:41, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Rayan Pradhan (10:36, 14 November 2025)

My edits were flagged for COI even though I only added fact-based information with proper citations. Later I was also told it looked like I was trying to promote websites, which confused me because I added those links just to verify the information. I’d appreciate some guidance—this page is almost 10 years old and doesn’t reflect any of Alisha Pradhan’s work or achievements from the last decade. What’s the best way to move forward? --Rayan Pradhan (talk) 10:36, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Rayan Pradhan, thanks for messaging and apologies for the delay in replying. If you have any relation with the subject of an article your request may be flagged for COI. I'd recommend submitting edit requests instead of editing the page directly yourself, this is the preferred method and ensures you stay out of hot water with other editors! You can access the request page here: WP:ERW. Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:51, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Zh25st (08:46, 17 November 2025)

Hi, I spent quite some time editing this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bergans&oldid=1322140884, and when I went to save it, I was notified that it had been reverted (flagged as spam). Fortunately, it's still in the article's history, so hopefully it's possible to improve it and get it published after some changes. However, I would love your help pointing out which parts of the article are considered spam. Can you help? --Zh25st (talk) 08:46, 17 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey, @Zh25st apologies for the delay replying. I've restored your version into your sandbox so you can edit it further before resubmitting it: User:Zh25st/sandbox. Once you're done you can copy it across to the main article. The main issues I saw were quite a few bits without citations/references, and the "Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility" seemed quite promotional in tone. Do you have any kind of relationship with the company as well? (e.g. employee, contractor, etc). It's fine if you do - just need to point you in the right direction for information! Hi @TheeCitationist, sorry to hear that! It might be that your login session expired or there was an issue on Wikipedia's end, it's certainly unusual and hopefully won't happen again. As long as you're logged in it should automatically credit you. If you're continuing to have issues with it please let me know and I can help you escalate it. Question from FelixGao0 (00:30, 23 November 2025)

when would something need to be discussed in an article's talk page thingy? --FelixGao0 (talk) 00:30, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @FelixGao0, typically talk pages are used to resolve disputes or discuss how articles can be improved. The only time something "needs" to be discussed there is if there's disagreement on something, for example editor A thinks it should be Apple whereas editor B thinks Apple, Inc. is more appropriate. The talk pages would then be used and other editors would join the discussion to find consensus on the issue instead of just fighting over it in the article. Articles for Creation backlog drive

Hello Encoded:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in December!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than half a month of outstanding reviews from the current 2+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 December 2025 through 31 December 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:07, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Drainbamage09 (22:12, 23 November 2025)

I made a Wikipedia page and literally everything I wrote got deleted and then I was threatened with being banned if I edited the page anymore. Why am I being threatened with editing and deleting others content when all mine was removed? --Drainbamage09 (talk) 22:12, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Drainbamage09, looks like it was in relation to some citation issues and a disagreement on content, I've looked at your recent edits regarding the cite issues and they look all good now, if you need any more help there WP:REFVISUAL might be helpful! For the disagreement on content you'd probably be best reaching out to that editor directly to discuss the best path forward, but typically removing whole sections without much explanation tends to be frowned upon, try to put your reasonings in the edit summaries - that can help others editors understand why you did it and usually results in discussions rather than warnings for disagreements. Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 23:07, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mustafa Surzil (09:14, 24 November 2025)

I am new in wikipedia, I mean i knew about it is there and got the idea clear and liked it a lot. I wanted to join the team who are making this magnificent work into reality but I didn't find a clue, now that i am in, i need support to understand the work environment and the culture behind that making this big task easy. please provide me a overview on how things are done here. BTW: I am a blogger and two of my books are published. I am a Bangladeshi writer --Mustafa Surzil (talk) 09:14, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Mustafa Surzil, welcome to Wikipedia! Editing here is super simple, you can write about something you know such as a local area, correct mistakes you come across, or write a new article that's missing from the site. If you're new to editing I'd recommend visiting HELP:INTRO which is a fantastic introduction to how editing works here.
In short:
- Ensure that you reference any new content you add with a reliable source.
- If your edit is reverted, you can discuss it at the talk page, where you should resolve any disputes.
- Consensus rules here, if the general opinion is that Option A is better than Option B, we do Option A - you're always welcome to join any discussions no matter what they are, everyone's opinion is valued! But it's important that the result of the discussion is respected, even if it's not the one you wanted.
- Finally, be bold, and enjoy!
I've left a message on your talk page with links to all our guidelines and policies, etc. Don't worry about reading these all right away, and don't worry if it's a bit overwhelming at once. It can be! Feel free to come back here and ask any questions - I'm here to help!
When you're ready to get started you can look around and edit anywhere you'd like to, write a new article, or find jobs at the task center. Happy editing, Encoded  Talk 💬 23:14, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

My article's chance of acceptance

Dear Encoded, Could you please give me an idea of how likely my article is to be accepted? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hushmand_Dehqan Mojgoon (talk) 21:21, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Mojgoon, the article is a great start but I agree with Patre23's assessment sent today. Currently the provided references don't show that Hushmand is "notable" (in Wikipedia's sense, not in general) - however by adding some more reliable sources you can prove their notability.
Are there any news articles about there work? I've also split the article into sections, this can make it look more "full" which can help, I've added an early life and education section and a career section (I've also put his books in - this can help). I've left some comments on the page which I'd recommend checking - if you can find something for all of them points it will be much more likely to be accepted. Once you've had a chance to see about adding some more let me know and I'll review!
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 23:24, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
Please feel free to delete my comments once you've seen them also. Encoded  Talk 💬 23:28, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

I have filled out the author's Infobox according to your guidance. I added the photo. I expanded the content and added new, reliable references. Please review the draft again. Thank you for your time. Mojgoon (talk) 09:43, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Former Pentagon official Kathleen Hicks

Hi Encoded, you had previously handled an edit request I posted on the article for Robert Rubin, so I'm reaching out to see if you are able to look at one about a different former government official. In this case it is Kathleen Hicks, whose article contains mention of an event that is arguably WP:UNDUE, especially given the article's short length. I've held it back from the COI request queue, hoping to find someone with some experience in the subject matter, but haven't been able to find a reviewer after a few weeks. Question from Joshua Bearnard (03:59, 27 November 2025)

What do you personally think the Illuminati represents today? General ✨ I’ve always been curious about how different people interpret the idea of the “Illuminati.”

Some say it’s a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment, others say it’s a historical secret society, and some believe it represents modern groups or communities with their own teachings.

I’m not asking about conspiracy theories — I’m more interested in the philosophical or symbolic meaning behind it.

Do you think the term “Illuminati” today refers to:

a real organization?

a symbolic concept?

a spiritual or awareness movement?

or just a misunderstood word people use online?

I’d like to hear the community’s thoughts.

How do you interpret the modern meaning of the Illuminati? --Joshua Bearnard (talk) 03:59, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

A question

Hello there. I was just recently looking through the recent changes page and clicked on a user by the name of Hosamsaa and it looked they had a whole article on their user page titled Najd Rebellion (1819 - 1824). This may be foolish of me, but I do not know if there is something I should do about it, and if it’s even allowed. I looked through the page and searched for the title on Wikipedia but it seems that there is no article like it and that they created a draft and are editing it on their user page. As I said before, I do not know if this is allowed or not, I may just be very foolish. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what to do and why or, if better, you could do something yourself if needed. Once again, thank you and sorry if I am being a fool. Hello! I am (obviously) new to this. I am mostly interested learn to edit Wikipedia because I love the resource. I also live in Morocco and I noticed that there is a need for more content in that area.

The only edits I've successfully done so far are adding suggested links. That is pretty straightforward. I'm working on medium level stuff now. Finding sources to cite. I started looking around for sources to hold up some of this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Computer_Sciences,_Social_Informatics_and_Telecommunications_Engineering Before getting to far into it, how is it determined whether or not something is worthy of a wikipedia page? --WannabeChaibia (talk) 06:40, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey @WannabeChaibia, welcome to Wikipedia! Glad to hear you're getting stuck in! The best way to determine if something is worthy of a Wikipedia page is if it passes the general notability guideline, that's how we determine what gets an article and what doesn't. It generally needs to have at least 3 (that's a minimum, typically they'll need more) reliable, independent, neutral sources that have significant coverage of the article's subject. Certain things such as geographical locations have exceptions to this but that's the general rule. The GNG page linked is massive and full of info about it. If you have any specific questions about sources or any specific topics feel free to let me know and I can provide more details! Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:23, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Negra.perlog (22:24, 30 November 2025)

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I’m reaching out for some guidance regarding my draft article about Rea Nuhu. I have made significant revisions to the draft, especially in terms of formatting the references properly, improving the structure, and ensuring that all sources are reliable and clearly cited.

However, the draft has been declined again, and I would greatly appreciate your help in understanding what specific improvements might still be needed. I want to make sure I’m following Wikipedia’s guidelines correctly, especially regarding notability and sourcing.

If you have the time, could you please take a look at the updated version of my draft and let me know if there’s anything I should adjust or strengthen? Your mentorship has been very helpful to me so far, and I would be grateful for any direction you can offer.

Thank you very much for your time and support. Best regards! --Negra.perlog (talk) 22:24, 30 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Negra.perlog, unfortunately many of the websites aren't translating for me for some reason! I'll take a look again tomorrow when I'm at my other computer - maybe it will work there.
In the meantime, here's some more general advice: ensure that your references display significant coverage, they all seem (from what I can tell) to be independent, but some of them seem quite short so I'd double check that. They don't all need significant coverage especially if it's just talking about one specific thing but you need some that do. Next, ensure they're reliable. I noticed that reference 1 appears to be user-generated content (I see a list of contributors) that's unreliable.
When I get to my PC tomorrow I'll try and see if translate will work there and give you some proper, more specific advice - apologies that I can't today!

Hello Encoded,

I hope you're doing well. I have a couple of questions and would love your help:

Since the Hooshmand Dehghan article was approved, I’ve made many edits. I have gathered all the information about his life and cleaned up the references. Do you think it’s ready to be nominated for GA?

The article still doesn't show up in Google search results. Do you know why that is?

I have also changed its rating from C to B. Could you please check it and give me your assessment?

Thank you very much for your time. --Mojgoon (talk) 16:09, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Mojgoon, the article looks great! I agree with upgrading to B class. I don't really handle any GA-related things here so I'm not too sure what the requirements are and how it works. I did see the feedback last time mentioned the career section which does look improved. Best of luck if you do submit for GA! As for Google, unfortunately that's just a waiting game. Google periodically checks here but we have no control on when nor do they tell us when they do it or how often they do it, it's very likely that they just haven't updated their database recently. Hi there! I’m new here and have declared coi, as we would like to have the CEO information of our organization updated on Wikipedia. No conflict of interest is involved.

Would you be able to help edit and update the CEO information please? Please let me know if you need anything else.

Many thanks! --Matchaccino (talk) 17:25, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Trustpilot article

Hi there @Encoded, hope all is going well! I see you have an interest in dealing with COI requests and was wondering whether you would like to have a look at my suggested changes to the Trustpilot article upon returning from your break? Caterpilaris (talk) 10:28, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Caterpilaris, sure thing! Not sure I'll get through it all tonight as it's quite late atm, but will try! If not will continue probably Friday as I'll probably not able to come on tomorrow. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:24, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Thank you @Encoded and really massively appreciated! If I can help at all with any of the other outstanding requests let me know, and have a great day. Caterpilaris (talk) 10:51, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
@Encoded, you are fantastic! I really appreciate you taking time from your break to answer all my requests. There are just a couple of points which I have responded to under the relevant requests on the talk page. Will defer to your judgement as you are far more experienced than me in this.
For COI Edit Request 5 as well, I took the liberty of moving the "Reporting reviews" subsection to the "Product and activities" section as I think this was missed rather than declined - is that okay?
Thank you as well for the archiving on the talk page. Looks so much tidier! Caterpilaris (talk) 16:53, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

How to close an edit request, or can I?

I recently made an edit to a Wikipedia article that was requested by someone with a COI (link). You were able to close it with a nice looking green check mark, thank you! Is that a thing that I could, in the future, do myself, or do you have special privs that let you do that? I'll look it up myself as well but I figured I'd ask here too. Have a happy new year. Jessamyn (my talk page) 22:45, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Jessamyn, thanks for helping out with that edit request! You can certainly close out requests yourself no special privs are required! Easiest way to do it is by using the edit request tool and COI request tool (I'd recommend getting both) as these have a super easy GUI that does it all for you. Alternatively, in source editor set {{Edit COI}} to have {{Edit COI|answered=yes}} and use {{done}} (that's the nice green tick) or {{partly done}} or {{not done}} in a reply, though I find the tool much easier as it has many more options and does the fancy formatting for you so you don't have to remember the codes!
If you're interested in handling more requests like that one there's a huge list of around 200 pending over at User:AnomieBOT/COIREQTable, no pressure though! You're also welcome to join WP:WikiProject Edit requests.
Have a happy new year too! Encoded  Talk 💬 22:55, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Enquiry

Good evening Enconded, I am new on my Wikipedia adventure and I am just wondering what inspired you to be an active contributor to Wikipedia as well as any tips and tricks you may have for me, as in due time I am aiming to publish a few articles. Thank you! Kamakziey (talk) 13:53, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

Hey @Kamakziey, welcome to Wikipedia! Glad to hear you're hoping to get some articles out there, good luck! If you have any more questions about that now or in the future please feel free to send me a message!
I started writing on Wikipedia whilst studying at university, I found myself having an incredibly stressful year and I find writing quite relaxing. I ended up on here looking something up for an assignment and figured I'd give it a shot and I'm still here 3 years later, still popping in after work to unwind! Probably not everyone's idea of a relaxing task but I find it quite nice, plus it's nice knowing that I'm contributing to one of the best informational resources in the world one small edit at a time.
Hope that answers your question, did you have any particular inspiration for joining as well? Best of luck with your editing and if you have any questions I'm here to help! Encoded  Talk 💬 16:19, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Rdog2010 (01:43, 28 January 2026)

Hello Encoded, I am inexperienced at 'real' editing. I have only made minor factual edits and done some copy/modify/paste edits to lists. I finally got a username for a bigger task.

Currently I am working to expand the 'Rebecca Kilgore' article subsequent to her death. Her obituaries in the New York TImes and other significant new sources supply the additional information. I need to learn to footnote. I assume the Visual Editor is the best way for me to tackle that skill. Is there a useful tutorial targeted at footnoting? Do I just hack away in my sandbox? Can I access paywalled sites like the NYT for footnoting purposes?

Thanks in advance! --Rdog2010 (talk) 01:43, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Hi @Rdog2010, happy to hear you're branching out into bigger tasks - good luck! There's a fantastic tutorial here: Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/Adding references that can help you out there. Feel free to try it out in your sandbox, I find that the best way to try out new tools personally. You may be able to access some paywalled sites using The Wikipedia Library however it has a criteria to access it (500+ edits, 6+ months editing, 10+ edits in the last 30 days, No active blocks). I know some users in the past have used archive websites such as archive.today or archive.org to view some archives of paywalled articles as well, not sure how well that works myself. Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you have any further questions! Encoded  Talk 💬 21:50, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Hey @Inkian Jason, apologies for taking ages to get back to you. I'm currently really busy off-wiki so don't think I'll be around enough to be very constructive. I agree with Graywall's comments and have reopened the request so that other editors might see and come help! Happy to be re-pinged if there's a draft of the proposed section to review. Question from Nameless7357 (23:44, 7 February 2026)

Hello Encoded. You were recently assigned to be my mentor for editing, so I wanted to ask a question about mergers. I recently found two pages, Lary 7 and [[Lary Seven] are redundant forks, but the former contains all of the information in the latter and more, as well as being more recent. How should I approach this, or any similar situations in the future? --Nameless7357 (talk) 23:44, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Hey @Nameless7357, I've gone ahead and merged the pages for you. You can do a "bold merge" (basically "just do it", this is what I did) in cases like this where it's clear a merge is required and there would be no realistic opposition to it. But if there might be some discussion needed you can open a merge discussion before merging. Instructions for both types of merges is on that page. The main thing is to include an edit summary saying you've merged it and tagging the talk pages, this carries over attributions required by our license. Hope this helps! Thanks! This helps a ton. Nameless7357 (talk) 20:55, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Hellohello5000 (15:23, 12 February 2026)

Hi! I just wanted some advice on copywriting. I was suggested the following article to copywrite due to a non-encyclopedic tone and other issues, but I read through the entire article and did not find any mistakes. https://w.wiki/HpvL Thank you for your time. --Hellohello5000 (talk) 15:23, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Hey @Hellohello5000, I think it's more based on how the article "feels". Strictly speaking it's fine, but it's not quite in Wikipedia's style in some places.
Take this paragraph for example:
If an employee's performance is unsatisfactory, the employer may set out a performance improvement plan (PIP) to help the employee improve. This may be because the employee is failing to meet the goals for their role or due to other problems such as poor behavior or interpersonal skills. A PIP is typically a written document outlining clear expectations for the employee, explaining how the employee is failing to meet them, laying out what improvements are expected, explaining whether and how managers will support the employee in improving, and indicating what the consequences will be if the employee fails to improve. These requirements are typically specific and measurable and consequences for failing to meet them might include a transfer, demotion, or termination.
It's quite long and may be difficult to read since some text feels redundant here, such as such as poor behavior or interpersonal skills or the bit saying that PIP is a written document which might be unnecessary. It also feels somewhat like it's taken from the news or a website promoting PIPs, rather than a wiki. There's no factual mistakes and it won't get removed, but re-wording it to be more concise might help. It also feels like the "Organizational Development" section overall could probably be explained in the same way but much shorter and without the sub-sections.
For example:
If an employee's performance is unsatisfactory, the employer may set out a performance improvement plan (PIP) to help the employee improve. >>> A performance improvement plan (PIP) is used to help employees improve when underperforming.
Might be a good change, it says the same thing just in a more factual-feeling way. Of course each editor sees an article and this in a different way, since it's a subjective tag, and that's just my opinion - you might disagree which is totally ok, and why we build consensus!
If you feel like you have a better way to say it I'd recommend being bold and giving it a shot, if you think the tags are unnecessary and it's ok as-is you can open a discussion on the talk page and if nobody objects (try to ping a few previous editors if you can first), you can remove them!
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 21:13, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from EthanM2014 (20:03, 12 February 2026)

Hello, I was wondering when do I edit is it just when I know information? --EthanM2014 (talk) 20:03, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Hey @EthanM2014, pretty much! Or when you can find the information too by researching! Make sure to back up edits with reliable sources though too! You can also edit to fix typos and formatting, or just to make small improvements in the way a page looks. If you have any other questions I'm happy to help! Question from B.A Hossains (10:37, 14 February 2026)

About Arakan Rohingya Army. Some groups state that they work to represent and protect the interests of the Rohingya community in Rakhine State, Myanmar. They say their objectives include promoting the rights, safety, and dignity of the Rohingya people, as well as advocating for citizenship, equality, and access to basic services. The activities and role of such groups remain subjects of political debate and differing international perspectives. Reliable sources are required to verify specific claims about their actions and impact.Below is about Arakan Rohingya Army ARA. History of ARA . The Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) is described as a Rohingya armed group reportedly active in Rakhine (Arakan) State, Myanmar. It states that its objectives include protecting the Rohingya community and advocating for citizenship, human rights, dignity, and equal treatment. The group links its formation to long-standing grievances related to the legal and political status of the Rohingya, particularly following the 1982 Myanmar Citizenship Law, which established a tiered citizenship system based on recognized “national races” and ancestry. Critics argue that the law contributed to the statelessness of many Rohingya. The Rohingya crisis intensified after episodes of violence in 2012 and major military operations in 2016 and 2017, which led to large-scale displacement of Rohingya civilians to neighboring Bangladesh. ARA presents itself as seeking justice and safe return for displaced Rohingya. However, information about the group’s structure, activities, and leadership remains limited and contested. As with many armed actors in Myanmar’s complex conflict environment, assessments of ARA vary, and independent verification of specific claims requires reliable secondary sources. Please take source from here about ARA Below the link. https://www.facebook.com/share/18FwEhPLyZ https://www.facebook.com/share/1DP7QhWqd7/ --B.A Hossains (talk) 10:37, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi @B.A Hossains, if you'd like to create an article I'd recommend visiting Articles for Creation. I'd be happy to help you out, but unfortunately Facebook is not considered a reliable source, if you're able to find any others (maybe news articles, reliable websites, etc.) that'd be great! Question from MetalMan666 4ever (12:48, 15 February 2026)

Subject: Newcomer guidance on Draft:Loaded Guns / COI Disclosure

Hello Encoded! I’m a new user and I’ve just submitted my first draft, Draft:Loaded Guns.
I want to be 100% transparent: I have a Conflict of Interest (COI) as I am involved with the band's management and their label, Cyber Tank Records. I am not an outside PR firm, but I do have a personal stake in the band’s legacy.
Because of this, I’ve worked hard to keep the tone strictly neutral and based entirely on independent, high-tier sources like Century Media, Blabbermouth, and the Miami New Times.
Could you take a look to ensure my COI hasn't clouded the encyclopedic tone? I want to make sure this meets Wikipedia's standards for neutral point of view. Thank you! --MetalMan666 4ever (talk) 12:48, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
Hi @MetalMan666 4ever, thank you for your message and for disclosing your COI! The tone of the article is neutral and does not feel clouded at all, I believe it meets NPOV standards very well and have no concerns there. I have accepted the draft and published it as Loaded Guns (band) (unfortunately the non-(band) page was already taken) with a "Start" rating. The only suggestion I have is that a few extra references will help bring that up, and I imagine more news will appear and can be added as they make their return which will help there! Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 21:24, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
I've also completed the COI declaration on the talk page on your behalf, since it was copied across from the draft comment you left. Thanks! :) Encoded  Talk 💬 21:27, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from DNACUK (21:27, 18 February 2026)

Can a YouTube video on a topic ever be used as a proper citation --DNACUK (talk) 21:27, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi @DNACUK, it depends on who published the video. This is from our Perennial sources list:
Most videos on YouTube are anonymous, self-published, and unverifiable, and should not be used as a reference. Content uploaded from a verified official account, such as that of a news organization, may be treated as originating from the uploader and therefore inheriting their level of reliability. However, many YouTube videos from unofficial accounts are copyright violations and should not be linked from Wikipedia, according to WP:COPYLINK. See also WP:YOUTUBE and WP:VIDEOLINK. For illustrative, non-referential use, see c:Commons:YouTube files and Wikipedia:Image use policy.
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 21:31, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
