Please add {{userspace essay}} to User:Isaacl/Address problems without creating new specialized rules so it can be categorized appropriately which improves discoverability. More people should read it. Thanks, Polygnotus (talk) 10:57, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, Isaacl, I wholeheartedly agree with Polygnotus. I have been here a very long time and only once remember a proposal to get rid of a rule. I think the problem is partly that Wikipedia seems to attract people who like to have things spelt out precisely for them. Phil Bridger (talk) 11:53, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- Looking at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Isaacl/ there are a bunch of essays that could use that template. Polygnotus (talk) 19:17, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
I appreciate the interest. My writings are basically aids for me to use in discussion, so I can avoid some level of repetition. I think there are already so many pages in the user essay category that adding more isn't going to do anyone any favours. There are far too many advice pages for everyone to read, which incidentally I cover in the essay you mentioned. isaacl (talk) 05:42, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Indeed, user essays are intended to save time in discussions. If you make em more discoverable others can also use em in discussions.
- Since there is already a ridiculous number in there adding one or two more doesn't affect anything. Polygnotus (talk) 13:00, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- That's kind of the point: since adding more won't affect anything, it won't be particularly useful. isaacl (talk) 18:07, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Now I don't agree with Polygnotus, if he really meant that it won't affect anything. How will you know that unless you try? Just do it with that one essay, if you still have doubts. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:13, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- As someone who's looked through the essays listed in Wikipedia:Essay directory and the "Essays on building, editing, and deleting content" section in Template:Wikipedia essays, I've found that enough and never felt like perusing the user essay category. Plus again for the specific essay in question, a key point from it is that users can't be expected to go through all the guidance pages. isaacl (talk) 19:28, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
