Bulgarian language codified in 19th century

All modern languages were codified at some point. Bulgarian was standardized in the 19th century. Does that mean it didn’t exist before? Of course not. Same logic applies to Macedonian. Stop it you're embarrassing. Jovan.orthodoxy (talk) 16:53, 30 March 2026 (UTC)

You’re pushing this beyond normal editing into biased changes. These edits appear to be driven by a nationalistic bias. If you don’t stop, I will report this to Wikipedia’s admin team with full diffs of your edits. Jovan.orthodoxy (talk) 17:02, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
My idea is simple. You cannot just, remove or to put to the bottom the term "Bulgarian", regardless of what you are writing about, and replacing it with Slavic or Macedonian, even though this does not always make sense or has any logic.Jingiby (talk) 03:49, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
No one is saying the term “Bulgarian” should just be removed everywhere and replaced. The point is that in many historical contexts, especially in the medieval and early modern periods, terms like “Bulgarian,” “Slavic,” and “Macedonian” are interpreted differently by different historians. It’s not always as straightforward as applying a modern national label retroactively.
Scholars like John Van Antwerp Fine Jr. emphasize that identities in the region were often fluid, religious, or regional, rather than strictly national in the modern sense. So insisting on consistently using “Bulgarian” in every case can be just as misleading as removing it entirely.
The goal here isn’t replacement, it’s accuracy and context. In some cases “Bulgarian” is appropriate and well-sourced — in others, broader terms like “Slavic” or more neutral wording may better reflect the historical reality and the range of scholarly views.
Wikipedia shouldn’t privilege one national historiography over others. It should reflect the dispute where it exists, not resolve it by defaulting to one side. Jovan.orthodoxy (talk) 05:43, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
