Redirects
I am sorry but your redirects about Machilidae are extremely annoying TrueMoriarty Talk | Contribs 15:12, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, I know. When I was a kid I made a huge number of circular redirects on taxa pages and we're still cleaning them up years and years later. Still feel really bad about it all. Galactikapedia (talk) 15:54, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Do not feel bad about it. A lot of weird things are done by us as children. Forgive me for the misunderstanding and may your life be prosperous.
- TrueMoriarty Talk | Contribs 17:43, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- The easiest way to fix many of these, in terms of Wikipedia processes, is for you (Galacktikapedia) to request deletion under speedy deletion criterion G7. Just add {{Db-g7}} to the redirects you created that haven't been edited by anybody else (you can find them with this search). Plantdrew (talk) 17:59, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh wow. No one told me about this criterion before. Thanks so much! Galactikapedia (talk) 19:03, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for being willing to work on this. As the creator of the redirects, it is much easier for you to get them deleted via G7 than it is for any other editor to get them deleted. G7 deletion just takes a single edit by you to each redirect.
- Any other editor trying to get them deleted needs to make at least 3 edits per redirect (or 1 edit directly to each redirect and two other edits that get increasingly complicated as more redirects are bundled together in a deletion nomination).
- You did create a lot of redirects, and editing them all again to add G7 will be no small task, but any effort you can put in to getting them deleted would be welcome. Plantdrew (talk) 03:21, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Could I ask what is the problem with these redirects? I've only checked one or two, but they were mentioned in the target page and seem to work nicely as a species redirect. I can understand if there is some different problem with the higher-order taxons, but the species ones seem fine to me. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:51, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- @MPGuy2824 they most certainly are not all right. Species deserve to be articles on their own right (WP:NSPECIES). Blue linking them with redirects discourages users to make species articles. TrueMoriarty Talk | Contribs 07:57, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- Species are notable, I agree. But until someone is ready to make an article for a species, a redirect better than nothing IMO. We do have the {{R taxon with possibilities}} template which says "A redirect that employs this template will usually be a generally accepted species name that targets an article about a genus". -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:06, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

- I think the consensus is the creation was not a good idea — however G7 tagging hundreds at once is also not a good idea. That dumped a huge load on admins as they all needed manual processing and swamped out other requests. Such cleanup is best done in smaller batches over time and also an edit summary explaining the rational is always helpful. I have processed all the current ones remaining and hopefully did not miss any valid ones. MPGuy2824 had already declined Abjapyx lepesmei correctly IMO as it is the sole species, so if described would be at Abjapyx so unlike the rest this is a good redirect.
