Rewrite of the Van Hogendorp article
I found your cri de coeur from 2006 about the fact that your lack of Dutch prevented you from writing the article Dirk van Hogendorp (1761–1822) like you wanted to, on its Talk-page. Nil desperandum. I'll be happy to lend a hand, also because I need the article as background information for Commissioners-General of the Dutch East Indies that needs more about the role Hogendorp played in the background (maily through his friend Muntinghe, but also throught his brother, who of course could not push him too openly, but shared his ideas). It 'll take a bit of time, though, so please bear with me, and let me finish, before you try your own hand again. Ereunetes (talk) 20:10, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry for the late reply. My account was tied to my university email and over COVID it merged with another institution - an art school, in fact - which cut off access to my email and also, any recovery. By sheer luck I had found that my mother had kept my old hard drives from 2006-2009 and was able to extract out the randomly generated password, soemthing that I haven't been able to do since 2017.
- Sadly I had little opportunity to learn Dutch in the interim as the global recession obliterated the funding I had been attempting to secure to advance a career in academia. Somewhat unexpectedly I now can comfortably fund my own research thanks to the utterly insane inflow of money into cryptocurrencies, a technology I've been involved in for the better part of ten years. But I'm no longer 25 but approaching my late 30s and I doubt I will ever gain any proficiency in Dutch that is to a degree that would allow me to review the sources and understand its context without error. You have my blessing to add to and edit and expand upon everything and anything I've written. Life throws curveballs, some are easy to hit and some will make you look like a fool, and in the end much of it is out of my control. I'm very much glad that someone even cares about such a relatively obscure topic from the view of the English speaking world. If you need any English-language resources please give me a shout as I have access to much of the academic journals, libraries, and research now that I'm able to afford such access. And I very much appreciate any work you are able to add. Thank you. Karajanis (talk) 14:54, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
