Where did you get his first middle name ("Avis") from?
I think this is incorrect - I think it should be "Aris".
Please email me at jim77742@gmail.com to discuss. I'm the keeper of the family tree. Jim77742 (talk) 11:38, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Jim, the middle name "Avis" comes from the cricket-related references on the page - both Cricinfo and CricketArchive (the latter is now behind a paywall). The government source for his OAM however uses "Aris", so I've updated the page citing this. Cheers. Jevansen (talk) 21:00, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Petr Kanderal

The article Petr Kanderal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Two additional publications Djan Khoe
Dear Jevansen, I recently found two publications that may be interesting for the article. One publications is about my Master Thesis work, published in the Proceedings of the IEEE, the top journal of IEEE. Another publication is about a world record with a silica optical fiber transmission, a result obtained in collaboration with Philips. They have been included in the NL article Khoe0005 (talk) 23:02, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Prof. Any article improvements are best suggested at Talk:Giok Djan Khoe. Jevansen (talk) 23:17, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
Major Thomas Henry Davies DSO, MC, RE
The above person was my great Uncle. Whilst his history as a Tasmanian politician can be retrieved by searching from newspaper articles in Trove, his interesting and amazing involvement in the Russian civil war is not widely known. I have detailed this in my biography which is free to read Major Tom and the secret ‘M’ device – Brian's historical adventure books If you have the time or inclination, it would be great if you could update the Wikipedia entry to read something like that for his good friend Major Harry Harcourt. Backlink
Hi Jevansen,
I hope you're well.
I’m reaching out on behalf of a digital marketing agency that currently manages Batch Mewing, a business owned by former swimmer Andrew Mewing. We’ve noticed that you've made significant edits to Andrew’s Wikipedia page, and we’re wondering if you would be able to add a backlink to the homepage of their website: www.batchmewing.com.au.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if this is something you'd be able to assist with. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,

Possibly Living People category
Hi Jevansen, I see you're adding the Possibly Living People category to a lot of pages. However, it should only be used for individuals 90+ when there has been no evidence of them being alive for 10+ years. It shouldn't be added to pages like Dorothea Phillips (actress), when the page is sourced with 2019 and 2021 interviews with her. Thanks Jkaharper (talk) 01:09, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. Understood ... though I think she has passed away. There was a social media post, listing her as recently deceased, which comes up as the first result of a "name" + "death" google search. I've just found a themoviedb.org entry for her with a DOD as well. None of these are citable of course. The latter is from a "community built" database and I can't even link to it here because we have it blacklisted. Jevansen (talk) 01:33, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
Frank Lloyd Australian Actor
I need help to upload an image of Frank Lloyd the Australia Actor who played Neville McPhee in Home and Away we cannot use commons because of copyright, but can be uploaded as a fair-us as actor has passed away in 1995, a replacement picture is not obtainable ~2026-94455-6 (talk) 01:10, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. You'll need to register for an account in order to upload a file. Go to Wikipedia:File upload wizard and click "Upload a non-free file". After uploading the file, you'll be asked for a description, eg "Actor Frank Lloyd". For step 3, select "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use" followed by "This is a historical portrait of a person no longer alive". When it asks for a fair use rationale, I'd just copy one used for a related figure - eg File:Timothy Conigrave.jpg (an actor who died in 1994). Jevansen (talk) 02:08, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
Qualitative Research / Documentary for Wikimedia
Hi Jevansen, I’m an independent researcher conducting qualitative research for Wikimedia about the motivations and work practices of top Wikipedia contributors. It would involve one interview (about an hour or so long) and we would be happy to provide compensation for your time. The research may be used by Wikimedia to design new tools for Wikipedians. We may also edit the same interviews into something more akin to a documentary. Let me know if you’re interested and I'll provide more details. Thanks! Removing pages from watchlist
Over the past 10 years I uploaded countless posters related to Hindi cinema without removing them from my watchlist (they all belong under Category:Film posters for Hindi-language films added by you). Now that I've minimized my contributions to Hindi cinema, I want them all removed. Is there no way possible? I found a megawatch option, but not a mega-unwatch. It is cluttering my watchlist. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:13, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. Do you have AWB? If you go to "Edit raw watchlist" and paste all pages into an AWB list, you can use "list comparer" to match against pages also in Category:Film posters for Hindi-language films . That will produce a list of pages unique to your watchlist which you can simply paste over those in the raw watchlist. Jevansen (talk) 20:14, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
QuickCategories
Hi. I had to remove several examples of Category:20th-century Austrian women scientists and Category:20th-century Canadian women scientists from pages you added to Category:20th-century Austrian women physicists and Category:20th-century Canadian women physicists per WP:SUPERCAT. So I'm stopping by to suggest looking at QuickCategories since it allows you to do the job more smoothly and quickly without having to remove supercats individually or letting some slip through the cracks; check this from Smasongarrison for instance. The template for removing categories is very straightforward; I often use LibreOffice Calc to implement it. ミラP@Miraclepine 18:48, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Miraclepine. It's not an issue with Cat-a-lot. This was done deliberately. I constantly get users reverting me when I remove more broad occupation categories that have been diffused. Eg a Canadian women scientist who is a physicist, but also works in one of more other scientific fields (for which we don't have a century category). So lately I've been a lot more selective in order to avoid such hassle. Eg in this instance, I removed the category from those I could identify as being only physicists. Jevansen (talk) 20:10, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- Well, then try working it out with them by explaining the SUPERCAT issue on their talk pages, namely how Special:Search addresses this issue with the deepcat:"[category]" function. If it doesn't work, consider reporting them to ANI for IDHT. Maybe a policy discussion on whether to change SUPERCAT might be a possibility, but for now we'll have to go with the norm for now. ミラP@Miraclepine 19:06, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
Adding Wikiprojects, please add Assessments
Greetings, Throughout February (and earlier) I've been chipping away at Category:Unassessed biography (musicians) articles and Category:Unassessed biography (sports and games) articles, making progress reducing those backlogs. Today, I see an increase for both categories. While it's nice and helpful to add talk page WikiProjects, imo, it's even nicer to do an assessment while "in there". (Rater tool) Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 16:57, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Joe. I understand it can be frustrating when the numbers jump like that. Like I mentioned last time you brought this up, I do have the rater tool and have utilised it depending on the task being undertaken. If I've identified a large grouping of bios needing to be added to a work group, it's much more practical to do an AWB run. They were already unassessed bio articles, they're just now in an additional grouping. Jevansen (talk) 20:37, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank for your answer. I just have to learn to be more patient with myself. Sometimes it seems like I'm the only person helping to clear those categories, and sure could use help working on those. Any idea of how to get more people helping? I know we are all volunteers here, so that may not be possible considering the many other Wikipedia activities available. JoeNMLC (talk) 21:05, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- I appreciate the effort Joe. For what it's worth, I've spent an hour this morning working through Category:Unassessed biography (sports and games) articles with the rater tool. You might be best off targeting specific projects for assistance, rather than a general call to arms. So for Bio/Musicians, the biggest backlog by far, you could make a plea for assistance at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians. Users will be more likely to help if it's a topic of interest to them and a project/work group should ideally be taking some responsibility for the maintenance of articles under their remit. Jevansen (talk) 00:32, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your efforts. For the Musicians WP, I asked for help on the Talk and updated WP page with Category counts, hoping for additional help. Thanks for your advice. Besides assessments, I also "dabble" with Unreferenced articles as an interesting change of pace. Cheers, JoeNMLC (talk) 15:10, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Priya (1978 film)
Mainly about a Tamil film, the partially reshot Kannada version was released in 1979 but does not have enough content to warrant a separate article Priya (1979 film). Should 1979-related categories be added to it? Kailash29792 (talk) 09:07, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

| A huge props to you Jevansen for helping me finally complete the diffusion of these film categories. I really did not wish to do it all by myself so thank you so much helping set up the category infrastructure and move these articles where they belong! Οἶδα (talk) 22:31, 4 March 2026 (UTC) |
- Thanks Οἶδα ... and well done to you as well. Category:English-language films by year in particular must have been extremely tedious. Those numbers are dizzying. Jevansen (talk) 22:46, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Women poet categories
When creating biography categories for the 20th or 21st century, it's usually more convenient to do the same for the other century, especially for content creators who want to use this same 20th/21st-century set when creating articles for people with a career spanning both centuries (there's a lot, after all). I had to create several "21st-century [nationality] women poets" cats since many of the "20th-century [nationality] women poets" ones you made didn't have one. ミラP@Miraclepine 22:11, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. Yes, I could, depending on the number of applicable articles. Where does that end though? If we're creating 21st-century categories, due to the existence of 20th-century cats, should we also not be creating the other adjacent category of 19th-century [nationality & occupation]? .Then, having a 19th-century category would necessitate creating an 18th-century category etc, using the same principle. Jevansen (talk) 23:24, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't saying it would be mandatory for all centuries (especially given that women biographies become less frequent during or before the 19th-century), just that the 20th and 21st centuries alone should be prioritized given the relative abundance of biographies in both eras. ミラP@Miraclepine 02:19, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
Article assessment
Articles consisting of four sentences are stub-class, not start-class. They also have stub tags, and should be assessed as such. Thanks, Geschichte (talk) 05:12, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
