Hello, HistoryofIran
I am messaging you regarding about the Kambojas wikipedia article, you have it listed as Iranic but why not Nuristani? As far as I am concerned Kambojas should be listed as Indo-Iranian rather than Iranian. The group cannot be placed properly within the Indo-Iranian family and should remain unclassified. The language(s) that may have been spoken may have been Iranic, Nuristani or a mix of two. Have you read up on Richard Strands theory? It is very interesting. Thanks IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 20:22, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hello IndianHistorianMan647582. Sorry, but the consensus in WP:RS contradicts you. HistoryofIran (talk) 20:37, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- I have read it. Are you saying that Richard Strands is unreliable? His theory holds a lot of weight and does make sense. J -> Z. Kamboj -> Kamboz. Mb -> M. Kamboz -> Kamoz (Nuristani). You can't classify a single language with one word. It seems the Kambojas Wikipedia page is relying on one sided arguments and not the other side. IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 20:55, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you have not. Because the (fully sourced) article says that it is agreed that they are at least considered Iranian, and discusses on what type of Iranian language they could have spoken, an early stage of Ormuri being one of the theories. Strands is also already cited down below where he mentions theory on the Nuristanis being descended from them. Being descended from someone doesn't necessarily mean you're part of the same ethnic group. My last comment on this. HistoryofIran (talk) 00:39, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi HistoryofIran. You provide a fair argument and yes you are correct. But I theorize that Kambojan may have been multiple languages instead of one. The similar situation would be Yugurs (Mongolic and Turkic at the same time). It is possible that Kambojan could be Nuristani and Iranic at the same time. Also why hasn't several Iranic language Wikipedia's updated about the Kambojan language if it is truly Iranic. Also I have found more information about Kambojas including several inscriptions found in India which are not mentioned. The Sugh seal, Chilas inscription, Vishnupalita inscription. Also Kambojans were Buddhist especially Komedes where the Indo-Scythian Maues and Aiyasi Kambojika come from. I wish to update the Kambojas Wikipedia page even more. Thanks IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 02:07, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- In Wikipedia we follow what WP:RS says, not our own opinion (see WP:OR and WP:SYNTH). The Kambojas article is in a good state right now and has been put under protection due to edits undoing that.
Also why hasn't several Iranic language Wikipedia's updated about the Kambojan language if it is truly Iranic.
- That's because no one has bothered to do it, including me. Maybe later. HistoryofIran (talk) 02:26, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- It's not my opinion. S. Konow and among other historians believe that the founders of the Indo-Scythians were Scythianized Kambojans from Parama Kambojas/Kumedh/Komedes. I mean that is literally mentioned in the Indo-Scythian article. You constantly gatekeeping the article for no apparent reason. I mean are you called Dani (Pakistani Historian) false? He found the Chilas Inscription near Gilgit. IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 02:44, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- You just said "But I theorize that Kambojan may have been multiple languages instead of one." and so on. And I recall finding edits by you to have severe WP:RS issues back in summer, which you never addressed. As for your gatekeeping accusation, please read WP:ASPERSIONS.
- Here's what WP:SYNTH says; "Do not combine material from multiple sources to state or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources. Similarly, do not combine different parts of one source to state or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by the source. If one reliable source says A and another reliable source says B, do not join A and B together to imply a conclusion C not mentioned by either of the sources."
- And please read WP:SCHOLARSHIP, WP:AGEMATTERS and WP:UNDUE as well. HistoryofIran (talk) 02:49, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- I understand that but the page is now outdated. There are heaps of information missing like the Kamuia lion inscription, Sugh seal, Vishnupalita inscription, Sri Lanka -Kaboja inscription in Ruhana. The Chilas Kamboja inscription discovered in the 1990s by Hasan Dani I believe. Why aren't we adding this? Nor is there Buddhist sources describing Kambojas as a land of which there is only two classes - nobles and slaves. Why aren't we adding this? So much is missing. Thanks IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 01:06, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- Listening random things is not really helpful, it needs to be cited by WP:RS, and without any sort of WP:SYNTH too. I fail to see how the article is outdated. Please read the policies I listed, as well as WP:VER and WP:CITE. As long as you don't read those, we're both wasting our times. HistoryofIran (talk) 01:38, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- I'll read it. If I find any reference that does not violate the rules. I will add it to the Kamboja Wikipedia page. IndianHistorianMan647582 (talk) 01:42, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- You can't do that as the article is protected, as it has been the subject of many unconstructive edits. You can cite it here and I'll take a look. I would also recommend to accept the info in that article is the current state of the Kambojas in scholarship. HistoryofIran (talk) 01:48, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

- Hi HistoryOfIran,
- I just checked the Spanish Kambojas Wikipedia I believe and its information that is not found in the English Wikipedia. Below is a source that talks about an inscription found in Maharashtra that belongs to Vishnupalita Kamboja a minor ruler in the Raigad area. Thanks

Disputing the "Umariyya" claim
I understand your concern regarding SYNTH, but the current text in the article relies on a misinterpretation of primary sources by a modern author (Shihadeh) that contradicts the consensus of classical historians.
Here is the factual correction required, based on verifying the primary sources cited:
1. The "Umariyya" Misinterpretation: The article cites Ibn Unayn's poem mentioning "Dawha Fakhriyya Umariyya". Classical context dictates that "Fakhriyya" refers to his title (Fakhr al-Din) and "Umariyya" refers to his father (Diya al-Din **Umar**). Interpreting "Umariyya" as descent from Caliph Umar (Al-Adawi) is a linguistic error that contradicts established biography.
2. The "Adawi" vs "Taymi" Distinction: If Al-Razi were a descendant of Caliph Umar, his nisba would be Al-Adawi. However, all major biographical dictionaries (Ibn Khallikan, Al-Safadi, Al-Subki, Al-Dhahabi) explicitly list his full lineage as Al-Qurashi Al-Taymi (descendant of Abu Balt from the tribe of Banu Taym).
3. Silence of Sources: No classical source records a dispute about his lineage or claims he was "Adawi". The confusion is entirely modern.
Proposal: We should modify the text to state: "While some modern sources infer descent from Caliph Umar based on Ibn Unayn's poem, classical biographers identify his lineage as Al-Taymi (descendant of Abu Bakr) and his father's name as Umar, resolving the poetic reference."
This is our duty, correcting a factual error by cross-referencing standard biographical data. Lakhians11 (talk) 16:11, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Hey--I don't know how schooled you are in Ottoman history, but you probably know more than me. There's a date dispute--or, there is a disruptive editor who besides changing a date (I have no issue with that, with the content) keeps breaking the formatting, exchanging sfn templates with a mangled reference (just look at how note 1 is rendered with this edit. Perhaps you can help out with content or indeed the article as a whole, which already has conflicting styles? Or maybe you know someone who can? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:06, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
